"Sport Witness West Ham ‘close to an agreement’ for signing – ‘Coming hours’ crucial after significant progress By Sean Lunt West Ham United are ‘close to an agreement’ with Paris Saint Germain for Carlos Soler and a deal could be done ‘in the coming hours’. That’s according to Le Parisien, who report that a deal would be done for around €23m with bonuses included. The newspaper reports that after two years with the French side, Soler is about to leave the Ligue 1 champions as he’s ‘about to join West Ham’. PSG and the Hammers are getting closer to an agreement for the midfielder, worth around €23m including bonuses. There are final details that need to be resolved but significant progress has been made in negotiations today. Soler still has to reach an agreement with West Ham, where he could sign a four-year deal. Julen Lopetegui is ‘greatly involved’ in the transfer process. PSG director of football Luis Campos is determined to secure a permanent exit for the midfielder and not a loan with an option to buy. That suits them better as they’d not lose money on a player who cost them €22m in 2022. A deal is now progressing and West Ham are closing in on their latest signing of what has been an extremely busy summer of incomings."

Aguerd fucked up by getting injured and not playing then disappearing off to the world cup. It was alleged he was fit but didnt want to risk another injury.

"I'd bin Aguerd off if possible, keep Mavro. I dont like Aguerd's attitude, think he's a bit of snidey cսnt on the quiet. Classic Moyes waste of money too. Mavro is very decent backup, can play a bit too. Nothing wrong with Mavro. Not many left sided CBs around to replace Aguerd though, probably how we ended up paying over the odds for Kilman."

"Good luck to Greaves, better for him to be playing every week for Ipswich than sitting on our bench I suppose. We can always pick him up for twice as much if / when Ipswich get relegated I guess."

Manuel 1:55 Thu Aug 22 And I'd lay money Greaves won't directly contribute to 4 goals for the opposition through OGs and gaffes this season

"Guardian West Ham are still in the market for a centre-back, with Victor Nelsson a potential target. The Denmark international, who plays his club football for Galatasaray, is also wanted by Sevilla, Lille and Bologna. It is thought a deal could be done for a fee in the region of £12m but the Hammers are reliant on sales at the moment to generate income."

Greaves looked like a no brainer at that price. Will be interesting to observe his progress this season

... would have made some sense (to let Mavro go) if we had got a decent young CB prospect in but we let the two that we had interest in (Greaves and Edwards) go elsewhere.

"Unless he has thrown his toys out it seems odd to be selling Mavro. He played well last weekend and personally I think he is better than Aguerd, who apparently doesn't want to be here. If we are happy to bring Casey in as back up then fair enough but if it would involve getting someone else in then seems a backward step."

"Fullkrug was an insane signing. Signing a 31 year old slow, plodding forward was bad enough. Blowing £27 million on the geezer is next level stupidity. Yet so many of our more moronic supporters buy fully into this 'guru Tim' narrative. Wake up, sheep!"

Fullkrug makes more sense as a Lopetegui pick as he's always preferred pumping crosses in to that kind of target man. Trouble is that neither of our 1st choice full backs are good at crossing and our wingers prefer to try to score rather than create chances. Doesn't seem like enough cohesion in the squad.

"I'm worried the Fullkrug transfer has disaster written all over it. And he's here until he's 35 years also. You'd have thought we'd have learnt a lesson with the Ings transfer, but apparently not. I wished I hadn't found out he's one of Tim's MATES as well."

"I don't think COYI wants us to fail so he can do an I told you so. He's already getting all the attention he obviously craves so it probably don't matter to him. If Lopetegui does OK then he'll just switch to some other whipping boy, unless people just learn to ignore him."

"We didn't lay out £25 million on Guilherme, it's mainly performance add ons,, if he's very successful we will pay that if he isn't it won't be much more than the 5-6 million we've paid at the moment for an exciting prospect... Which is a great bit of business by the club. Kilman is overpriced I agree and Fullkrug appears to be the wrong profile, but let's not be desperate for them to fail so you can say you called it as you're so desperate to do eh"

"Yes, I agree that laying our £40 million for a bang average centre half who hasn't even been capped by his country is insane. As was laying out £27 milliion for a plodding 31 year old centre forward who has never played outside of Germany when we all know we needed pace up front. As was laying out £20 million for an 18 year old Brazilian kid who didn't even get on the bench last weekend. As was adding a slow, plodding lightweight 30 year oldc midfielder to a midfield that was already slow, old and plodding. The transfer window has been an unmitigated disaster thanks to 'guru Tim'. Relegation battle ahead."

"Looking like a few will finally go out. Suspect one of Stavros or Aguerd will go, one of Soucek/JWP, Cornet possibly to Turkey, and still think Ings will go. Apparently Zouma is still in the desert waiting. AOI - I think the three defenders will be decent enough, but have concerns over Summerville and Fullkrug and don't fancy Rodriguez much. The thing is the PL is a different animal to other leagues and you can be found wanting as we have seen with the likes of Aguered, Dinos, and Scamacca and Haller, but yea I know Moyes kopped the blame with the latter two and maybe that is true, but maybe not."

"I still can’t believe we paid £40 million on a fucking centre half. I have a nasty suspicion that this transfer window isn’t going to be quite as good as a lot of wankers on here are claiming. Also, I’d be a lot happier if there were one or two other English players joining us. Still pissed off that Downes was flogged off."

"Imo selling Stavros and keeping Agurrd weakens the squad but if it means he goes because he is much more sellable and that means we can actually strengthen midfield then I suppose it has to be done. Shame as there is a player in the Greek. Thought he was as good as Kilman against Villa and even thiugh he made a few ricketts in some games last season, he also had a good run of solid games under Moyes before getting injured at the end of the season. But the legacy or damage of Moyes recruiting is coming home to roost now. We cant give away a lot of his favourites which we need to in order to complete the new recruitment and address the abysmally shallow squad he left. Imo as always :-)"

The trouble with Spain is they are still largely stuck with dubbing on their Film and TV which isn't great when it comes to picking up the syntax of another language. Italy are the same. Portugal and Greece use subtitles and I find they generally have a better grasp of foreign languages. Take it from an Anglo- Spaniard with a bit of Portuguese thrown in to the mix!

Alan 3:45 If the Greek disappears I assume Aguerd will stay. Otherwise there will be no cover for our two first choice CBs unless we buy or loan another to stick on the bench. Doesn’t give us much time to settle this problem before the window closes next week.
