"Let’s be honest for once this trophy should have been a cakewalk for Villa but they failed even to get to the final. There is not one excuse for them as they stumble, not quite as badly as Spurs, to the final CL place."

We hardly ever win any cups so winning one is better than not. We loved it. We are not Man City or Spurs. We are West Ham and we celebrate our wins.

"....and there's the thing Mercenary our run in that cup last year was a breeze, even compared to Villa's this season.......plus they are really wanting that PL league position over a cup win in a cup they are not looking to get into Europe with."

"Most seasons I'd agree, especially as we always seem to draw at least 2 of the elite! Since 2010 the mighty Birmingham and Swansea have both won it, with Southampton, Sunderland, Cardiff and Bradford City also making the final."

"Mercenary, our domestic cups in order to win them to get into Europe will likely need us to beat 2 teams of CL quality towards the end. Our Euro cup win would have been a travesty if we didn't win it especially as it was our last chance at European qualification. We need to see this difference to keep things in perspective."

"I agree up to a point COYI but this year the traditional English elite have been well off the pace. Atalanta tore Liverpool a new one. Olympiacos, supposedly rubbish, did Villa home and away. The same Villa who are the 4th best team in the PL. Man Utd = basket case. Chelsea/Spurs, consistently inconsistent. We've never won it though, so I'd definitely see it as a massive acheivement for us. Would it be better than sitting behind the goal as Bowen slotted in that winner though?"

"Me neither, Fraser! We regularly get knocked out of domestic cup competitions by so called lesser teams, yet we're supposed to coast to win a competition that 176 teams from across the whole of Europe participated in. We earned well over £13m from it (excluding EL money from this season!), yet the Carabao Cup is supposedly superior (£100,000 prize money for winning it)."

"Spurs didn't even try and win it they literally threw it so not sure why they're mentioned. Villa not beating Olympiacos is like us not beating Bristol City, it doesn't then make it hard for others to beat them We won a cup I loved every fucking second of it, I still watch the goals all the time but it doesn't change the fact that we faced weak opponents, I can realise that without it spoiling the win for me. Why do others get so offended by it, I just don't get it."

"Ok, you can turn this around...... Spurs & Villa had/have already qualified for better European competitions.....and Leicester got relegated. West Ham had to win it to scrape into Europe. Do you really not see how West Ham and their cup win is viewed? It's sort of why we hate cսnt clubs like Tottenham........."

"Villa, into the CL in August and out by December. I wonder who will be representing the EPL in the much derided* competition next season? *Oddly most of the derision comes from WHU fans."

"Great night for the Bubbles, got a few mates in Greece who are big fans and they haven't had a sniff of a European trophy in their lifetimes, bit of a parallel experience I guess, hope they win it."

"Villa clearly wanted to win the trophy but it looked like a couple of matches too far. The missed penalty in the first leg cost them dearly. However, they’re likely to have the outstanding consolation prize of a Champions League place, so I’m sure it won’t take them too long to get over it. This is following the mess they were in after Gerrard went. Moyes does deserve credit for winning the trophy, and he clearly knows how to manage a European campaign. But he also deserves criticism for his faults too. We could and should have been in the same position as Villa regarding the Champions League. Moyes played a part in getting us to that position, but was also the biggest reason for us failing to secure it."

There have been 4 versions of the Europa Conference League .... 1 Premier league team won it and the other 3 didnt win it. Simples Understand its a meaningless cup as its SOOOOO easy to win For Villa to be beaten home and away and by 4 clear goals by Olympiacos is utterly embarrassing however you want to dress it up At least they did better than Tottenham (Couldnt get out of the group stages) Hotspur

"I’d say it obvious that you’re making a fucking idiot of yourself again. Villa have way more quality than we do, that’s why they will finish in the top 4. We played well, were managed well and got a bit of luck along the way. You’re absolutely clueless when it comes to football."

"When you look at it, Villa are well-managed but lack the quality players we have so they’re out. We won it thanks to the players who showed up despite the mediocre manager, and I’d say that’s pretty obvious."
