Woke watch

Post arsene york-hunt »

"There is a very good section on GB news where the ludicrous idiocies of Wokeness are looked at I thought we would should have one for WHO. I'll start with Baptiste on BBC: In Hungary,an ambassador's family are kidnapped by Islamic terrorists and carry out atrocities. At the end of the last episode Baptiste finds out that it is a false flag operation and conveniently, the real culprits are white supremacists who want to stop all immigration. Coronation Street ITV a gay black footballer is stopped by the police, because he is driving an expensive car. He is pushed to the ground during an altercation, and damages his leg threatening his career. Could have been written by Dawn Butler or a BLM activist."

"so he incited his thugs to storm the US Capitol to overthrow the election. Nothing like that has ever happened in US history. I love these type of comments which are utter bollocks. Still, it gets the likes of Derby all angry so it's quite entertaining to watch."

Irons - I have given you one. Another would be the context - police injured during what is arguably an insurrection led by the US president at the heart of US democracy and in defiance of an emphatic presidential election result is a remarkable event. Another would be perpetuation of a narrative. Media love to return to a well covered story not least because they have footage and commentators lined up. In the UK police are generally revered too. Yvonne Fletcher and Keith Blakelock are forever in the British psyche and quite righty too. As for that matter is Harry Roberts (our mate apparently).

"Canada, I doubt anyone here knows who his name is and has probably never heard of the incident because no one gives a shit about Canada. Your boy refused to accept the voters' will in the 2020 election, so he incited his thugs to storm the US Capitol to overthrow the election. Nothing like that has ever happened in US history. It's a big story. Nothing in Canada is ever a big story. Sorry about that."

My daughter has one of those. I bought it so she gets out of bed in time for school without using her phone to wake her up. A woke watch. That's another name for an alarm clock isn't it?

Irons. You may or may not be right but your chosen comparison of events is not a good one for various reasons starting with the 'calculus of affinity' - a phenomenon we have spoken about before I recall?

"For the record, mobs are scary, unpredictable masses that every law officer in their right mind fear for their lives in the face of, to one degree or another. That goes for the disgusting display on Capitol hill to hockey/basketball/football fans. We can't ignore or automatically demonize the cops - unless they were responding to something we are against."

"Darby I have no problem with the attention, I have a problem with reporting the same job differently depending on who a security person is opposing. Unfortunately for your credibility, your ""what if"" scenario has happened. And your ignorance of that proves my point. A Muslim terrorist did attack the Canadian ""capitol"" ie. parliament buildings. He executed a soldier on ceremony and moved into the legislative buildings. I bet you have no idea who Samearn Son is. He was a refugee-camp-born Cambodian-Canadian security officer who grabbed the attacker's gun. He was shot in the foot for his trouble but I am willing to guess the BBC did not run a story about him fearing for his life. I am not sure I saw a lot of homepage BBC stories about the well-being of those officers that survived the Westminster attack, for that matter. Is their mental health worth less?"

"ironsofcanada 2:05 Wed Jul 28 Maybe it's attracting attention because he was assaulted while trying to protect the Capitol from being overrun by domestic terrorists? If a group of Muslims had attacked the Capitol, dragged police into the crowd, started beating them to death while chanting ""Kill him with his own gun"" I'd imagine the reaction here would be different. But because it was white right-wingers doing the lynching, the white right-wingers here complain about how much attention it's getting."

"Rios, New York Democrats have just elected a former police officer, Eric Adams, to run for mayor. He'll probably be NY's next mayor. He's completely opposed to Defund the Police. https://nypost.com/2021/07/10/eric-adams-win-in-nyc-proves-defund-the-police-dem-non-starter-james-clyburn/ Portland is famously eccentric and prone to fringe politics. Minneapolis is of course where George Floyd was murdered. American politics is impulsive and emotion-driven, but they're moving away from the stupid idea of eliminating the police department. Either way, that's only two cities of the many that Democrats control in the US. So it's not a mainstream Democrat position. Either way, Defund the Police is a stupid, overly emotional policy, but it's not the same as trying to lynch police officers so you try to overturn the election process."

"Darby_ 11:41 Wed Jul 28 Set aside defunding for a second. There are some in the police everywhere that are absolutely horrible human beings. It is a job with some degree of power, so it attracts them, like politics, and can make them worse. But that is not all the police, from my experience. And a whole lot of the police, including the bad ones, end up in situations on a semi-regular basis where ""he[/she/they] feared he would die."" Any riot or protest that might become a riot, a lot of traffic stops (especially in the States), arresting a person that could be under the influence of anything, physically rescuing people, approach a residence to make an arrest. Read just a little about the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayerthorpe_tragedy and see that even in rural Alberta lives of police (who were my sister's colleagues at the time) are in danger as a part of their routine. Of course the cop the BBC chose to highlight feared for his life and I am grateful for his service. My point and my question why does he get a story when many other cops over the last few years would have felt the same? Is there anything political in it? Is that the job of the BBC?"

"Darby_ 11:41 Wed Jul 28 As I understand it, NY, Minnesota and Portland have already defunded their police depts or are in the process of doing so. The next step is to call for a federal police force to tackle crime. Its their way of removing some of the power of the individual states, but it ignores state sovereignty."

"Ironic that you of all people say that, Mashed in Moscow. Mainstream Democrats like Biden don't want police defunded and have made no attempts to do so. They'll probably increase funding for police. But even the fringe minority who do want police departments defunded don't want them lynched by right-wing terrorists. So much for Blue Lives Matter, eh?"
