"The other thing is players these days are largely 'owned' by their agents. They go where they're told. If the Saudi's are in, and the agent says ""go there"" there's nothing we can do given we don't have a world class oil or natural gas well under Rush Green."

"We shouldn't read too much into all this 'Saudi' rumour mongering. It's more than likely just a bargaining tool....""when the deal gets close, tell them someone who pays more is interested"". Very transparent. Most of this stuff is agents playing it out in the public eye for their own negotiation purposes. Either the guy will come or he wont - we can't stop others getting involved, and we can't stop rumours. This is no different to when Newcastle got bought out, and suddenly 'Newcastle' were interested in every player that was in negotiation. Somewhat pathetic."

"So this Guilherme chap has apparently had his head turned by the Saudis and our deal is now in doubt. LOL. If so, or if he is using it as a ploy to get more lucca then just tell him to fuck off... Jeez."

This backbone of English players is an admirable sentiment. Only it’s no longer the 1970s and the club is aspiring to break into the top six. Plenty of English backbone in the lower leagues though I’d imagine. Maybe there is even an odd nugget or two of top-six material so it’s about scouting it or making sure the Academy potential is properly explored.

Backbone to the first team squad. My post and point is being deliberately and wilfully misinterpret to make ad hominin attacks. I would like West Ham to retain a backbone of English players in the first team squad. Currently we only have Bowen as a guaranteed first team starter and Ward-Prowse as a first team regular. The aging Creswell is the only other senior Englishman in the squad. This needs adressing in my opinion.

The only manager in the PL who regularly puts 6 English players in his first 11 is Dyche. Did it at both Everton and Burnley. Not an appetizing thought is it?

"Lewis, Smith Rowe, Ramsdale, Nelson, Nketiah, Gomez, Jones, Elliot backbone? What’s the criteria then? Bowen, Ward-Prowse, Earthy, Ings, Cresswell, Antonio (regardless of his international allegiance) by your logic of having to only have played a game."

"The strategy is clear with all the expensive signings now. Give them a two-year release clause which entices them to come over and make a name for themselves, and for the club if they are a huge success, they go in two years for around double the money, or better if someone wants them after a year. I don’t really have an issue with it at this stage. Other well run clubs have operated this way for years and it allows them to refresh the squad continuously. Beats the alternative of being stuck with deadbeats for years because nobody wants them. An 18 year old Brazilian is obviously a risk but the same would have been said for Encisco and Buonanotte at Brighton and I’d take both of them. Its only about 20 million quid. The equivalent Britsh player would be more. Think it is a “if you’re good enough you’re old enough” mentality this season. Think we’ll see a fair amount of Earthy."

"Looked into the whole Fabricio Bruno thing a bit. So he currently earns around 30k per week, in a country with a cost of living between 50 and 100% lower than the UK. So to move across the world and live in parity he'd have to be being offered 60k per week at least...and you could understand him saying ""that's a lot of hassle for no real gain to uproot my family for that"". Would make sense he was after nearer to 100k to make it worth his while."

Nage, apparently the agent is keen to do the deal with us, as if he's successful and does get a big money move after that, it's more cash in his back burner. I've got no problem with that, works out for everyone in the long run."

Am hoping we will sign the Hull centre half Jacob Greaves soon. Lots of talk but need to move Flynn Downes & George Earthy WILL BE LIKE NEW SIGNINGS Unfortunately a lot of English players at Premier league level have an unjustified price premium
