"I think the final week of the transfer window will be interesting for our ""outs"" department: Danny Ings Maxwell Cornet (remember him) Michael Antonio Vladimir Coufal Tomas Soucek Aaron Creswell Kurt Zouma retirement home in Saudi Arabia JWP If I am any opposition manager, I just set up my players to run at these 30+ year-old players. You are a guaranteed a free kick when they make a last ditch tackle or better still a goal as you cut open the Dad's Army midfield and defence."

Think I got it spot on early days still learning new system. New players to be integrated. We need time to gel but as this is prem it really doesn't give you that. Think one pundit summed it up perfectly it is like we are still playing hybrid David Moyes football trying to move to something else. Hopefully we can transform away from that asap. Also I think this will determine which players can adapt to the new from the old so will end up being on the bench if they don't or goodbye.

"Carlos Soler would be a solid addition. He was Valencia's best player by far before PSG signed him. If nobody has seen him play I would say he is a bit like Mark Noble but better technical ability, keeps the ball moving and works hard. So would be an upgrade on Soucek, JWP on that score alone. Maybe not in a physical presence or set piece but is quite good at the latter skill too."

"imho, both Soucek and JWP should rarely start and need to, at best, a plan B if ee are chasing a game, want to switch to direct balls into the box etc But both but especially Soucek make trying to play thru teams, to press and pass and move at speed and with crisp passing impossible. The goal of dominating the ball and keeping it and quickly recovering it will nevrr be achieved with these players in the midfield. We are “quarter baked” at present. Trying to retain the ball and playing a high line which is very risky if you lose it as you ate open to a counter. Then you need players with pace that can track back at speed if a team counters. Soucek is probably the slowest midfielder in the Premiership? Can anyone name a slower one? JWP quicker but so lightweight and anonymous when we are out of possession. The centre mid position is so important. Paqueta is skilful but is high risk and holds onto it and dispossessed too often to play that role. Look at Citeh, the key to that midfield is Rodri. When he doesnt play they struggle against the better teams. This Soler sounds like the right fit but we’ve not see him and rely of journos etc But all I know is while we wre starting or giving lots of minutes to the likes of Soucek, JWP in midfield we will continue to be overrun."

"Manuel - regarding JWP: although I don’t agree with your view he’s shit - peripheral England player, Premiership experience, high profile free kick specialist….. my original post did not focus on his level but merely observed the change in attitude towards him on here in one season. We’ve always had a scapegoat to focus our venom, and he appears next in line."

"ElGol Real Sociedad in shock over Carlos Soler's unexpected fate Carlos Soler shocks Real Sociedad by choosing West Ham over Basque club Real Sociedad are in a state of shock after learning of Carlos Soler's decision to join West Ham United, rejecting the Basque club's offer. The Spanish midfielder, who seemed convinced to sign for Real, has finally opted for the team managed by Julen Lopetegui. This news has come as a bucket of cold water in San Sebastian, where Soler was expected to become a key reinforcement for the next season. The interest of West Ham, who have been closely following Soler's situation at Paris Saint-Germain, has been decisive in their decision. The 27-year-old has struggled to secure a place in PSG's starting eleven, leading the Parisian club to consider selling him for around 20 million euros. Real Sociedad have seen their plans to strengthen their midfield fall apart with Carlos Soler's decision to sign for West Ham United. The Basque club were confident that the PSG midfielder would join their project, but Julen Lopetegui's interest and the English team's offer have changed the course of negotiations. Soler, who was looking for more prominence after an irregular spell in Paris, has preferred the Premier League over La Liga. PSG, willing to let Soler go for a figure close to 20 million euros, have found in West Ham a buyer willing to meet their financial demands. This unexpected turn of events has left Real Sociedad without one of its priority objectives, forcing the club to look for new alternatives in the market to strengthen its squad. The blow has been hard for the board, which had already advanced talks with the player and his entourage."

Todibo still needs adding to the 'Ins' list. What an unmitigated disaster this transfer window has been. I can't believe to many have fallen for the hype of the 'Tim the genius' nonsense. Relegation battle ahead.

"Ward-Prowse was involved in far more goals than Soucek last season, having scored the same amount. Soucek is everything that dictates the shit way we have played. Someone that rarely touches the ball. Ward-Prowse can pick a pass and is comfortable on the ball."

"JWP should definitely be sold if we can get a good price... his stock is still high, which it won't be after he spends a season on the bench. He offers next to nothing for us, he doesn't tackle, he has no pace and despite his dead ball prowess he doesn't have a decent passing range. He hasn't scored a direct free kick since he joined despite taking nearly all of them which rules out other decent free kick takers like Kudus and Paqueta. He isn't dynamic enough to offer anything from the bench either. I'd sell him and Soucek but at least Soucek does offer Option B from the bench."

"The signing of JEP a year ago was considered really good business on this site. Ten matches in, with corners assists, many on here and the media in general were further praising the signing as one of the best in the window. One year on and, oddly, he’s turned into the latest whipping boy."

If I’m gonna moan why the fuck did we by a 31year old kraut and not a young Villa striker?

"Not getting carried away by the first game. But, Seeing Soucek play the full game, poorly, Antonio start, badly, and Ward Prowse and Ings come on, anonymously reminds us what a shit show Moyes left behind. Slightly concerned that they even see the light of day and only Loppy can answer that one. Seeing Duran come on, be direct, a handful, a shithouse and a goal scorer shows what poor ownership we have, buying another 30+ immobile striker instead of paying the going rate for a good, potentially great, striker. Overall window has been OK and we need the new additions playing and bedding in with the deadwood banished. If we could go back for Duran we absolutely should and pay the £40m without the Snot Goblins penny pinching antics."

"Onesideman, spot on there, and those positions you mentioned were the useless buggers still playing from last season. Lop, should have started with all the new men and then as they tired subbed them, we’ve had Antonio playing like he did yesterday for the last 2 season’s, cannot control a bag of cement, any pass will be at least 5 yards away from where it should be, Coufal, cannot ever complain about his effort, but again football ing wise a division 1/2 player, centre midfield, no pace yesterday, Lop was waving his arms at the players trying to get them to press and the basically ignored him."

"I agree that Mavropanos was, by his poor standards, decent enough and I also thought Kilman was better than I'd feared. Our problems were at full back (both sides imho), central midfield and centre forward. Much like last year"

Mavropanos had one of his better games but imagine Todibo will come in Hadn’t watched preseason so was expecting based on posts on here for Kilman to be the new Malky Mackay but 3 stone heavier Thought he was very good We conceded because Antonio was marking Onana at a corner & let him have a free run & because Coufal got targeted & caught out of position To be fair he was often exposed 2 on 1 and they had acres of space down their left in the second half

"Nutsin 5:03 Sat Aug 17 Have to respectfully disagree about Stavros as the worst player and based on yesterday he was certainly as good as Kilman. That said, he did have a poor preseason and prone to ricketts last season. But did play pretty well when given a run in the team. He will make way for Todibo so a decent squad option imo"
