"Massive Attack 7:25 Fri May 31 You still don't seem to get the fact that it was his boss Rolfes who made all the transfer decisions, and carried on making those decisions last summer after Tim had left, when they bought the players who made the difference for them to win the league, eg Boniface, their top scorer and Grimaldo, their top assister. He was also the one who picked Alonso to be manager and persuaded him to come, and to stay on when so many bigger clubs were in for him. If anyone might be considered a genius, it's Rolfes. Best we can hope for is that Steidten learned a lot from him."

"For what it's worth though, Steidten was instrumental in bringing 22yo Piero Hincapie to Leverkusen back in 2021 from South America. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/news/bayer-leverkusen-sign-ecuador-teenager-piero-hincapie-talleres-16927 https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/news/piero-hincapie-who-is-the-bayer-leverkusen-ecuador-defender-world-cup-22002 https://onefootball.com/en/news/bayer-leverkusen-part-ways-with-squad-manager-tim-steidten-36974452"

"Leverkusen only have one Brazilian on the books, Arthur, who was signed a few days after his 20th birthday in April 2023, so when Steidten was there... only played 5 times this season."

Guess we're about to find out RM10. Maybe worse than the typical Sulley South American Specials he tries to get.

Not sure if this link will work but very interesting footage of Kudus playing in a deep CDM role while at Ajax. Would never have considered him there but looked very effective in the highlights at least. https://x.com/yalexo_/status/1796557264104640811

"I've not said we'd be totally fucked at all, more the point he gives us the best chance of progressing as a Club as much as possible. A genius? Depends on your definition I suppose, but for someone who recently left a Football Club last year with many of his player acquisitions there, including an unbelievable young manager playing shit hot Football and winning a double in his 1st season in charge and just 1 game away from a complete unbeaten season in all competitions, then yes I guess he could be considered a bit of a genius. A man who even brought De Bruyne to Werder Bremen when he was struggling badly at Chelsea. That's the kind of foresight and vision he has and he gets most of the top deals done. And if he can't, then there's not many who can. His success rate at just 45yo is unbelievable in recruiting players and Coaches. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-12224897/Tim-Steidten-brought-stars-Werder-Bremen-Leverkusen-set-West-Ham.html The bloke knows what he's doing and we are very lucky to have him."

"Massive Attack 5:12 Fri May 31 Apologies in advance for pissing on your chips here, but to me that post is just about the opposite of the way we should look at Steidten. You're making out like he's a total genius without whom we'd be completely fucked and have to let Sullivan take over. The most important thing is simply having someone doing that role, overseeing the long term strategy rather than leaving it to a succession of different coaches or the chairman fancying a punt. As far as Tim himself goes, he's made a very decent start to his career in this role, but let's not make out that he's the man responsible for Leverkusen's current fortunes. When he was there he was 3rd in line behind Rolfes and Voller, even before getting to chairman level, so it's not like he was the one making any transfer decisions or negotiations, and he sure as shit wasn't the one who hired Alonso. I reckon it'd be more accurate to say that he was simply head of the scouts/nerds department and probably compiled and summarised their data and made recommendations to pass on to his bosses."

"Hopefully tieing him down to another 5 year extension after that.. Recruitment is such a crucial part to any successful Club and when we've got about as good as we could get in that department, it's imperative to keep him sweet for as long as possible. It's not just about player Recruitment either. It's widely acknowledged Steidten is also crucial in selecting the right type of manager at a Club as well, that fits the ethos of what it wants to achieve. He was instrumental in getting in Lopetegui, just as he was at 1st identifying and then convincing inexperienced Alonso to Leverkusen. This geezer is the real deal and we're fortunate to have him. https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/liverpool-warned-off-backroom-supremo-who-hired-xabi-alonso-at-bayer-leverkusen"

