NFL (since 2016)

"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

"I agree to an extent although I think there's a difference between players like a RB who downs tools and takes the hit in wages that comes with it, and a CB who tiptoes along the contractual line so that they don't play and yet still get paid. the NFL has those contracts massively weighted in their favour so I've got no problem with a RB preserving his body while on a rookie contract, so that he's in a position to earn a decent second contract. Don't forget that the teams aren't shy about cutting players whenever it suits them."

I dont like this current trend of players forcing their way out of places just going to make it even harder for the lesser teams to try and build something if one of the few stars that they have decides they're just going to down tools and refuse to play in order to secure a deal to a more fashionable team.

"Rams making desperate moves after the beat down, Giving up two first rounders is a lot, especially when their biggest problem is on offense. They need a QB and better O Line play if they want to compete with the Niners."

"Marshon struggled a bit at the beginning of both of his two seasons beyond his rookie one but it was shorter this year. The Saints play the run so much, they leave him on an island against the best receiver, lately he has won that battle."

"Ramsey is certainly billed as the best corner in football but i think a lot of that has to do with how loud and outspoken he is, yes he is obviously very good and is in the top tier of CBs but id take Gilmore and Lattimore of the saints over him for certain if only because they seem to be far better team mates. Gilmore was the highest rated cornerback int he league last year as the Patriots won the superbowl and has been completely shutdown so far this season in his coverage"

"Yep, spot on. They are 100% committed to Ramsey when his contract is up at the end of the season because of what they've spent in terms of draft picks. It's a huge risk. He's going to want the Earth for his services and they are going to have to give it to him. I'm guessing he has signed something which ties him into some sort of commitment - hence the franchise was happy to spend so much. He's a very good corner. But is he the best? He's certainly going to become the highest paid. These gold-plated deals are potentially crippling for any franchise - but the Rams are tied into a few of them now. The Jets have just one that they have hugely over-spent on: Le'veon Bell. He's a fine running back, but we've spent far too much to land him. And it won't make a blind bit of difference just yet because the O-line is so poor that he's struggling to find yardage."

"The Ram's have a pretty young roster but have given out alot of big contracts to their stars which will start to cripple them in the years to come especially the ridiculous contract they gave Goff! Ramsey is in the last year of his Rookie deal so he's relatively cheap for this season but he'll demand to be the highest paid corner in the league fairly soon and he's essentially got the Rams over a barrel as he can hit free agency next year and they're not going to let a guy they spent 2 first round picks on leave. Rams are a very top heavy team with some legitimate stars but doesnt seem like they have any depth at all, which is understandable as such a huge portion of their salary cap is probably going to a very small number of the roster"

"Ramsey is an interesting one but probably needed, to try and compete again this year, having lost their 2 starting corners from the Super Bowl. Trading away 2 first round picks says he wants it now, I don't know their roster than well, is the rest of the team that old?"

"Oh, I'm sure he got that! He sounds like he knows his way around the complex rule book on the salary cap and related issues - the Jets could do with somebody like that. We're a bit of a blunt message when it comes to those things."

"They paid the NFL half a billion to relocate to Los Angeles - and all the press coverage focused on those costs. But, naturally, Snead would have wanted something generous in return..."

"Yep, he's a proper wheeler-dealer. But it might not be ""magic""! My guess is that he is a fecking good negotiator and has found some, ahem, ""creative space"" in the relocation packages. I don't doubt that he's done it by the rule book - but knowing Snead he has carved out a decent temporary deal."

"If I was to hazard a guess, and it is just that, then I'd be taking a peek at the deal that the NFL struck with the Rams to allow the move back to LA. My instinct tells me that there were some very generous concessions made to staff in terms of relocation and related costs in order to get the team to the west coast. I'm quite convinced that there has been some canny cost shunting somewhere in that franchise."

"Think this is the last year of Goff's ""underpayment"" on his initial contract. He's signed-up to some big rises from 2020. So the cap issue is just going to get tougher from the Rams - it might be a case of now or never for them."

"I'm amazed that the Rams have met the salary cap in the last two seasons. They've had to wheel and deal a few times, trading away players for picks in order to meet the cap. But the whole thing still smacks of some creative accounting somewhere down the line. My guess is that a few of them are getting some generous non-salary benefits, which is risky."

"Ramsey is going to demand to be made the highest paid corner int he league very shortly too, id assume that means the likes of Talib, Peters, Fowler, Matthews Whitworth etc will not be there next year. You can't build a team with a few highly paid superstars and nothing around them."

"Another very combustible personality added to that team, hope they dont keep losing or little McVay could lose the whole locker room. Also i have no idea how they are paying all these players, Gurley, Cooks, Goffe, Donald, Talib, Fowler, Whitworth are all among the highest paid in their positions, Must have zero depth in case of injuries."
