Anxiety/depression
"Been through bad time lately with suffering with this. Dark thoughts as well. I know some posters on here suffer with this. Anyone come through the other side of this shit?
"A number of posters have been yellow carded and told to stay off this thread unless they have anything constructive to add. This is a thread that has been very useful to so many, for any other posters with scores to settle, argue on another thread. This thread is sacrosant.Thank you"

Re: Anxiety/depression
The last two/three months have been the only time in my life I've had proper 'stress'/anxiety. Purely because of my job. Decided to leave the job as a result and do something else. Already feel the fog lifting. I know sometimes it's not that easy but remember that we can all make positive decisions to change our environment even if it's not as radical as leaving your job.

Re: Anxiety/depression
Can I ask if anyone is having a better time of it in the last eight months? Sorry not to trawl through all the recent posts but if anyone has felt improved due to covid restrictions I would love to hear about it.

"Stevethehammer 10:38 I can only reiterate what the others have said on here. Sage advice indeed. (Good old WHO!) You’re already getting it off your chest which is a good thing and getting out in the fresh air in the natural light, even for a short time, will be of huge benefit (the days are getting longer now as well). Tryn vary things (times/small tasks/bit of exercise, if possible). As Exeter says, something will come along out the blue that will completely get you back to where you belong/was, without you even realising. All the advice on here is genuine positivity (big word!) and straight from the horse’s mouth. All the best. Keep well."

Re: Anxiety/depression
"I was a right state in my early 20s, the result of a lot of over indulgence, burning both ends of the candle relentlessly, not eating properly etcetc Some of my friends the same/worse Fot anyone sufferering, all the very best. There are ALWAYS ways out, no matter how bad things seem, you can turn the corner and then those things will be memories and just how they seemed at the time. it may not seem like it now, maybe you think that things can't get any worse and there's no way out....there always is and sometimes it'll come to you without you even thinking about it. Heads Up."

Re: Anxiety/depression
"Stevethehammer 10:38 Tue Jan 12 That's the thing with it, one day you can seem certain and it feels like a logical way out but then there are better days. You have to cling to the hope that there are better days even when it might not seem like it. Talk to someone, there is always a way back to better times. If you are stuck in going over everything in your head then find try to go out and find some open space, it can help break the cycle of negativity."

Re: Anxiety/depression
"Stevethehammer 10:38 Tue Jan 12 Sound advice already given - especially with the lighting around you; it makes a subtle but noticeable difference. Also, if you can, try and cook at least once a day, even if it's something simple; it occupies your mind and you get an end result; I found it very relaxing after 10 hours in an office dealing with muppets."

"Stevethehammer 10:38 Tue Jan 12 Re: Anxiety/depression Speak to the samaritans, cut down on booze, get out and do at least an hours exercise, walking, cycling, running etc, talk to friends and family, get a SAD lamp, use for 30 mins a day, try and eat good food, sleep. Hang in there mate, things will get easier"

Re: Anxiety/depression
"Depression is horrible. I suffer alot from it, some days I'm fine, thinking yep I can do this shit and then other days I'm planning my own death. Its weird but I find it comforting knowing there is a way out and don't get me wrong it would leave some destruction behind and it would affect my family but feeling this way you don't really think of others just wanting the pain, frustration, anger and confusion just to go. This lockdown really hasn't helped and losing a relationship a few days ago just adds into the whole dynamic of not feeling good enough for anyone or anything. I never quite understood depression before, I pretty much had everything, a good solid social base, a decent job and a marriage. All that has gone and as I said planning my way out, people will see it as a cowards way but it's almost like a drug.. Knowing pretty much a click of the fingers and I decide lights out."
Re: Anxiety/depression
"Many don't really understand depression, thinking that it should have something to do with how good or otherwise your life is. This is irrelevant. Depression can strike anyone, at any time, sometimes for an identifiable reason and sometimes not. It can be as random as breaking your leg completely out of the blue."

"Manuel 6:11 Thu Jan 7 Re: Anxiety/depression arsegrapes 1:46 Thu Jan 7 ''Billy Bragg, I try to justify problems by telling myself there are many worse off which is true of course, and just try to get on with it'' But that doesn't work in reality, does it. When you are on the floor it makes no difference and makes you feel no better at all that there are others (that you don't even know) still worse off. Let's keep it real. It also doesn't work if you don't know why you are depressed, so have nothing to compare to."

Re: Anxiety/depression
"Mike agreed. Manuel 6:11 Thu Jan 7 No offence intended, if you or anyone are on the floor that is irrelevant agreed. It was meant in context of my own experience of probably mild depression, which many probably suffer without knowing and might be enough to temporarily snap out of it, a sort of mind over matter. As said useless if you're depression is more severe."

Re: Anxiety/depression
"arsegrapes 4:59 Wed Jan 6 That's a question I've always wanted to raise but felt asking someone who knows through current experience a little insensitive. As far as I know, I'm not depressed (which is fine good enough for me), but have certainly had my low moments. Knowing the triggers that bring on depression might have parallels in my ""less good moments"", and so what made those moments less less good may help when related to others. Of course, they may not, but without asking, I don't know."

"arsegrapes 1:46 Thu Jan 7 Re: Anxiety/depression Bungo, thanks very much for that. ----------------------------------------------------------- No problem, but please remember the HAM-D (as it is known), is just one tool that gives an indication of a patient's level of depression. It shouldn't be taken as definitive or as a substitute for a full consultation with a suitable clinician."

Re: Anxiety/depression
"Bungo, thanks very much for that. I never knew such a thing existed. Very interesting. I gave it a go btw and have mild depression according to that. I wouldn't argue with that, I've like many had my fair share of ups and downs. Billy Bragg, I try to justify problems by telling myself there are many worse off which is true of course, and just try to get on with it. As you said there are many on here much worse off and many others outside of here much worse off also, when this realization kicks in I think you have to be grateful that your still breathing basically and if in relatively good health for age very lucky. There are always many that are also better off of course, but the half glass full, half glass empty analogy sums it up quite well I believe."
