"Just seen that Aguerd has joined Real Sociedad on loan. Good news, but we are down to just 3 CB's now?"

"So Ings rejected a few moves just to sit around for a season with his mates? Useless, bald headed cսnt. No surprise that we didn't get a single cent for our shit, what a fucking joke, but nobody gets held accountable? What will Aguerd do? Looks like Orford is staying or is the loan window extended? 6/10 window for me. Two good defenders, not convinced with the others. So a mid table season watching Antonio and Soucek lumbering around, but let's see what Soler can do. Yea, I'm pissed off."

Andy Brassell just said on Sky that Soler will be a terrific signing for us. Really waxed lyrical about him.

"I think Soucek brings more to the table than JWP. Same number of goals and yes fewer assists, but I feel like Soucek has a tendency to show up when we really needed something as opposed to JWP. From open play, they are both fairly anonymous most of the time, but Soucek has the edge defensively. The corners and free kicks fell off too much toward the latter half of last season. Still hoping Soucek is mostly a bench option. I'll also echo what others have said and see this as more an effort to get us into more-than-the sum-of-our-parts shape."

"Celtic and Brendan Rodgers are keen to add another body to their engine room before the impending transfer deadline and, according to Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph, they are eyeing a loan move for West Ham United’s Andy Irving."

Jaan Kenbrovin 7:30 Fri Aug 30 So if you're starting JWP (which you're obviously advocating) what's your preferred line up? I'm hoping our goals come from elsewhere

"fraser 7:34 Fri Aug 30 JWP was our best passer of the ball last season, with more key passes per game than anyone. The main reason to sign Soler will be for goals and assists. Just don’t understand the like for like nature of the deals, which see’s us write off another expensive signing who suits a passing game far more than Soucek."

Anything that breaks the ward prowse _ soucek axis is clearly a step forward. I'm shocked it's JWP that's off . but clearly TS has fans . Conte is another I'm amazed he went for mctominay instead of TS . Would be way cheaper as well .

"Soler doesn't have to improve on that, he has to improve us getting up the pitch and getting our forwards involved more in advanced positions which JWP was fucking shit at. The odd forward pass and dribbling around a player will be an immediate improvement."

"I really don’t understand loaning JWP out. He had 7 goals and 7 assists last season. Not sure Soler is going to improve on that, so it seems idiotic business to write off yet another 30m plus player. Tbh I don’t really understand the entire window. I think the AWB and Todibo signings are good signings, but the rest are either poor value for money or I don’t think they’ll make a difference, especially towards the style of play everyone talked up. Just hope we have a couple more obvious first choices in another creative midfielder and a striker, otherwise I expect it’s going to be another season of boring disappointing football."

"When we were scrapping to get back into games, JWP went missing. A few assists from corners but not one trademark free kick throughout the season to surpass Beckham. There are others who can stick a ball on to Souchek’s head. Good luck to JWP but just not figuring as part of new manager’s plans."

Soler will be souceks replacement. Of course there's no guarantee he'll hit the ground running. But he's clearly a good player . Have Spain ever failed to produce a midfielder not capable of doing well in the premier League. Even little Pablo was seriously good until Moyes ruined his confidence.

"Stats never tell the full story. Moyes’ approach to football is like NFL. He just had “specialists” for specific moments in the game. But didnt really care about anything else. If you think about the concept of “total football” the idea is that every player is capable on the ball and can therefore everything is more fluid. I think the priority for our team is getting actual ballers on the ball. That just unlocks everyone else’s potential. You can see it with Kilman the other day. A defender thats an actual baller driving through midfield, not looking out of place and creates the goal. To me rather than losing goals/assists from JWP you unlock the potential of all the front players. The pace of the front player suddenly stops being an issue as your link up players can hold the ball further up the pitch. Now Ings is worth it, Fulkreg is worth it etc.. The whole thing about West Ham is that we’ve never had a decent midfield game. We lost the real Lanzini to injury and no one else has been any good. Rice isnt that type of player either. Paq loses the ball too much etc. Fingers crossed for Soler!"

"We’ve been saying it for 2 years Miike. I got obsessed almost about it :-). Getting headers or a last ditch tackle in defence or the odd goal ( he scores one of 5 chances on average or perhaps less tbh ) does not compensate for being anonymous in midfield / build up play. The cost of the latter far outweighs his positive moments over a season. Similar with JWP. His positive set piece contributions go nowhere near the weakness to the team he causes by being unable to press, move and pass thru the midfield to keep possession, connect with the forwards ( you got to keep it and have everyone moving and passing at speed ) and regaining the ball asap if we lose it etc. Playimg the pair in midfield was suicide defensively too as we found out last season as we were serially overrrun and exposed at the back. I have never heard anyone articulate a conpelling case for starting Soucek and JWP every game especially over a season. Yes they can have positive impacts ( goals or a Soucek defensive, last ditch tackle or header) but people seem to be myopic in their thinking? The “score board fan” who sees a positive result or goal and disregards the performance of a player or team overall for the long term. Take our form before xmas last season and so far, albeit 2 games and pre season, this season too. Yes we won games but it was with a lot of things going our way and obvious it was not sustainable. What unfortunately looks like happening is a run of defeats forcing Loppy to drop Soucek. :-("

"For me it's simple (as it was with Pablo and Benny) do I want to see JWP lining up for us on a Saturday afternoon or coming off the bench? The answer is NO. I'll take me chances how the rest all falls into place, ta."
