NFL (since 2016)

"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

"Yet another embarrassing Jets loss to the Patsies - and, predictably and thankfully, it ends with the sacking of Todd Bowles. He was never a good choice as head coach. He was a defensive co-ordinator masquerading as a head coach. Bowles is a really nice guy - a dignified man in an often undignified sport - but he had no clue how to run an offense and he lacked the ability to inspire or galvanise his players. I hope he goes back to being a DC and does well somewhere because I like him as a person. But he's not HC material yet - not by a long stretch. Meanwhile, whoever takes over as head coach will inherit the weakest roster in the NFL. That said, that weakness is also the great strength of the vacant role, because it presents the perfect opportunity to start again with very few obstacles to clearing house - yet with an excellent young quaterback already in place (Darnold). Whoever wants the job gets... a) Darnold at QB and Jamal Adams at SS b) #3 draft pick c) Extra draft picks in round 3 due to the Bridgewater deal etc. d) $100m worth of salary cap space e) Low expectations as a starting point f) One of the biggest and most loyal fan bases in the NFL g) A luxury apartment in Gotham! Bizarrely, despite being utterly hopeless all year, I think this makes the Jets an attractive proposition to the right coach. But that's just it - we need to appoint the right (offensively-minded) coach: not another DC specialist like Rex Ryan and certainly not another Todd Bowles."

"Great to get HFA, which can hopefully mitigate our garbage secondary. Mahomes must surely be the MVP - if Brees wins it, it's become a lifetime achievement award."

"Matt Prater throws a TD on a fake field goal against the Packers. Love this year's creative play calling, the Green Bay crowd didn't though."

"I know the AFC is more open, but I really don't know much about it. The NFC, on the other hand, has a lot of things locked down, with a few interesting games this weekend. Rams need to beat 49ers to guarantee a bye. Chicago will be playing to catch them and take it via the tie break. This is bad news for the Vikings, who they play, because Minnesota need to win to guarantee a play-off spot. The Eagles can take their current last spot if they beat Washington, who just went out. On the upside, the Vikings can catch the Seahawks and avoid playing Bears again in the wildcard, if Seattle loses. Personally I would like the Bears to stay the 3 seed and Seattle lose and the Vikings win. That would leave the Seahawks and Bears to beat each other up and maybe Minnesota could beat the Cowboys. As a Saints fan with still question about offensive line injuries, the big defences are the most scary. Would love to face the Vikings or Rams again."

GREAT Hawks win! Into the postseason. A high-scoring Hawks/Chiefs match up also did my fantasy team no harm ;-)

"I could have run it sanfran, was utterly shit and we may have still lost, but he needs to sort out shit like that where getting out of bounds too with the east 1st down would have been perfect instead of a hail mary. And he may lose, but Antonio Brown really is something else. Incredible receiver."

"Crystal, Yep, we'll end up with a top-five pick, although there is talk of trading it away and trying to amass a late first-rounder and several second and third rounders this year. We desperately need to protect Darnold and get him a primary target. I'd go for established linemen in free agency and a talented WR in the draft. We've got huge cap room, so 2019 will be the time to spend it."

"Fecking Jets lost again - albeit in overtime - after leading comfortably and then getting conservative when trying to protect a lead. Lost track of how many times Todd Bowles has done that as head coach. Thankfully, he's out at the end of the season. Really nice guy, good defensive coach - useless offensive mind, and awful when his teams are in front. The big plus is that Sam Darnold looked excellent at QB for Gang Green - again. There's definitely a huge amount of talent in there. He just needs a good offensive mind in charge - so McCarthy might well be the guy to take over from Bowles (now that the NFL-based Harbaugh has committed to the Ravens for 2019). Darnold is keeping the Jets in games they have no right to be in. They have no real weapons on offense. No standout receiver and no offensive line. Although Chris Herndon at tight end is developing really well. Put Darnold behind a decent o-line and find a stand-out receiver - and things could get interesting in New York just as Brady is thinking about retiring from the AFC east."

Assuming the bears can get past the 49ers today they'll still have a chance to get the 2 seed as they have the head to head tiebreaker against the rams
