Russ of the BML 3:33 Wed Jul 17 Tobido is the only one that excites me that we've been linked to. But I'm only basing that on Man Utd and Juve wanting him.

"Articles I have seen today. Offered 25m euros for Alex Sorloth. Been rejected by Villareal but West Ham expected to go back with 33m euros. Villareal want 38m but are expected to accept. Although, another article states if Villareal don't accept the 25m then a deal has been agreed with Sevlila for El-Nesyri. Nice have accepted our bid for Tobido which is £36m plus bonuses but player is said to be cold on the move and is awaiting a formal approach from Juve after it was rumoured they want him. Wan Bissaka said to have agreed terms but awaiting Man Utd to accept bid."

Any Arsenal reject we ever got turned out to be a dud? Goes back to the clapped out John Radford. Stewart Robson was brilliant for a season until we worked out why Arsenal let him go. He was made of glass. Liam Brady was a fairly defent buy but at tye end of his career which us why he was let go. Walford? One good season. Alliadere less said the better. Winterburn one good season. Wilshire !! Loads of their broken or worn out cast offs. I could well have forgotten a deal for a player who was good tor us from them? Hartson maybe?

"Arsenal will do their usual and will want stupid money for Nelson, I'd imagine. We need to be a bit careful we don't get a name for ourselves willing to overpay to get the likes of Kilman, KWP and Nelson. Plus overpaying for all these players will harm us down the line with FFP, or whatever it's called now."

"For the rumoured 30m he's available for I'd go for McTominay. Think he's just what we need and is better than Ward Prowse, Soucek and Downs who we've just sold. *Dons tin hat*"

"Nelson has told arsenal he wants to come to us, £75k a week, feels Arsenal have stagnated his career and wants to get it back on track with us. Palace are also in for him. I know it won’t be a popular opinion but I would like him to join if the fee is reasonable but knowing Arsenal it won’t be."

"Thing is you never know exactly what is going on behind the scenes, and didn't we already bring in a loan fee last summer from Soton, maybe they was taken on board too? Tbh I don't know much about Walker-Peter's so hard for me to put a price on him, pacey I think? But suspect we will pay about 20 for him, if he comes. Not saying that's right and agree with one year left seems heavy, but maybe our thinking is if we have a good RB for 4-5 years and sell off a player who we don't want for a net 2 mil spend we'd see that as being OK. Then again, I'm not entirely convinced these days that having just one year left on a contract is that significant in terms of lowering the price, Spurs got 100 mil for Kane with just a year left, whose to say Soton won't offer him a new deal, unless they really need the money."

"I won't disagree with any of what you've said, but I still think we were in the driving seat. How much would you want us to go to for KWP considering he's got 1 year left? I wouldn't be going over what we've sold Downes for."

"LT - Take your point, but I think it goes beyond who likes who and who needs who the most etc. Walker-Peters is an established player, played for England, and has far more pedigree than Downe's, who let's have it right is basically a Championship player going by his CV."

"I hope we don't end up signing Walker-Peters for anything over the £18m we've sold Downes for. If we do, then you've got to question who's doing the negotiating at the club. Walker-Peters has got 1 year left on his contract and they wanted Downes more than we needed Walker-Peters. We were in the driving seat."

"99.9% noise with web sites making up or regurgitating stories of who we are in for, how much we are offering and that every player has a queue of suitors. So could well be those grubby agents puttjng out said rumours to web sites and “journos”. We do have the same old problem though. A limited budget although our net spend on fees and wages perhaps not so bad as we’ve sold Kehrer, Benrahma, Fornals, Downes etc and bought Kilman and the young Brazilian. We have a healthy FFP standing and have TV revenues, ticket revenues coming in. Kretinski gives us cheaper loans these days but I guess you have to trail back thru our transfer dealings for a few years as everything really revolves around amortisation amounts of transfers in and out. Before Steidten, our transfer losses on players were horrendous. But 3 European runs and a cup win woukd gave brought in extra? Bottom line is we are all clueless. The ofx journo like Dharmesh seems to get a decent insight but currently all forwards look overpriced or want to go elsewhere. Rightbacks? Wan Bassaka is a Salthouse client so can see that being favoured by Sullivan but his wages are far too high. Our early optimism about getting business done early now impeded by the reality of greedy pkayers, clubs, agents and us on a budget? Steidten needs to find some “pearls”’fairly quickly?"

Always seemed to be said that Downes came via Warburton's connections and wasnt Moyes choice The fact that he played some European dead rubbers and then in the PL as a no10 or in the left side graveyard seemed to back that up. Am guessing that Lopetegui after a couple of weeks looking at him has decided that Potts & Orford are better prospects Think we are back from Austria now so hopefully now some deals get finalised before we start some more friendlies

"Sir Alf 2:28 Wed Jul 17 I see your point, but its not necessarily a bad thing if we want rid. My pal is a Spurs fan and his constant moan about them under Levy is that they don't sell enough players and when they do they sell them too late. It makes the squad stale. Something he says has held them back."

Lookout Nutsin nostradamus 'called' that Downes wasn't up to it - all it took was a season of getting no game time and then getting fucked off to the championship. The man is a genius.