"In regards to Steidten Airlines, I'm a massive fan of his and how he goes about his (now our) business. He clearly studies the market and scouts for the best that money can buy - See Kudus/Alvarez or any number of Bayer Neverlusens current crop of talent he brought to that Club with outstanding outcomes. He seems to have a Team of scouts/nerds who know what they're doing and it's a slick operation with little faff. Once he fires up the jet engines, armed with his charm and a suitcase of readies, he invariably gets his man and he has the Polaroids in the leer jet to prove it. One of the best bits of business West Ham did in recent times was get Tim Steidten on-board at the Club, as he's just about 1 of the best at what he does. If he can't get them to sign, then you'll struggle to get them anyway. My only issue with the smooth talking, jet setting, centre-parting extraordinaire is keeping him sweet to stay at West Ham for the next 10 years so to allow him the time and space to build something special for our Club. Because 1 day he will end up somewhere like Man City, Arsenal or the like in Europe. His track record for 1 so young still is top notch. And who would you rather, Captain Steidten or the blimey toad that is Sullivan doing our business making transfer deals happen..... Keep up the good work, Tim and keep aiming for the fucking stars."

That's how I view it. I'm encouraged we are proactively searching as early as possible for some top quality International players in Brunos case or top quality young talent and not afraid to spend big if their reputation justifies it respectively for their age.

Can’t stand the bloke on C&B just rants and swears too much. I like “West Ham Voice” he gives a balanced view without all the drama and seems to know some stuff.

Have always thought Greaves sounded like a good prospect. Helps the home grown quota too Rather a 23yo than a 28yo that is still in Brazil at that age Will be exciting for the people of Hull too to see a private jet when Tim swings by

"C&H West Ham Shift Defensive Focus After Bruno West Ham United are wasting no time in addressing their defensive needs following the collapse of negotiations for Brazilian defender Fabricio Bruno, according to an inside source at the club. Technical director Tim Steidten is not dwelling on the failed Bruno transfer. Hammers News reports that Steidten has alternative targets in mind and is actively pursuing them. West Ham are reportedly turning their attention to Jacob Greaves, a highly-rated centre-back currently playing for Hull City in the Championship. Links between West Ham and Greaves have been circulating for the past two months. The Hammers view strengthening their defense as a top priority this summer transfer window. Several factors contribute to this urgency: Kurt Zouma’s injuries, Nayef Aguerd’s desire to leave, Angelo Ogbonna’s contract situation, and Konstantinos Mavropanos’ inconsistent performances. West Ham seem to be adopting a more proactive approach compared to David Moyes‘ drawn-out pursuit of Harry Maguire last summer. By quickly shifting their focus to other options like Greaves, they demonstrate a willingness to explore alternatives. At 23 years old, Greaves fulfills the homegrown player requirement and has established himself as a top defender in the Championship. His potential echoes the successful signing of Jarrod Bowen, another player West Ham acquired from Hull City. West Ham’s swift change in strategy highlights their commitment to addressing their defensive frailties. While missing out on Bruno is a setback, their focus on securing a promising young talent like Greaves suggests a determined approach to reshaping their backline."

To be honest until you see them on a jet with Steidten with a pen in their hand its not worth getting up or down about any of these. Pleased that we are out looking in May so hopefully we get everyone lined up for the start of pre season

"I can't see us signing this kid but looks a very exciting talent, not long turned 18. I would love it if we did. Hopefully Bowen will be back on the wing and Kudus in the middle in their best positions. This kid can do both and play wingback by all accounts Would be a very exciting signing."

"I've banged on about him before but hope that Steidten is considering Andre from Fluminense while he is out in Brazil. We were linked last summer but Fluminense didn't want to let him go halfway through their season. I believe there is an acceptance that he will leave this year... hope it's us that get him. He is a little, combative CDM that still likes a dribble and has loads of flair. I reckon he will end up somewhere in the PL next season and will be a star wherever he rocks up. Probably plays a similar role to Downes (with more flair obvs). Unfortunately Tim isn't going to see him playing as he's currently out with a knock."

"Two from the Guardian: West Ham are in talks with Palmeiras over a deal to buy the 18-year-old attacker Luis Guilherme. The Brazil Under-20 international is valued by his club at about £25m. Guilherme, who plays mainly on the right but can also operate on the left or as an attacking central midfielder, has made 17 appearances for Palmeiras since the turn of the year. On Thursday he played the full Copa Libertadores game against the Argentinian club San Lorenzo. Guilherme has been identified by West Ham’s technical director, Tim Steidten, as a target. Steidten is working with the new head coach, Julen Lopetegui, to strengthen the squad in several positions, including centre-back. Also reporting the Bruno bid faces competition from Saudi over personal terms, not the fee."
