Lopetegui (sacked 8.1.2025)
I was thoroughly looking forward to the start of this season
Was also prepared that things might take some time and wasn't expecting miracles over night What I didn't expect was a manager who after spending 6 weeks with the total dross he'd been left by Moyes would deem them fit to start in a premier league game And low and behold all of them played absolute shit
We're now 1 game in and none of our new players are any closer to bedding in or learning anything from their new team mates cos they barely spent a second on the pitch, half of them not at all I think it's gonna take somewhere between 6-10 games before we see the team anyone with an ounce of sense would play cos this bloke can't identify shit when he see's it I thought we was handed a miracle at half time when we went in level and low and behold he changed nothing I'm sure people are gonna make excuses for him and say it's too early to judge
But from what I've just seen today, this cսnt is David Moyes in a mission impossible mask

Re: Lopetegui
Remember that under Grant we occasionally turned up, w even put 4 past Man U to book a Semi Final place but the overall trend was one of abject failure. We've all seen this before, we have to be bold, be brave and move early because other teams so will. For once we need to be first out of the gate.

No they haven't. You're just using a lot of words to make a load of excuses.
No one thought we were gonna win the league, and we all thought it'd take time to get properly going. However, we all watch football, and so far, regardless of how early, we've been fucking abysmal, through pre season till now. Not a single thing to be positive about.
He watched us for a year in prep for the job, he's been given the tools, has the experience, and has had 3 months to implement what he wants to do, on massive wages. So far, I think I heard we've conceded the most shots on our goal, and had the 2nd lowest shots on target in the league. Regardless of your raft of excuses, that is nowhere near good enough, and it needs to be called as it is.
Full Rug
I’ve called out what he’s done , by explaining where I think he’s gone wrong.
It’s going to take most coaches time, to rectify, 4/5 years of Moyesball, mate.

Fucking hell.
Do you seriously think Alonso will come to us?
Potter is not a bad shout, but he’ll be in a similar situation, like the one at Chelsea, whereby he hasn’t got the system fully up and running to accommodate him.
A lot of Potters success was down to the system Brighton have established.
We do have a DOF, so he might make a better fist of it. But, it’ll still take time and be difficult for him.
Lets try and not go all Tottenham, eh and start calling for coaches heads, first sign of trouble.
We used to take the piss out then for doing that, and now we’re acting just like them.
Give JL half a season at least. I’d still say that’s not a lot of time, but I understand , it’s the modern ‘money rules’ football world we live in.

Re: Lopetegui
Watched MOTD this morning & good analysis of our catastrophic defending:
Alvarez asked to man mark Jackson without the pace & physicality to do it
AWB positioned anywhere but right back leaving a gaping hole (goals 1 & 3)
Mavropanos incapable of sensing danger & shuffling across to assist
Manager is seriously under pressure & needs a complete rethink on structure & what the hell he is doing
Taking off Summerville after 54 mins when he was our biggest threat (& should have had a pen) just summed up his dismal day
He quite rightly said when a player (Rodriquez) is taken off before h/t it’s not the players fault it’s the managers.

You're not getting Alsono or Amorim, they're bigger than us a it until their stock falls. We've got to do something though because this is Grant 2.0

Re: Lopetegui
I think yesterday just highlighted even more, unfortunately, that this isn’t going to be easy moving from Moyesball to having a team that plays out from the back, has more possession and presses the other team.
A lot of people have fallen into the trap of listening to the media narrative of ‘West Ham have had a great transfer window, they must achieve so much this season’
No. We had a good transfer window (which we might still have, if we don’t panic) not a great one.
Lopetegui probably didn’t help by saying he wanted to make a ‘big noise.’
But I suppose, we are living in a day and age, where managers are expected to come out with these hyperbole sound bytes.
The biggest problem I think we have at the moment, is that Alvarez (still unfit from his injury) and Rodriguez (not up to speed with the PL ) are not pressing enough - hence the reason, teams are just cutting through us like a knife through butter.
The wide men don’t know if they’re coming or going it looks disjointed, and is giving the opposition, the freedom and confidence to stroll through us.
If Alvarez was 100% fit, we might have got away it, but he isn’t.
For me, I think it now makes more sense, as to why maybe JL has been playing Antonio and Soucek, (apart from not putting their noses out of joint) - he probably realises (at this moment in time) Alvarez and Rodriguez aren’t up to the press, so we’re probably better served ( I hate myself for saying this) playing Moyesball at the moment.
Problem is, we’ve ended up not being one thing, or the other, for the majority of the games.
Until, Todibo gets up to speed, starts playing and the Alvarez/Rodriguez problem sought sits self out, we might have to go back to a more pragmatic way of playing.
I don’t know this for certain, but I think JL played that way to get Wolves out of trouble, when he took over there.
Not ideal, but needs must.
He’s in a bit of a damned if does, damned if he don’t situation.
If he plays pragmatically, he’ll be moaned at for being just like Moyes. If we try to press, we’ll be ripped apart.
I understand the poor fuckers who are paying big money to follow the club week in, week out will be furious after yesterday performance. None of us are happy at what happened.
But now won’t be the time to throw toys out of the pram (at the ground), at least.
We’ve had our backs to the wall plenty of times in the past, and come through stronger for it.
Remember, JL has previous for getting Wolves out of the shit and let’s have some perspective - we’ve been beaten by 3 teams in very good form ( carrying over from last season) in the league.
Time for a bit of patience and resilience, chaps ( as difficult as that is, at the moment).
It ain’t gonna be pretty. But come on, for fuck sake, it’s West Ham - it was never going to be straight forward.

