"That makes me happy, I’ve been worrying about how lonely Shaun Wright Phillips must be getting whilst he is still undergoing his medical. Someone for him to talk to."

Cresswell is an experienced pro and will be useful to have in the squad but he's now a back up player.

"Yes I am putting the lion share of the blame on the Manager. Bombarded with attacks for almost every game whilst conceding around 70% most matches will take it's toll, especially when you rarely Sub or change a XI all season long. I felt sorry in the end fir all the defensive players including Keepers and Defensive Midfielders like Alvarez he openly chucked under the bus before reversing over him. More in possession of the ball and more enthusiasm on attacking will change that, along with some new additions too. If we are able to get in serious quality that betters them then by all means, just don't think it's critical to get us defending better, it's more about the right approach as a Team, to press more from the front etc."

"Apart from these South American options, the window dont start for a couple of weeks does it? Some players only options after 1st July? Most of what we read is speculation by journos and regurgitated by spotty kids via their web sites in hope of getting clicks. Should get proper jobs but they prefer to sit on their Arris and play being sports journalists :-) Suspect we might end up with players non of these internet warrior journos have even heard of? The big bloke in spain might well be worth a punt though. Loppy mist be aware of him but that might be why its suggested we’re in for him? That said, we’re negotiiating on 5-10 players if u go thru all the rumours. Odd as the window isnt open and Steidten is in Brazil. ;-)"

"I hated Moyes but not having it all on him, we conceded how many last season? Took how many hidings? And you want the full backs to stay the same?. I think there is a fair argument to have the whole back 4 changed but at the very least it needs a new right back & 2 new centre halfs. Any time Coufal plays against pace we have a problem like when Barnes came on at ST James and tore him a new one."

"Coufal produced 7 assists in the Premier League and like Emerson was a virtual ever present, just as he was in our European run towards the Quarters going out to the outstanding Leverkusen. I'm more than happy with both starting in the season in the League under a more possession based Football so they don't have to defend anywhere near as much as we were asked too under Moyes, relentlessly under pressure from waves of opposition attacks."

"I also don’t have a problem with Antonio staying as long as he is 2nd/3rd choice but cos he wanted him at wolves and with this clubs fucking diabolical history when it comes to CF I dread him starting come August. Cresswell staying is proper shit though, bloke isn’t good enough anymore simple as, it’s the cheap option giving him a new deal. Just hope Emerson’s form is as good as most of last year bar the last 6 weeks or so where he went off the boil & he don’t get injured. Not having Coufal either still being our 1st choice RB, right back after CF & CB is our most pressing issue, needs youth & pace there."

"Should Emerson leave then of course someone else will be brought in as hus 1st team replacement, however I'm not so sure he'll go. As for being strongly linked to a new young Striker, there's one we're trying to get off Athletico Madrid for about £20M-30M. He was only 19yo out on loan banging them in and setting them up for fun on loan at Alaves. He reminds me a lot of Lukaku at that age, raw but with bundles of talent... https://youtu.be/EDo_HsabvCc?si=-aE1-FaX7cnPeaLK Very important thing to always bear in mind too when we buy these young exciting talents, is we now have the perfect recruitment combo with Steidten as the fixer in such deals and Lopetegui who loves to work with such raw young talent as our new hands on Head Coach. And why both Moyes and Steidten jarred with one another so much this past year with different ideas and philosophies of how the Club should be ran. This is also why they call Steidten the Pearl Diver, identifying targets like this and Guilherme. Seriously shit hot promising talents at a very young age, which worked wonders for Leverkusen and Werder Bremen. He's one of the best in the game at unearthing the right kind of young players and invariably gets the deals done. And he isn't afraid for the Club to spend relatively big on them either, knowing the investment in the long run, be it financially or on the pitch results will be huge. We saw that already with him determined and succeeding to get in Kudus as a 22yo for £35M but now we're all looking at a player who's going to be worth over £100M soon, which then makes that initial cost cheap by comparison of potential value."

"Stowie Back 4 man? Yes, he is. He likes hus full backs to get forward and join attacks, just as much as they be solid at the back when defending. Both Coufal and Emerson fit that bill and expect them to start the season."

"Stowie My guess should we keep Antonio as well as Cresswell is actually more down to Lopetegui, rather than the Club and wouldn't be the cheaper option. Reason I say that is because Lopetegui is on record of preferring a big squad and for having at least 2 players for every position so to encourage competition for places. So I'd imagine these 2 will be squad fillers needed to help drive that competition, there for insurance should we suffer injuries during the season, as well as be 2 stand out long serving players players amongst the Squad that knows the identity of the Club inside out and know what it takes to play for this Club. Added bonus that they are both big fan favourites (I certainly am!) too. The cheaper option would have been to resist paying them another contract each. I don't think it's the worst decision in the world for the sake of only 1 more year extension and expect the Squad to he packed out and not intentionally down to the bare bones like Moyes loved, before injuries even kick in."

Ludo According to reports Villa were looking at him a month ago so were already ahead of us. Barcelona were looking at him too in Jan so I'd be very surprised but pleased if we did get him.

Lopetegui is a back 4 man ain’t he or have I got that wrong? Thought his Sevilla sides and at Wolves it was mainly a back 4.

Apparently Villa have thrown their hat into the Garcia ring which is a bit of a disaster... he was tempted by the PL over Leverkusen but obviously Villa can offer CL as well (and a Spanish manager). Shame as he would have been a perfect addition.

Was said yesterday that Emerson might be off as he doesnt suit the wing back model Cresswell is even more unsuitable

Convinced one of the reason they went with Lopetegui is cos he wanted Cresswell & Antonio ar wolves so was gonna be happy to keep & use them here. I expect Antonio to be fluffing around up front again next season. Cheap option in every sense

"Anyone who thinks, or defends, giving Cresswell a new contract is a bit of a plonker in my book. Why spend millions and wasting a year when we already know he isn't good thought for this league anymore? We're not in Europe anymore so he's unlikely to play much if at all. I joked on here that he'd be out first signing under this new manager and was quickly jumped on. Haha"

"RE: Cresswell. On the face of it, it seems ridiculous and it's clear he shouldn't be playing much, but I wonder as the senior pro at the club with a lot of change happening he's still there as a leader/link/constant for the players like Noble in his last season. Also I guess he counts as homegrown which seems to be pretty important this season as we are likely to be up against it with that."
