"Sir Alf 11:10 Fri Jul 26 You make a valid point. Our profit on transfers is astoundingly poor. We hardly ever make money. Rice being the obvious exception - But we generally lose money and, as you say, often double digits. So why are we now quibbling over £8m? If Tim and Lope have targeted Duran then fully commit. Just pay the money, get him in and move the fuck on to other targets. If Tim and Lope are not sure he is worth what Villa want then that's your red flag and you walk away."

I hope we have other irons in the fire as this Duran deal is taking far too long. I'd be telling Villa that it should be done by the weekend or we move on Have heard that Orford has and hasnt been offered a contract so dont know the truth. If he hasnt that seems surprising even if we were going to sell him and needed more time on his deal to up the price. You'd hope we would extend his deal even to send him out on loan to develop. Seems likely Earthy will stay with the first team squad and imagine Potts would want to do the same having done the loan with Wycombe

"Faux - Yea OK, I thought Orford was a bit older for some reason, but still, obviously some players develop quicker and better than others, but here we have a very promising 18 year old West Ham fan and graduate who we are chucking in as a sweetener to get a 20 year old with limited experience, it just seems a bit arse about face to me. Fast forward two to three years and it's not unreasonable to think that Orford could be a top PL player and Duran had a breakdown and is playing in Sweden or somewhere, a bit like what happened with that prick Morrison. All the above said, this deal is still far from done anyhow."

"The Morrocan at Bayern owed £3 million which is a sticking point holding up the transfer “allegedly”? Same thing that stopped Maguire agreeing to a move us last year? No surprise if Mancs swoop in and get him. Duran valuation diffrrence of £8 million. Orford worth keeping if poss imo. We lose double digits on most transfers during the Moyes era and dont blink. Surely we can find a compromise with Villa? Split the £8 mill and offer £36 and increase the sell on fee percentage? Easy tjis negotiatiôn malkarky :-) Sullivan is involved perhaps. Penny wise, pounds foolish as his ego needs satisfying and he will argue over a couple of million to « feel big «  :-("

"Orford hasn't turned down anything, he hasn't been offered anything by the club which seems strange. He is a West Ham fan and wants to stay, the club are chucking him to try get Duran as Villa enquired about Orford last month. As said below i'd rather us continue to turn into Ajax and get Brobbey and keep Orford."

"He's 18 years old Mike, and grew up supporting West Ham. If at that age, football has become 'just a day job', then what a sad state of affairs. It's not the case, of course, because most people know that kicking an inflated bit of leather around with your mates for millions of pounds a year isn't just a day job, it's a dream only 0.01% of men are capable of, most of them know they're living the dream. Anyone on the planet could've done your shit admin job with a weeks training, and they'll know they are doing that borefest every day just to put food on the table. Big difference, regardless of how much that dents your obscene, undeserved ego."

"Supporting the club is one thing, working for it having seen all the internal cogs & wheels might make him feel very differently. For you, playing for West Ham sounds like your absolute dream ticket, whatever the conditions; for him it's the start of what he hopes will be a successful career in FOOTBALL, and not necessarily at the club he supports. It's his day job, not his 2 hours of entertainment each weekend."

"Seems an irony somewhere that we (correctly) talk about Orford as a youth player who might be good one day, and Duran as a beast who we are happy to pay 30 plus for, yet they are the same age. Anyway, Villa are playing hardball, which is their right I suppose, just proves how tough it can be for some deals, he's clearly our main target for a forward so hope it gets done or we end up with 'second best'. At least the Moroccan looks done, so some progress."

“Where does he go from here knowing we were willing to fuck him off? Such a bad move” How do you know we were willing to fuck him off or it’s such a bad move? How do you know he hasn’t told us to shove a contract or his dad hasn’t already instigated a move. Stop being a prick and trying to act all high and mighty trying to point score at everyone. You’ve based that whole sentence off a rumour. I’m sorry if that is a point that makes you not want to post on here anymore but all your basing that on is a rumour you’ve read somewhere and you need to grow thicker skin to post on here (I will wait for the I’ve posted on here 58 years blah blah blah).

"Thinking about it, if Orford is as good as the reaction of our fans suggests, surely Villa would absolutely bit our hands of for the last offer we made? Fuck waiting around till next summer to get him on a free, why risk that? They've got what I have to assume is the English Rodri in waiting on a plate, why ain't they steaming in?"

"Think Duran will get done eventually, he'll be entertaining for sure. Fuck knows what's going on with Orford, if he dont wanna sign up then fuck off. If we dont wanna give him a contract he obviously ain't rated anymore. Either way I don't care."

It’s got everything to do with the rumours you nut job. One of the rumours is he won’t sign a contract and wants out of the club and has already agreed to join villa when his contract runs out.

"Supports the club, yet at 18 years old doesn't want to sign a contract and just get his nut down and work hard to try to make it at the club, like Earthy, Potts & Casey seem to be doing? Great attitude, that."

'The Orford situation is a case of what you believe in the rumours.' My point was completely irrespective of any rumours. It's a failed attempt to off load him and leaves behind a bit of a mess. Which is surprising of such a highly rated youth player that supports the club.

I think in a couple of years time 38/40m will look cheap for him but right now it’s not a good deal for us.

"'Duran allegedly gets the “attitude” simply because he wants to play.' He was playing at Chicago Fire for all of about five minutes and openly welcomed a move away befoe any offers. He wanted to join Chelsea before and after joining Villa, and wouldn't have been obvious first choice. Chelsea pulled out, which considering the coin Boehly throws around should be warning enough."

I know nothing about his time in the states so can’t comment. He wants to leave Villa because he can’t get past Watkins and wants to play or are you saying he sees us as a bigger club at the moment? Don’t see that as an issue in all truth. The Orford situation is a case of what you believe in the rumours. We know that Villa have been sniffing around and that he is in the last year of his contract and then it’s what you believe from there… seems like some basis that his dad has been causing problems but then it’s either he has turned down a contract or we haven’t offered him one. Either way I doubt he is very surprised/might have pushed himself to be included in the deal.

Duran allegedly gets the “attitude” simply because he wants to play. The bloke perhaps thinks he’s better than he is at such a young age or having done well whenever he got minutes is frustrated by not getting more? Villa fans I know are worried as they think he may well be the “real thing” ( not the 70s soul band ;-) ) . He causes defences problems everytime he plays and they said he has an unbelievable shot on him. Hits it hard and cleanly every time. He simply has not got minutes because Watkins was on fire last season and Emery does not employ a 2 pronged central attack. I may be wrong but even at the fee quoted I reckon he may still be good business. Time will be the judge as always and assuming we do get him. He should be the leading striker for us and hopefully that means less of the supposed “attitude”?

"The worst thing about our pursuit of Duran is the Orford situation. Unless Lopetegui thinks he is utter shit, I thought he'd be an ideal prospect for him to improve. Where does he go from here knowing we were willing to fuck him off? Such a bad move."
