Guillerme should've stayed where he was.

"Ludo - Agree, thought the same. There are so many good players now playing for say the mid to lower half sides that before if say Fulham were playing Forest you might think fuck watching that, but now it will probably be a game of high quality. As you say should be a really good season."

IMO Andre to Wolves and Ferdi Kadıoğlu to Brighton are potentially the best two signings of the window…. would have loved both of those here. Just goes to show the depth of the Premier League. Should be an exciting season.

Manuel - couldn’t agree more. Andre looks like as real player and 21m is a steal.

"A quick trawl through Twitter tells me that Ings to Leeds, Burnley, Everton or Forest is a possibility…. obviously as long as we are paying a big chunk of his wages which serves us right for offering them to him in the first place. Guilherme didn’t get a look in last night and I can’t see him getting much game time in the near future… what about offering him on loan to Leeds. Seems like the sort of player they would utilise?"

"Nagel 9:03 Tue Aug 27 Fair enough, Nagel. Now that you mention it, I don't remember seeing him take a whole lot of free kicks. There will be some stiff competition for the 10 spot particularly if Soler comes in."

"It’s interesting that when at a club like ours, players are “bench warming” if they don’t start every week. But those players are prepared to do the exact same thing at Man City/liverpool/Arsenal etc I think it’s all bs about playing time. players are human and are about money, status and the maybe a bit of football. They also have lives outside football so if they’re kids and wife are settled in the area and they’re making 100 bags a week I don’t see how they will just leave a club cos they’re not playing every week. I actually think for 90% of footballers esp after a certain age, it’s a well paying job. I’d be surprised if they loved the game as much as they did when they were kids. And also the training you have to do to keep up must be tedious for most of them. the only reason I see them wanting to play week on week is so that they have a profile and can get a good last contract when they are 33+ .but that’s about it really."

"Although we ideally get a quick you ger striker option, I still think central midfield is the priority. Alternative to Paqueta when he gets wasteful / caught in possession, injured or banned , so someone who can create but also act as the player who everything goes thru. Soler sounds like that player although obviously no guarantee he can cut it in the Prem. But in all the games since Loppy has been here ( including pre season ) we have looked open and too easily overrun in the middle and struggling still, at times, to keep it. Having Soucek and JWP in there didnt help and not having Alvarez to plug the base of the midfield also a miss. But we need a player like Macallister at Liverpool, who is creative but also helps with pressing and so good in the ball. All as usual IMO :-). Paqueta can be a genius some games but a liability if pressed and we need alternatives. Getting our midfield as strong as posdible as a squad is key. Its where most games are won imo"

"Thought I might have seen that LT. Ok, so if Summerville is homegrown, that's 9 But if we got rid of both Ings and Ward-Prowse and signed Soler, we'd be restricted to a squad of 24 unless the new striker was homegrown or under 21?"

To be homegrown a player has to complete three years before turning 21. Summerville turned 21 on 30 October 2022. He joined Leeds on 16 September 2020. Not homegrown...

onsideman 10:47 Wed Aug 28 Having 8 home grown isn't the most relevant thing. The limit is on having 17 foreigners over 21. We currently have 17 including Summerville. But if we got rid of Ings or JWP we could still get an U21 player like Jhon Duran in rather than an 8th home grown. We're also likely to get rid of Zouma one way or the other.

"Brighton have had a great window but I see that O’Reilly was injured last night, not sure how bad. The Turkish full back is an excellent player and could prove to be the signing of the window… would have loved to have got him. If their new manager is as good as he is portrayed they will be challenging for European places this season."

"Yes, very quiet. Is it West Ham's newly acquired stealth approach or has everything just stalled because we can't shift anyone? Did someone say Summerville counts as homegrown? Even if he is I don't think we can afford to shift both of Ings and Ward-Prowse without another homegrown coming in. If he isn't I think we're at eight with those two, aren't we?"

"It's all gone very quiet now, only three days left to get rid of players and hopefully bring two more in. I see Brighton have signed the Turkish full back and Man Utd talking to Chelsea about Sterling."

Seems Zouma has “passed” his medical. According to this site? https://www.westhamzone.com/transfers/kurt-zouma-passes-medical-to-exit-west-ham-united/ I thought it was Wednesday so all a bit odd. Medical could not have been very stringent. Arabs using their famed Dr Mustafa Leak ?

"kylay 7:10 Tue Aug 27 As with all stats it depends how you look at it. Last season JWP actually scored more from open play than any time in his career. Even though JWP has one of the best direct free kick scoring records in history, he has a very limited range and only ever scores them in a 10 yard space between the centre and the left side of the penalty box. I was always surprised that Moyes, being so pragmatic, didn't make more of his free kick abilities by getting our attackers to look for fouls in that sweet spot. As it was he only had a handful of chances that he was at all likely to convert. I mentioned at the time he was bought that a lot of Southampton fans thought he didn't bring much to the table when played deeper and tended to just pass and move sideways like a crab, but was better when played in a more advanced role. I think we saw the same ourselves last year. Personally I'd prefer to see him play that 10 role than Soucek, although I'd be happy for both to be replaced."

"dealcanvey 10:34 Tue Aug 27 had his worst goals tally in 5 years for us last year in what should ostensibly have been the best team he played. plus he had quite a few extra games in Europe. I don't even think he was taking corners for us toward the end of last season, and did he score any from a set piece? As limited as he is in the field, I don't think he's worth the price of admission."
