"The Sefton Park episode of Boys from the Blackstuff, when he’s chased into the lake and tries to end it all and then gets rescued by the police….I’d struggle to think of a better acting performance in anything, ever. He had one of those faces, where an expression could relay years of what he’d experienced."

percyd Fox was another fine series and also featured another excellent actor in Derek O Connor as the older club owning brother.. Peter Vaughan and Winston so natural just doing what they do and some great fight scenes. I watched some episodes again during lockdown as well as Prospects.

I always remember him as part of the incredible cast for The Bounty (Hopkins/Gibson et al). Always worth a watch.

"Cracking actor, you knew if Bernard was in it, it'd be worth a watch. Yosser, of course. But also Vin in FOX (along with young Ray W, Larry Lamb, Peter Vaughn)"

"I loved Boys from the Blackstuff, billiant series and Yosser Hughes was played so well by Bernard Hill, nothing on tv these days is of that quality. Brilliant black humour when he was in the confessional: Yosser: Help me father I'm desperate Priest: call me Dan Yosser: I'm desperate Dan, realises what he's just said and headbuts the woodwork"
