Woke watch
"There is a very good section on GB news where the ludicrous idiocies of Wokeness are looked at I thought we would should have one for WHO. I'll start with Baptiste on BBC: In Hungary,an ambassador's family are kidnapped by Islamic terrorists and carry out atrocities. At the end of the last episode Baptiste finds out that it is a false flag operation and conveniently, the real culprits are white supremacists who want to stop all immigration. Coronation Street ITV a gay black footballer is stopped by the police, because he is driving an expensive car. He is pushed to the ground during an altercation, and damages his leg threatening his career. Could have been written by Dawn Butler or a BLM activist."

"SurfaceAgentX2Zero 8:32 Fri Sep 16 I agree. Like politicians, lawyers are needed and provided an essential service but their service should be limited as much as possible and they should be highly scrutinised and called out when they abuse the system. The Roe v. Wade thing in the States shows it cuts more than one way as well."

"ironsofcanada 7:36 Fri Sep 16 'People can rightly do both,' Strong laws protecting our liberties are one of our greatest achievements. Most of our highest-paid lawyers are a bane on our lives."
Re: Woke watch
Go woke go broke……It’s real! Look at CNN ratings have plummeted just like all the liberal networks and now we have seen several firings and Don Lemon being removed from prime time to a morning slot. Big changes at CNN as the new boss gets it. The other fuckwit networks will follow soon. Not much longer till the woke brigade are out of fashion and will soon be a distant memory.

"Fo the Communist 1:27 Fri Sep 16 ""People - and I accept this isn't you - should stop throwing up their arms and wailing about 'lefty lawyers' and begin to hold the Government - and its failings - to account."" People can rightly do both, unless they have locked themselves into trying to defend one side. The legal system is rightly one of the powerful modern Estates but can be and has been abused. Just like the First Estate."
Re: Woke watch
"The fact is this country more often has a Tory than Labour government. Make of that what you will because for sure a government that can have untrammelled power with a mandate from less than 30% of the electorate won’t worry too much about accountability. Though this government in common with previous Tory administrations must pay attention to, even dance to the tune of, the right wing media. Still though Braverman, as with the mendacious Patel, will not manage to reduce illegal immigration, we should all be grateful that City bankers etc will have the cap removed from their inadequate bonuses. When that happens it will herald the first Brexit win of any note."

Re: Woke watch
"It's true. The Tories are in power and have been in power for a long time, so it's their fault. They and only they are accountable. Of course you might feel someone else would do an even worse job, but that's an entirely different matter and one of conjecture, at that. That's entirely unarguable. However, I don't recall Labour admitting this when they neglected to supervise the banks and it all went tits. Quite rightly, nobody believed them when they screamed it wasn't their fault and they got kicked out. It will be the immigration debacle that does for the Tories and quite rightly, too. Inactions have consequences. Just ask Nick Clegg."

"Mashed I was actually trying not to be overtly party political in my post for the reasons you say. But the fact is that only one political party has the power to govern and that is the incumbent one. I take your point about Government being one institution among many but one shouldn't downplay the power it does have to bring about change. It has the numbers to effect change but it seems to me it is lacking either competency or conviction. Never mind a domestic immigration policy, we have seen in the past strong governments take us to war, possibly illegally and against vast swathes of public opinion. It could do so because it had both the numbers and control of the other institutes of government (note small g) in the way that was necessary to take such drastic action. The current Government has the former but not the latter. People - and I accept this isn't you - should stop throwing up their arms and wailing about 'lefty lawyers' and begin to hold the Government - and its failings - to account."

"""The government is not an all powerful institution. It is one institution amongst many. The soft power of the Civil Service is immense and they have the power to thwart government policy. That's true regardless of the party in government and is why Tony Benn's quote and 'Yes Minister' resounded with the public."" You're absolutely spot on here tbf. But the question should be.... ""What the fuck are the government doing about it?"""