Re: Lopetegui
Hmm, embarrassed myself...I said I'd employ Fonseca not the Cowley brothers. It'ss not working out in Milan but that happens to alot of managers, his Lille team were excellent and better than anything on Sloppy's CV. He'd have been my choice in the summer and I'll stand by that.

Re: Lopetegui
Why are you comparing him to Lopetegui? I’d rather not jump from one car crash to another. If Lopetegui does go, Fonseca isn’t the answer.
Btw Milan finished 2nd last season, it’s like Arsenal winning one of the opening 5 games and getting beat by Ipswich (and conceding 2 goals a game).

Re: Lopetegui
I'll hazard a guess that Liverpool's kids and stiffs do worse to Sloppypeggy on Tuesday night and without the dignity of scoring one in reply. Just look at his post match interview on the BBC and read his face, the man is utterly shellshocked, it's over. It's sad, I wanted it to work but it isn't and the most alarming is how passively we surrender, make no effort to harass the opposition when out of possession and look completely impotent in possession. As for needing one's head tested for picking Emerson Royal, what's the medical intervention for picking Antonio, Soucek as a 10, Mavropanos over Todibo, a clearly broken Paqueta?

I'll happily take that over Sloppypeggy's mess.
They scored 4 in their one win against newly promoted Venezia who are rubbish.
Aside from that they’ve been beat by newly promoted Parma (who should have had 4 or 5 in the first half), scored two injury time goals to scrape a draw at Torino and got outplayed by Lazio in the second half of that game.
Then they got destroyed by Liverpool in the CL.
Defensively they’re way worse than us.
Any manager who consistently picks Emerson Royal needs his head testing.

Re: Lopetegui
Agree about him being all angry on the side, it doesn't get him any browny points at all. Create your own mess and then start berating it? It's borderline comedy if it wasn't so tragic.
But, happy to give him the Brentford and Ipswich games before going full get him out of my football club mode.

Guessing you’ve not seen much of Milan this season?
There’s no need to move fast, there won’t be a long list of clubs wanting Fonseca.

Re: Lopetegui
It's hard to know what he really thinks about the performance, or what happens next, as he can't really speak English, so it's cliched claptrap in broken word.
As for the remonstrating on the sidelines, him being fuming and people claiming that's a good thing, that's starting to do my fucking head in. It's utterly pointless being angry if you're fucking clueless about what to do. I'd rather him sit on the bench doing fuck all, if it meant next game he'd have some answers.
I can't think of a single fan who had him as their choice to replace Moyes, other than "Lopetegui fan here" Massive Attack, who went on to claim he'd followed him closely over the years, including his time as the Spain U19 manager. Utter waffle. After he was appointed, I was prepared to give him time, but I'm yet to see a single redeeming thing up till now that makes me think this is going to work.

Re: Lopetegui
Hasn't instilled a lot of confidence or assuaged the many doubts that came in the moment his name was floated as a possibility.
There's only so long you can coast on the fact that you're not David Moyes, which is so far his only real achievement at the club.

Re: Lopetegui
What the fuck are you going on about you pillock?
You're not making any sort of point, judging 5 games of last season against 5 this season. Moyes has gone, he deserved to go because we were shit for 2 years in the league under him. That's why no other club has touched him, with only rock bottom Everton maybe a possible.
The fact this geezer looks shit as well is neither here nor there with pumping Moyes, we need better than both.
