NFL (since 2016)
"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

"You could offer the Jets' players a BountyGate-style incentive to injure opponents right now, and we wouldn't even cross their shadows! Mind you, it has given me an idea: maybe Gregg Williams could offer a back-hander to injure Gase?"

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Well, in fairness, the man most responsible for BountyGate was Saints then-DC, Gregg Williams, who is now failing to rip up many trees at...the New York Jets. Mind you, any coach would fail under The Idiot Gase and that ownership, so Williams can probably be excused the shite taking place in Gotham right now."

"Mr. Burns 12:53 Tue Nov 3 Saints have had their issues. They are from New Orleans what do you expect. Fun to team to follow. But a bit glass houses there, all things considering don't you think?"
Re: NFL (since 2016)
"The Saints are filth, always up to something. After all Payton oversaw the bounty scandal. Horrible team."

"IoC, Yeah, seems like it went on for a while before the punches were thrown. Sledgling goes on all the time, of course, but those two seemed to really rile each other! I just wish the punches had been a bit more impressive. If you're going to get a long ban, you might as well go out in style! Hard, though, because of the helmets!"

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Continuing saga of Wims vs. CJ Gardner-Johnson. Apparently Gardner-Johnson grabbed Wims' mouthpiece and throws it on the ground, while they were jawing at the beginning of the 2nd half. A few minutes later on a different drive, Wims tries to do the same and then sort of punches CJGJ a couple times. Cue the brawl. Wims has also accused CJGJ of spitting at him, so far there is not evidence of that. The spat (as it were) has continued on social media."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"I think it's several things... a) They've given up on yet another season, know that Gase is going at this point, but want to tank to get the top pick. The appeal of Lawrence, or a mega-trade, gives them a better chance of bringing in a decent coach at the end of the season. b) There aren't any decent HCs available at the moment - so no point changing mid-set. And I think it's clear that that won't give the job, longer-term to Gregg Williams (DC) so I guess they feel there is no point in handing him the interim post just yet. c) The board is utter shite. But there is even less confidence in the current 'acting' owner, Chris Johnson while the supposed 'real' owner, Woody Johnson, is currently serving as Trump's UK ambassador. Of course, after next week, Woody's boss might well change - and I doubt Biden will want Woody to keep that post. So Woody Johnson may well be back at the Jets sooner than he thought. He's almost as bad as his brother, though, so his return will hardly be celebrated!"

"sbb, what is the rationale of the Jets owners persisting with Adam GASH? Is it tanking for a top draft pick or something else?"

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Exactly. But the Jets are like West Ham: in need of a root-and-branch overhaul starting from board-level down. The culture of the place is just about losing because that is all these owners have ever really known (with the exception of the two years Rex Ryan's defence dominated the AFC East: and that was primarily down to Revis being ridiculously good).

"Yeah, sadly you are right. It is painful watching an utter shit show when you look across the league and see that actually it IS possible to go from last place to a contender in not such a huge amount of time with decent leadership."

"Scorch, If it were any other franchise, I'd say that you're right. But this is the Jets. The word 'masterplan' is genuinely not in our lexicon."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
southbankbornnbred 11:45 It's a masterplan by Jets ownership to secure the number one draft pick :) You'd hope...

"Yeah, but that was his team-mate - and it was just a finger-poke. It seems a bit OTT, even for a 'roided-up NFL player. Mind you, we've seen worse things done for less, I guess!"

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Southband In the video there you can see the previous play where CJGJ pokes his finger underneath the facemask of Wim's teammate. That is what they think instigated it.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Hahahaha! I wouldn't mind - it's a crap punch. I guess he felt he had to hit him with an open-palm, otherwise punching a helmet would be plain stupid. So he sort of slapped him. Handbags. Did anyone get to the bottom of why Wims went after him? Seemed quite random and if it was just a response to sledging then he's even more of an idiot."

"Grumpster 1:30 Mon Nov 2 ""See the chicago fella throwing punches? Ha ha, nothing like punching a bloke wearing a crash helmet"" Forgot I was going to comment on this: CJGJ - Chauncey Gardner-Johnson or Ceedy Duce as he would like to be known, the guy that drew the punch is apparently amazing at winding people up. In this case he stuck his finger into another player's mouth the play before. He is the one that Michael Thomas sucker punched in practice and picked up a team suspension as a result. If only he was as good at covering receivers."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Trundle - I'm here to serve! The thing is, I'm running out of things to complain about with him now. He's so bad that we've more or less emptied the cupboard with ridicule at this stage of the season. All I find myself doing now is diffing out more stats which show just how atrocious he is. If he tried to tie his shoelaces, he'd tie his left foot to his right, fall over and then outsource shoelace-tying duties to his defensive co-ordinator for the remainder of his lifetime. IronsofCanada - you have nothing to complain about! (Although I think you're right) ;-)"

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Speaking of the woes of our teams - I know I really should not talk - I would switch defensive coordinators with most any team at this point. Pro Bowl/All Rookie team secondary that have digressed under ours.
