A few people would say Young was the better of the two. The numbers would back them up. I don't think I could judge as I wasn't even a teenager when Montana played for us. Both were outstanding. Montana is still well liked in Kansas for the 2 seasons he played for them getting them to the play offs both seasons for the first time in decades.

This was back in the days when you could sit two big-salaried QBs on your roster if you had enough money. And the 49ers, with the Cowboys, seemed to have pretty much all the money! They were golden days for the NFL, but the mad finances (centred on just a few very wealthy sides) do seem archaic nowadays. The comparisons with the Premier League are all too easy. Young was a damn good QB, though. He would have walked into most starting line-ups even when Montana was in his pomp."
