"Ron Eff 12:14 Fri Aug 16 The most ridiculous signing since Faubert went to Real Madrid. Can only think they're doing it to try to sell him for a few million next summer, once he's got the 'Man City' stamp of approval."

"ludo21 6:15 Thu Aug 15 Sounds like Solar was very successful at Valencia but could not at PSG. Unless they are one of those elite players that can excel in any team its often down to the tactical set up and ""blend"" in terms of who they play alongside. Its why so many players make moves that don't work out. Lets hope, if we get Solar, that Loppy's tactical set up ( high line, high press, high possession and working alongside the likes of Paqueta, Alvarez etc, is where he is better suited?) . I have no idea how PSG set up and his role but hope thats why he struggled. But Loppy managed him for Spain when he was briefly boss and obviously knows him from the Spanish league and hopefull Steidten and team have done the analysis and stats and think he would be a good fit. Could say that about all our signings really. Suspect out of 9 there will be some that don't quite cut it. Take Steidten's 3 picks last season. Alvarez and Kudus very successful whereas Mavropanos not so much. As mentioned, should be the end of reliance on a JWP / Soucek midfield though and see one of them moved on. My guess is Soucek."

Mubama to Man City is an odd one. I imagine it’ll be just as successful as Baptiste when he went there. Puts to bed the myth he just wanted first team football. Back to a development squad. All about the money. And my money says he’s never making it at the top level. Nothing about him.

"PSG Report @PSG_Report JUST IN: Carlos Soler wants to join West Ham, they’ve convinced him to join. The formula of the deal is being studied but due to FFP reasons, West Ham are currently working on making a loan offer with an obligation to buy to PSG for Soler. @sanchis14 , @relevo"

"West Ham Head coach Julen Lopetegui has spoken to Spanish newspaper Marca. “We had a small squad, and the idea is to have two players per position. We haven’t achieved that yet… but we are working on it,” “All the signings are to our liking and that of the sporting management. No coach should hold the keys to the future of the club. The idea was to bring in players who could know the Premier League so that British culture is in the dressing room, and then to be able to mix different ways of understanding football.” I can't believe some were calling him the Spanish Moyes back at the beginning..."

Not sure about these Carlos Soler rumours from PSG. He was booed off the last time he played for them and looking at on line comments they can't wait to get rid. 20m seems a bit steep in the circumstances. On paper he looks decent and obviously known to JL. Can't help but think we don't need him and would be better off giving Potts / Orford time off the bench than bring in another squad player?

"Boleyn - Funny that, if you said that about Georginio at Leeds a week ago I too would have said who? But a few days ago I come across a YT vid of all Summerville's goals for Leeds last season, 21 I think, so invested I think it was about 8 mins to watch it and Georginio was involved in a lot of his goals and looks a real talent, seems to operate through the middle too. Leeds are losing all their best players now, that's the price you pay for not coming up."

We’re not signing anyone foreign unless we can shift one of the non-homegrown players.

"Alf - You want to buy a back up to a back up, ffs! Apparently Lop doesn't rate Dinos at all, but I can't see another CB coming in unless Dinos or Aguerd leave. We won't be buying a LB. Ref Ings and Cornet, it looks like they won't even be making the bench, maybe not even get a shirt number, I can't see how they can still realistically be here post window."

"We seem to have the bargains of the century signed this season as I've just read on Man Utd 365 (sometimes known as Football365) that Brighton have activated the release clause of Leeds United forward Georginio Rutter (nope me neither) for, wait for it, £40M. What the fuck."

"This midfielder named Solar seems to be the one touted as next thru the door? Has to be the end of Soucek or JWP? Loppy knows him from when managing Spain and although on the fringe at PSG, he looks a very good technician who controls games from the centre of the park. Insurance for possible Paqueta ban makes sense so might be why we are interested? Too get the perfect window ( players toaddress weaknesses and specific positions although we know it doesnt always mean they adapt or are successful as there are many variables ) , we get another quick forward, better CB backup than Mavropanas and cover for Emerson ( Cresswell not up to it ) and wide left although Kudus might be the option there if Sommerville not involved or ineffective in some games? Obviously Im sounding very spoilt and entitled and know we are highly unlikely to get 2 or more but in a perfect world and having a squad that can compete with the very best in all competitions thats my opinion on what we still need as injuries, form, tactical options ppay a part over a season. Trouble with old gits like me. Entitled, instant gratification merchants we are ;-)"

"plankton 11:03 Wed Aug 14 Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread Everything I’ve read is that he’s had a good preseason. Tidy player who can finish. Not a big name and obviously they are looking to bring in players in the same position so the future doesn’t look great, bit of a weird signing. Seems a decent bloke and I think he gave up his squad number to one of the new signings when they came in."
