One of the first games I remember was the Liverpool v Leeds Cup Final in 1965.

Yeats, a massive thug, was captain of the victorious Liverpool team and full-back Gerry Byrne played almost the entire match, which went to extra time, with a broken collar bone. 

Different game, played by men in those days.

One of the originals at the start of the Shankley era, big bloke and proper old school captain.
