Anxiety/depression
"Been through bad time lately with suffering with this. Dark thoughts as well. I know some posters on here suffer with this. Anyone come through the other side of this shit?
"A number of posters have been yellow carded and told to stay off this thread unless they have anything constructive to add. This is a thread that has been very useful to so many, for any other posters with scores to settle, argue on another thread. This thread is sacrosant.Thank you"

"I'm not one for censorship usually but I'd like to thank the mod/mods who got Willtell the fuck off this thread. Some things are too important to let cunts like him carry on. Maybe you've even saved someone from doing harm which gives him far too much power than he deserves. Again, thanks."
Re: Anxiety/depression
"Good for you Jon. I’m at a similar point with CBT and for me one of the big takeaways has been that it’s fucking normal. I used to worry that it was some big thing and it would destroy me yet at the same time I didn’t feel I was worthy of asking for help. It’s a massive step to ask for help and an even bigger one to realise that there are solutions out there. In my experience at least, it humbles you - and in a good way."
Re: Anxiety/depression
"Top man, Jon. Glad you're getting good help, I've heard CBT is meant to be really good."
Re: Anxiety/depression
"Completed the pre therapy course now. Follow up call coming where I get to discuss CBT options. Will keep you posted but already feeling a lot better. White Pony, anyone who does that is not worth worrying about. Cheers Jon"
Re: Anxiety/depression
"Glad to hear it went well Jon. I missed the beginning of your story, can I ask what therapy you’re doing? I did CBT a few years back - I think it’s a fascinating and really useful topic, but my issue was I had the choice between have it within a couple of months with a final year student or wait over a year for someone experienced. I opted for the student and though she was lovely, I probably could have just read it from a text book But still, make the most of whatever is on offer to you as just getting support of any sort is such a relief I’m so glad I’m the first session worked for you"
Re: Anxiety/depression
"Glad to hear you're doing well, Jon. Really glad they've done a pre assessment, I never even got to that stage when I was going through my shit. Keep us posted on the 2nd appointment, fingers crossed we win tonight as well!! Irons!"

Re: Anxiety/depression
"That’s good to hear Jon. Interesting about the pre-therapy part, which speaks to what I was talking about - making sure you get the right therapy for you. I didn’t get that initially but that was a few years back now. Just glad it’s helping mate. And yeah, the arguing is unwelcome and I apologise for my part in it. Just to give you some context, the bloke laughed at me a few years ago and encouraged me to top myself when I was quite clearly, genuinely suicidal and at the end of the road. I think the fact that I didn’t, still really pisses him off. Take care fella."

"Jon Good lad, don’t worry about the knobs Just the matter in hand Thanks for posting"
Re: Anxiety/depression
"Hi all just to update those showing interest I have attended the first session of a pre therapy course. There are three sessions which ready you for therapy and you work out what therapy you need tailored for what you want to achieve. It is worth doing this course for me as I want to not only get better but understand what triggered it, how to spot the signs and how to cope in the future. I will pop back on here after my second session which is tomorrow. Sad to read the mods post saying if you want to argue go on another thread. Why argue on any thread? Appreciate the sentiment though. Guys your positive messages to me really help so thanks very much."
Re: Anxiety/depression
Just a note of thanks to the mod who has updated the OP. There's no place for the usual bullshit you get on other threads on here.

Re: Anxiety/depression
"Nice one Jon, son! I would echo what Fifth says and also am interested in what kind of session you were offered. I think it’s of interest because, as Fifth says, the type of counselling you are offered is crucial. I was in an absolutely horrific place around 3 years ago and was first of all sent to fairly standard talking therapy. If anything, it made things worse. In those roles, they are usually not well trained enough to cope with a person who is literally on the precipice. It was only when I was hooked up with a bloody excellent CBT therapist that it started to click with me. Now I have to tools to use when I recognise things are going south. And they still do, but now I know the steps to take. If I’m struggling, I go back to CBT. The bottom line is, try whatever is offered, but if it don’t work then don’t just give up, make sure you push back and ask what the other options are. Good luck mate x"

Re: Anxiety/depression
"Jon I haven't followed the thread but I see you're talking about your first appointment or similar - if you mean counselling then that's great. Well done for taking that step. At the end of 2016/early 2017 I was going through a tough time and counselling really helped me. Then in January this year as well. Both times I was lucky in that the issues that were affecting my mental health were really 'external' ie marriage and job respectively. It can be harder when the issues are more 'internal' and/or the result of longer term trauma. Still, it's a great first step and it will help."
Re: Anxiety/depression
Hi all and thanks for all the positive posts. Went really well and looking forward to the next one. Definitely the right thing to do and nothing to fear if anyone is worrying. Feel I am on the road to a better place already. Will post again all. Cheers Jon

"Yeh, hope it all went well for you Jon and it’s gave you the boost/lift that you need to push forward and make that light at the end of tunnel a lot brighter. Keep well mate, you’re not alone. 67 - I’ve sent Steve another whomail as well. No reply. Getting deeply worried for his welfare now mate. Upsetting. Look after yourself!"

"Jon I hope your day went well today fella? Taking the first step might not seem like much at the time, but it can be a massive step forward towards being able to cope. Fingers crossed it went well for you."
