Anxiety/depression

Post Tomshardware »

"Been through bad time lately with suffering with this. Dark thoughts as well. I know some posters on here suffer with this. Anyone come through the other side of this shit?

"A number of posters have been yellow carded and told to stay off this thread unless they have anything constructive to add. This is a thread that has been very useful to so many, for any other posters with scores to settle, argue on another thread. This thread is sacrosant.Thank you"

Dandy Lyon 1:54 Wed Jan 15 You wanted to post a comment but changed your mind. Hope you're OK but do you know the source of your name? Dent de lion is French for 'Tooth of lion.' If you look at the serrated outline of a dandelion leaf its similar to the jagged tooth shape of lions to rip meat.even though the French have never called it 'dent de lion'. They call it 'pissenlie' or 'wet the bed'.... go figure!

"Sold0, social media IN MY OPINION is the biggest cause of what people THINK depression is, anxiety IMO is just a cause of unresolved issues and worrying about future events. People are competitive, compare themselves against others and often crave what others appear to have, and get down because they do not have a baby or a nice car or whatever. In reality this isn't actual depression, but more people are becoming more and more depressed about themselves because they constantly compare all the time and now openly talking about it, of course all my opinion."

What I’m getting at Bolty is I have no doubt it has been there since the dawn of time… what I can’t get my head around is your statement saying it’s Modern day living that’s making it more `known about’… I mean having rations of whale meat and powdered egg and having to use the Evening Standard to wipe my arse would tip me over the edge for sure… thank god Kandoo’s has kept me sane…

"Japan has one of the lowest officially recognised rates of depression in the world. But it has a higher suicide rate than any rich nation except Belgium. Bit odd. Also the fact that it's mainly a western problem and the third world just got on with ot is a fallacy. Places like Afghanistan, African nations, and middle East all top the charts for depression. Could be a chemical thing. We've been putting shit in our air, food, and water for a few decades now."

Money is the source of our current existence. even beggars want it. Most people have an amount of money they are happy to live on. Some don’t have much choice. Some are extremely keen on growing their excess of money and the things it buys. Some live in places where not much is required and others live 5 star life styles and need a load of it. None of those things will automatically make anyone anxious or depressed but stress is likely in some scenarios more than others.

"I’m trying to get my head why people think that depression/stress/anxiety is rife due to Modern day living?? You know with all our benefits and in the whole vastly more comfortable living conditions than any of our Grandparents ever had…small pox, Spanish flu, TB was rife… infant mortality was as common as a number 27 bus… I asked my Nan about living through the Blitz and the how her and others coped… they coped as they had no choice… today people have a fucking meltdown if the internet server goes down for 5 minutes rather than a 500lb’er land in your back garden… we’ve become like the human race in that film Wall-E. https://jonnegroni.com/2015/04/15/the-humans-of-wall-e-were-probably-better-off-without-him/comment-page-1/"

"Nurse Ratched 4:03 Wed Jan 15 Nurse, this is unfortunately the harshness of Anxiety and Depression. No doubt I'll get cunted off for talking about myself but I always felt I had ""no right"" to be depressed because I had a good life, just got married, good job, earnt good money and healthy but it just happened. It works in odd ways, those who do ""have the right"" to be depressed or anxious are often not, and vice versa."

"To you it might not seem a big deal, with all the media coverage etc but it does have an impact on people who are less capable of dealing with negativity. Just because you personally don't ""get"" why it could make a difference to someone doesn't mean it's not going to effect others. Depression is a dark, dark place MPI son, usually those who care the most suffer with it, but have the great ability to put on a brave face when inside they want to kill themselves, constantly have negative thoughts and constantly have that feeling of dread. I read that over half of adults with mental health issues would have shown signs under the age of 14, which rings true with me as I constantly used to cry and get worked up at the fear of dying to the point I wouldn't leave me house."

We have a lot more time to consider ourselves in respect to other times and places. Can be a very good thing but it might not also be what we as humans were designed for. Just a thought.

"There are places around the world (there's one in Nigeria) where large groups of people live beside and work on massive rubbish tips. Adults and children, scrambling over stinking piles of human garbage and waste products, trying to find food plus other items they can sell. People breeding and raising families into that way of life. That's got to be rough."

"What’s the worst life can be? Being water boarded by some CIA goons while having your feet electrocuted? Starving slowly to death while knowing some people are grossly obese? Living in a damp, bug and vermin infested hut in amongst millions of others who are all suffering the same shit? Looks like the issues that give rise to anxiety and depression are probably not external?"

"Tend to agree with Griffles. The increased media may provide more layers of negativity but this can be offset by the comfortable lifestyle, availability of the basics to more people and the fact that there are many examples of people who, seemingly have it all, but have the black dog on their back and conversely people who live with difficult lives yet are mentally serene and don't seem to notice how shitty their lot is. Anxiety is worrying about how things are, how things are going to turn out and being convinced you have no control over any of it. Depression is... Well that's just it I don't know, never suffered with it have only read about it."

Not at all. I was replying to Bolts comment about the 1920s. The 2020s should be fun.
