NFL (since 2016)
"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

"They have a high end defence, a very good Oline, and the best receiving group in the league by some distance, to go with Gronk and OJ Howard. Might just be the favourite in the NFC"

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Crystal - I suspect you're right: he will be in demand (although I'm not sure how many teams will part company with their coaches on Black Monday). The only 'attraction' the Jets will offer is that it is New York - and a huge NFL market - and, providing the owners finally agree, a new HC might (just might) be given the opportunity to undertake a root-and-branch reform of the franchise on the playing/coaching side. If I were the owners, I'd be offering the very best candidate a blank canvas. But one of the reasons we're in such deep shit is because the owners have consistently made terrible decisions and haven't had a clue what they are doing. So we mighgt be scraping the barrel, again, when it comes to a new head coach."

"I think Bienemy will end up with much more attractive offers than the Jets. Unless they do end up with the first pick and he cant turn down working woth Lawrence. In other new Ngakoue who was a very good pass rusher the last few seasons, has been traded to the Ravens less than 60 days after the Vikings traded for him. Vikings giving up on the season"

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"I should add that I'm not saying a college-only head coach can't make the leap across to being a successful NFL head coach. It can be done, but it is still quite rare. For every Kliff Kingsbury at Arizona, there are two or three Chip Kelly-style failures at the likes of the Eagles. Given the scale of the needs at the Jets, taking on a college coach would be a huge risk. Some might say the coach would have nothing to lose. But we're fed up losing!"

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Sure - you're never going to be able to exactly replicate what the Chiefs, or any other successful franchise, has done. Especially since Reid is, and has been for a very long time, a thorough and very fine coach. But if you're a losing franchise, on and off the field, like the Jets have been for 20 years under these owners (with the exception of two play-off years under Rex Ryan and Darelle Revis's defensive excellence), then you need to import a successful NFL culture into the franchise. Because it doesn't exist in New Jersey right now. Everything at the Jets is rotten and failing: the ownership, the GM role (Douglas is new-ish and seems OK) and across the key coaching roles and into the playing staff. The Jets need to rebuild a successful NFL culture and, to do that, they need some gnarled NFL experience of a winning culture - such as Bieniemy coming in from the Chiefs or (heaven forbid) McDaniels coming down from New England (not going to happen!). Bringing in a college-only head coach, with no experience of professional football or coaching players older than 21, is not going to rebuild the Jets. Not with the scale and scope of the rebuidling job that needs doing. Most college coaches wouldn't know where to start."
Re: NFL (since 2016)
"The thing with the Chiefs is that they had they had the bedrock of a decent team to start with. Alex Smith was a dull QB but they had a decent defence and O-Line, Kelce, an Ok running game and the likes of Tyreek Hill on special teams returning. It was a brilliant plan as the season they drafted Mahomes Alex Smith was still doing doing the game his game management thing while Andy Reid was planning the air raid for the following season. Can't see the Jets doing anything like that."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Having looked around at potential (long-term) replacements for Gase as HC of the Jets once they sack him, I'd be going all in for Eric Bieniemy (Kansas OC) if I were the Jets' GM and owner. Long-time student of Andy Reid, knows what a successful NFL culture looks and feels like (unlike the successful college-only head coaches being mentioned), talks amazingly eloquently and clearly about the game (there's no way players would not know what is required of them - the guy is no-nonsense, yet bright) and knows his own mind. You just get the impression that Bieniemy is very capable. No wonder the Kansas offence has thrived under him as OC and Reid as HC. His contract in Kansas is up at the end of this season and it is surely only a matter of time before he gets a shot at a HC role. You can never quite tell who will be a successful HC until they are in the role. But I like the sound of this fella. Supposed expert pundits are talking about Matt Campbell at Iowa State for the Jets, but I think the root-and-branch overhaul required at the franchise necessitates deeper NFL experience. Campbell has been extremely successful at college level - but it's a very different sport at 'youth' level. We need a gnarly fucker who knows his way around the NFL, but who has fresh ideas coming out of a successful coaching school. Campbell looks and sounds like many modern-day college coaches - all soundbites, yelling and paternalistic lectures. That works for naive-but-hungry 20 year-old college players. Not sure that gets the best out of millionnaire 28 year-old lineman who have been playing professionally for years and would eat naivety for breakfast."
Re: NFL (since 2016)
Hermit Road 11:49 Thu Oct 22 I am pretty certain that he'll end up on the list of CTE casualties. That hit he took from Vontaze Burfict was the culmination of all the hits he had taken before and where his weird behaviour really kicked off.

Sorry i just accidentally rejected that trade. Will you be online later? Would ideally like to wait and see if sanders is actually inactive.

"Ok, a one match loan would be interesting. How about Scott for Odell B, if you're not using him this week?"