"""One group fills planes, the other one empties them. It is a lazy assumption. If you said that opposition powers are in favour of unlimited migration and that the Tories don't do nearly enough to stop it, fair enough I'd agree, but saying they are the same is not true and lazy."" I used to think the same as you, that its incompetence. The reality is intentions don't matter. The end result is what matters. If you pay someone to sort a problem out and 12 years later the problem is worse than ever, at what point do you suspect they had no intention of sorting it? Call that lazy if you want, I'd call it trusting results not promises"

"Mashed, not true. One group fills planes, the other one empties them. It is a lazy assumption. If you said that opposition powers are in favour of unlimited migration and that the Tories don't do nearly enough to stop it, fair enough I'd agree, but saying they are the same is not true and lazy. Fo, political opinions aside, few people are going to change those views based on an internet exchange, your post if factually incorrect....and I suspect you know it. They haven't had 12 years to fix it as you know. EU countries must belong to the ECHR and as members they are governed by it. The UK was only able to leave it on leaving the EU and where has most of the resistance to leaving it come from? The government is not an all powerful institution. It is one institution amongst many. The soft power of the Civil Service is immense and they have the power to thwart government policy. That's true regardless of the party in government and is why Tony Benn's quote and 'Yes Minister' resounded with the public. For my part I think that every institution in this country is in favour of unlimited migration with the exception of the government. Unfortunately they aren't as strong on it as I personally would want so can best be described as a bit of a handbrake."

Re: Woke watch
Hermit Road 11:54 Fri Sep 16 Surely a Government's inability to enact its own laws points to either a weak or incompetent Government. Especially when that Government has had 12 years to get to grips with it all. ' And that's ignoring the Government's own role in administering the very legal justice system that now frustrates it. Putting the Government's failure to enact a workable immigration policy down to 'lefty layers' misses the point woefully.
Re: Woke watch
It's one of the anomalies of life that well intentioned left wingers always ruin the society they want to improve. No-one minds immigration as long as it's of like minded peoples. Look at Sweden where crazy laws were introduced to quell objections to immigration like making it an offence to criticise it! Now according to the BBC a right wing government has just been voted in.

Re: Woke watch
"“ Actually it’s not effective to drop dinghy passengers off at lefty lawyers homes. Much better to drop them off at the home of the new Home Secretary who has pledged to eliminate these journeys completely.” Would make complete sense if we didn’t all know that the main barrier to deportations is left wing lawyers, a left wing civil service and activist judges. Every time the government fills a plane with deportees, expensive lawyers get their judge friends to empty t before it takes off."
Re: Woke watch
There's plenty to go around it seems. Enough to stab police officers in broad daylight even.

Hermit Road 12:52 Thu Sep 15 Something overlooked by both left and right is that most immigrants are socially conservative. Maybe saying men can have babies and pushing rainbow nonsense on children is a deal-breaker.

"Earlier this morning in Washington DC , the governor of Texas , Gregg Abbot bussed in around a hundred migrants from the US/Mexico border and dropped them off literally ,right outside the front door of Karmala Harris the Vice President, it’s a tactic that is now being used in the US to bring home the situation to those who implement the rules but has little bearing on !"

Re: Woke watch
"I did wonder about the widespread label of 'right wing' that these parties have been given. It is all about shifting the needle to the left. If you market the old centre as the new right, then the new centre is to the left of where it used to be and all the people who like to think of themselves as moderate centrists now fall into what used to be the left wing. You see the same here with a Conservative party that is aligned more closely with Blair than Thatcher being described as right wing."
Re: Woke watch
"The BBC makes me laugh. They carry a headline - ""Swedish PM resigns as right-wing parties win vote"". ""She has been edged out by a four-party right-wing block made up of the Sweden Democrats, Moderate Party, Christian Democrats and Liberals."" ------------------------------- In any other country would the right wing parties be called Moderate Party; Liberals; Swedish Democrats and Christian Democrats? So hardly a lurch to the right more to the centre of politics. These right wing parties won on a slogan of ""make Sweden safe again"". They propose bringing in longer prison sentences and restricting immigration. How is it that the left wing of politics is so intent on well meaning socialism but end up wrecking people's social lives?"
