One dead as London-Singapore flight hit by turbulence
"At least one person has died and dozens of others have been injured after a flight from London to Singapore encountered severe turbulence. A Singapore Airlines flight was forced to divert to Bangkok after a passenger was killed and 30 people were hurt, local media reported. “We can confirm that there are injuries and one fatality on board the Boeing 777-300ER. There were a total of 211 passengers and 18 crew on board,” a spokesperson for the airline said."

I fully expect someone to pin the blame for the extra-active Aurora this year on climate change; nothing to do with the sun farting out millions and millions of extra charged particles (and extra heat as it heads towards a peak in one of it's longer cycles) but 100% down to extra carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

"I see a few are piping up and blaming climate change for this mishap! Is there anything that climate change isn’t responsible for? Too hot, too cold, flooding, draught, high wind, no wind, FFS………. RIP to the fella that died, heart attack by all accounts, nothing to do with climate change as far as i know?"

"I've had a couple of flights between Europe & SE Asia that have hit clear air turbulence, but nothing like on this scale. The worst was when my bottle of wine & ""glass"" left the table but the table quickly claimed them back before I could react. More like a ride on the Kursaal on Southend Pier, really, but a 6,000 feet in a few minutes? Fuck that! How high is Ben Nevis?"

Here's real pics/footage: https://x.com/stillgray/status/1792909859333001526 73 year old Brit that died of a heart attack. Nothing really to see here. Just a bit of turbulence.

"violator 5:13 Tue May 21 That's an old clip from a Russian flight that experienced turbulence, I think. It's not footage from this one."

"I find the trend to putting more and more heavy luggage in lockers above people's heads to be quite worrying. No idea if this was a factor in this fatality, but sooner or later surely somebody will be badly hurt or killed by heavy falling overhead locker contents."

"We don't know the circumstance of the death but to have so many injuries it must have been fucking intense.I've had some bad turbulence and it scares the shit out of me. Still, would never stop me flying as this shit is so rare."
Re: One dead as London-Singapore flight hit by turbulence
I generally feel safer in a plane than a car nowadays
Re: One dead as London-Singapore flight hit by turbulence
Be interesting to hear the plane's location at the time: my money's on Bay of Bengal.

"No doubt the BBC are phoning that tiresome twat David Learmount for his considered comment, as they do every time something goes wrong with an aeroplane."
Re: One dead as London-Singapore flight hit by turbulence
"Turbulence is horrible, a mate of mine was on a Qantas (I think it was them) flight last year from Singapore and had to turn back as a flying trolley broke a flight attendant's leg. So after talking to him about it can easily see how a fatality could happen"
Re: One dead as London-Singapore flight hit by turbulence
"Still does scare me, even if I'm loathe to admit it."
