NFL (since 2016)
"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"I'll just take this opportunity to issue my annual reminder that the Jets passed on Pat Mahomes in the 2017 draft, and instead chose a safety (albeit a very good one) who quickly decided he wanted out of Gotham. The. Jets. Under. Woody. Johnson. The only saving grace is that Chicago, who picked #2 that year, also passed on Mahomes - and actually chose another QB instead: Mitchell Trubisky! We could also have drafted DeShaun Watson. But, highly talented though he is, giving him a wide berth was probably not a bad call..."

"Good work, that, Griff! Bet you had a superb time. Will you head out for the final, or back to Philly? Could be a classic."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"You don't think the manner in which (and even the fact that) both dressed QBs were injured wasn't unlucky? It's pretty rare, regardless of how the blocking is working out. Especially Purdy's injury. And it wasn't unlucky Bosa had a player hit him in the back of the leg and injure him while he was standing on the sideline? OK..."

"https://dailysnark.com/2023/01/29/49ers-dre-greenlaw-was-penalized-after-he-relentlessly-threw-punches-after-whistle/ https://commanderswire.usatoday.com/2023/01/30/former-washington-tackle-trent-williams-erred-sunday-in-philadelphia-eagles-san-francisco-49ers/ Yup , all perfectly normal behaviour. And the injuries weren't 'unlucky'. They'd be unlucky if they were muscle strains and the like. They were caused by the fact that - despite having had to listen to months of noise about how physical the 9ers are - they got absolutely demolished physically on both sides of the ball."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Yup agree. Not sure the Niners really behaved badly. No doubt a combination of horrific bad luck with injuries (not sure I've seen so bad in a game of such importance) and some big calls going against them in a huge game along with the opposition chirping is going to get the better of most players eventually and it got to Trent WIlliams but clearly he'll have been provoked. A shove out of bounds is hardly uncommon as well. Indeed it happened in the AFC game a little later too.
Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Get the tinted glassed off griff, the niners done nothing out of the ordinary wrong behaviour wise and the officials definitely didn't want them in the SB, so there isn't a love in. The odd out of bounds push was probably out of frustration at a couple of bad calls which both cost TD's, happens in all sport. Made no difference if the calls were made or not when there wasn't anyone who can throw a ball further than 3 yards anyway, but players don't see it that way."

"Mrs has four season tickets, sbbb, so flew in Friday and back tonight. She grew up in the 700 level at the Vet so she's quite earthy! Always good for a laugh. A lot like West Ham before it became sanitised. Never ceases to amaze me that people will rock up in their MONTANA jerseys and act all surprised when it kicks off."

"You seriously at Lincoln Field, Griff? Good trip, that, fella. The final could be a classic. If the Eagles can put their usual pressure on Mahomes, then his ankle might be a problem. His arm and accuracy under pressure is something else. Two really good sides."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Great night at the Linc. Not the result anyone at the league wanted which makes it even sweeter. The omissions of Sirianni from the coach of the year shortlist (just won 69-14 the last two weeks against two who are on there) and Haason Reddick from defensive player of the year are laughably stupid and the continued obsession with 'sexy' teams is becoming an embarrassment. Still, not as embarrassing as the 9ers behaviour in the second half of yet another Shanahan failure in a big game. Lost with all the class and good grace of Spurs on.a bad day. Been the best all round team in the league all season, just a question now whether we can stop mahomes and kelce. Best team against the best players, should be a good game."

"The Superbowl should be a good game - two well-matched sides, in theory. Mahomes is superb, even with ankle knack. Eagles look really solid all round. Going to get interesting."

"Christ, the 49ers we're going through QBs so quickly I thought Ken Dorsey was going to make a comeback. Easy pickings for a strong Eagles side."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
That was an absolute beat down. That Eagles pass rush is devastating and means that Purdy needs a new arm. You could say it's bad luck but Purdys arm didn't fuck itself up. One thing a lot of people didn't realise about the birds is that their offence can do everything. Take away the run and they'll pass you to death. Take away the pass and they'll run right through you.
Re: NFL (since 2016)
"Can't plan for having every single QB injured, as I doubt its happened very often in history. Unfortunately with one team having no functioning QB from the 5th minute onwards, made it a pretty boring game. Neither of these teams would beat the mobs in the other game even if fit I don't think."
