"ludo - yep, as a (retired) Spanish teacher, and having witnessed English being taught in Spanish schools, they don't seem to prioritize correct pronunciation anywhere near as much as they ought to, given that it's one of the biggest challenges in learning English. But on the other hand, everyone has an accent and it might be considered unreasonable to expect otherwise. And obviously, that includes native English speakers. I mean, is Loppy any more difficult to understand than, say, Kenny Dalgleish?"

I was surprised to see him use a translator in at press conference.

"Spaniards speaking English is a difficult one... I was listening to a (long) interview with the Villa director, Mushi (or whatever his name is) last week on the radio... turned it off eventually, painful to listen to. I'm surprised they persisted with it."

Manuel 12:42 Wed Aug 21 Fair enough. We will have to revisit this in the future when one of us is proved right. Will probably be you though if I am being totally honest. On Lop's English. I have noted it is not brilliant. Not holding that against him as his English is better than my Spanish.... But I do feel he is not as advanced as some of the other Spanish coaches in the PL. I always find understanding Spaniards speaking English difficult to understand at the best of times. Often I turn Pep off because he starts to mumble and I just don't hear what he is saying.

"getfootballnewsgermany Konstantinos Mavropanos could return to VfB Stuttgart kicker reports that West Ham defender Konstantinos Mavropanos is a candidate to potentially return to VfB Stuttgart as they look for defensive reinforcements. The Greek defender is said to have fallen out of favour under new West Ham coach Julian Lopetegui and his future at the club is no longer certain. After only a year away from the MHP Arena, it could open the door for a potential surprise return. Burnley defender Ameen Al-Dakhil is also said to be a candidate at VfB but is not top of their priorities at the moment. Stuttgart are still looking for a central defender to replace the departed Waldemar Anton. VfB have been linked to a host of defenders throughout this window including Loïc Badé of Sevilla and Armel Bella-Kotchap of Southampton. Mavropanos played 89 times for Stuttgart across three seasons at the club. The 26-year-old helped them finish ninth in his first season in the South West of Germany before then being one of the stand-out players as Stuttgart dramatically avoided relegation in 2022 and then needed to beat Hamburg in the relegation playoff a year later."

"Russ - Happy to agree to disagree. They never make the first team, and neither will this kid, so IMO yes it's a waste of time. Ref Lop's English, tbf it is pretty bad, you can barely make out what he is is saying, he mumbles."

"RM10 11:13 Tue Aug 20 Re: Official Transfer rumours and gossip thread So much going on it’s turning me negative! After watching our coach doing a coaching session that I needed an interpreter I’m worried. ___ Really? That's pretty bad. Let's face it. The club has appointed a dud manager. Nothing from his career history suggests the guy is anything other than a complete loser of a manager at the elite level. And combined with 'guru Tim' really doing a number on us by signing a load of duds, the only logical conclusion is thus: relegation battle ahead."

"I don't see these types of deals as a 'waste of time'. I think if there are young players abroad that we can get then, if it is felt there is the potential, then we go for it. However, it does annoy me when an 18 year old kid signed to Paris FC who has not yet played for their first team is described as a 'prodigy'. Let me tell you, if he was a prodigy and was an absolute gem he would already be at PSG or Madrid."

"Agree on Potts, a rare successful loan for us, yet he comes back and can't even get on the bench, so what the hell is the point? These youngsters need to be a combination of Maradona and Ruud Guillit to get into the first team, and let's be honest this new bloke ain't gonna give the youngsters anymore of a chance than Moyes did, so I expect him to get the same amount of stick from the likes of daveyg that Moyes got."

"Alf - Well I did over react (got out of bed the wrong side, lol) but yes when has one of these types ever worked out. Happy to be proved wrong, but my money says this kid will never play for the first time and in around two years someone on here (if WHO is still around) will say what happened to that French kid. Nailed on."

"Good point Manuel. Some will think its being a bit negative but I couldn’t think of a player in recent years who was bought at that age and “developed” to be a successful first team option. Last player in that category might be Defoe? Wasnt he nabbed from Charlton at 17 or 18 years old? Some might say “what about Rice” but he was 14 wasnt he when he was rejected from the Chelsea academy? At a later age you would, as you are suggesting, think they would be ahead of their age group and be ready for first team squad inclusion? Lets hope this one proves us wrong. But on a similar subject, and we wont know until this season is over, and Im guessing Loppy has little time to bed in younger players with only a 2 year contract ( results are all that matters) , Im a bit disappointed that Potts hasnt had a look in yet since looking very decent in the first couple of pre season games. Ok he was Wycombe player of the season only in Div 1 but its senior football and his energy, tenacity and excellent passing etc I thought he might get a few minutes against Palace in preeeason and Celta Vigo and even Villa if he had continued to impress. But he was kinda ditched once Soucek, Paqueta etc returned. Probably my conscious and unconscious bias wanting a proper West Ham developed youngster and link to the past ( his dad )to be part of this season :-). And its early days as stated, so lets hope he gets minutes in the cup games. I thought he showed enough to suggest he could make it even in the Prem and his development will risk being “stunted” if he sits on the bench all season. Another loan may well be a better option if Loppy is going to take the Moyes approach and go for “experience and reputation” exclusively. Potts can move a lot faster and pass a lot better than Soucek even JWP but we shall see"

"No doubt this French kid will just go the same way as the Portugese CB we signed a few years back and many others. Has even one of these type of signings ever worked out? I can't think of any. If he's that good then 18 is old enough, but he's being signed as an academy player? Waste of fucking time."

"I did say that Soler was better than Noble but he is definitely wasted as an anchorman which ironically is what happened to Noble for most of his time here. Noble should never have played deep - he was always better further forward - not as an out and out attacking midfielder nor too deep. Somebody who roamed between the lines anticipating passes, breaking up the play and good at the odd through ball. Soler loves Valencia, he was born there, supported the team and came through their youth academy - he very reluctantly left for PSG because Valencia are a financial basket case of a football club. He was definitely a contender for one club man material. As it is he is a good player - much better than Fornals too. Doesn't smile as much as Pablito but a much better player."

"C&H West Ham Wonderkid Commits His Future to The Hammers West Ham academy star Lewis Orford has signed a new long-term contract with the club following a successful round of negotiations. This news is a significant boost for everyone at West Ham and for Orford himself, who comes from a family of Hammers fans. At one point, the deal seemed precarious, with Aston Villa reportedly requesting Orford to be included in the proposed transfer of Jhon Duran to the London Stadium. This five year contract marks the end of an excellent summer for the skilful midfielder, who successfully captained England U18s before featuring prominently under Julen Lopetegui during West Ham’s pre-season. Orford has enjoyed a outstanding couple of years in which he has lifted the FA Youth Cup as part of the Hammers under 18 team. It’s understood that both Mark Noble and West Ham’s Director of Football, Tim Steidten, played key roles in the negotiations, ensuring Orford signed on the dotted line."

Pace in the middle of the park isn't important. If others in other areas have it . Namely the wide players and striker . In 85/86 nobody could claim dickens pike and Orr were quick ..I watched us v man utd in February 86 at home in the league game .The pace of mcavennie and cottee was ridiculous especially FM . He was even quicker than any premier League striker now
