Lopetegui (sacked 8.1.2025)
I was thoroughly looking forward to the start of this season
Was also prepared that things might take some time and wasn't expecting miracles over night What I didn't expect was a manager who after spending 6 weeks with the total dross he'd been left by Moyes would deem them fit to start in a premier league game And low and behold all of them played absolute shit
We're now 1 game in and none of our new players are any closer to bedding in or learning anything from their new team mates cos they barely spent a second on the pitch, half of them not at all I think it's gonna take somewhere between 6-10 games before we see the team anyone with an ounce of sense would play cos this bloke can't identify shit when he see's it I thought we was handed a miracle at half time when we went in level and low and behold he changed nothing I'm sure people are gonna make excuses for him and say it's too early to judge
But from what I've just seen today, this cսnt is David Moyes in a mission impossible mask

Even Milan’s own website:
AC MILAN (4-4-2): Maignan; E. Royal, Gabbia, Tomori, Hernández; Pulisic (78' Okafor), Fofana, Reijnders, Leão (86' Chukwueze); Morata (78' Loftus-Cheek), Abraham (90'+3 Pavlović)

Attackers aren’t strikers.
Leao and Pulisic aren’t strikers.
football Italia:
“Coach Fonseca switched to a 4-4-2 formation with Tammy Abraham and Alvaro Morata together, dropping Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Strahinja Pavlovic”
BBC:AC MilanManager:Paulo FonsecaFormation:4 - 2 - 3 - 1
Sempremilan.com:
The Portuguese manager has made three changes to the starting XI for tonight’s game and as if that wasn’t enough, he has also switched to a 4-4-2 formation.
Etc etc etc

Re: Lopetegui
4 defenders. 2 midfielders. 4 attackers. This is how they set up out of possession. They' are pictures and everything you can look at to check if your brain can't process such high numbers in real time. The commentator even used the phrase 4 strikers more times than you have functional brain cells It was a 424 and Inter weren't scoring i4 they'd played till NewYear. Milan defened well and Emerson Royal would have two assists had the finishing been better. Now, have you got anymore of this or do you want to stop at quacking plums ?

Playing wingers high up the pitch doesn’t make them strikers. I’m not sure you understand football.
it could also have been 4-4. Great watch for a neutral, but you wanna take a team that can’t defend and make them even more open.
But ‘nice football’ is all that counts right?

Re: Lopetegui
My simplification of our current problems is that to play a high line and keep the ball, recover it quickly, you need players with pace and athleticism and plauers with quick feet, thinking and technique in terms of passing, control.
We dud not recruit enough of the former mostly and ate missing the latter in a couple of key positions.
premiership management, its easy.

Milan aren’t shit, that’s the point. They have probably the second best squad in the league but Fonseca has made them look shit against Torino, Parma and second half v Lazio.
You think Pulisic & Leao are strikers? He’s playing 442.

1-1 can’t defend for shit. Sound familiar?
but hey, only nice football matters.

Re: Lopetegui
It’s a bit early to be judging. Not looked great so far, but the teas we’ve lost against are villa, city and Chelsea. We’ve got results against Palace, Bournemouth and Fulham. It was always a risk changing managers - but need to hold off on the hysterics given the amount we’ve changed up.

Re: Lopetegui
I'm moaning about his record at Fulham, I'm stating what he's tangibly accomplished at Fulham, which isn't very much othdr than playing nice football which is incidentally all I want and why I'd take Fonseca. It's pretty simple.
Re: Lopetegui
Are you okay? I’ve said what he’s done at Fulham tells you everything, then you moan about his record at Fulham not being good enough and then say you’d want him here because of what he’s done at Fulham.
Thank the lord you’re not picking our next boss if/when it happens.

Re: Lopetegui
What record at Fulham? He's won nothing, hasn't quaified for Europe a has a win % idehtical to Moyes 2nd spell here after his he tanked his with an 18 month impolsion. I'd take him because Fulham are well coached, play with a common purpose and an attractive style and for the same reason I'd take Foncesa after his spell at Lille but you can't even make that simple an argument to support your position.

Re: Lopetegui
In order for that to be accurate I'd have to think Fonseca wa shit, which I don't . I've expained exactly why I'd appoint Foncesa and a key part of it is his pending availability. Just give me one paragraph on Marco Silva and his medicine 44% win record, please I'd love to hear it.

Re: Lopetegui
And you keep banging on about Seville and the Europa League, personally I'd say Braga's first domestic trophy in 50 years is probably a bigger achievement in terms of difficulty than Seville 's fourth Europa League in what 7 years.

Fonseca has managed twice at that high level, failed at Roma and is struggling at Milan. Lopetegui has a couple of hundred games at that level (successfully), and has won a major European trophy.
I’d rather not follow one failure (if he does fail) with someone who has failed twice at that level.
Between Seville and Roma their win percentage is basically idehtical. Is a 52% win ratio over 100 games really failure...I don't think so, it may not be seen as a success but it's certainty not failure. If you want a direct comparison both were at Porto, only one took home a pot. Still waiting for a paragraph on way you think manger X would be your choice,...
Re: Lopetegui
He needs time. Liked that fact that he's at least trying to break free from the Moyes shackles even if it isn't going well, didn't so much like that he resorted back to Antonio, Soucek and Cresswell and took off players like Summerville who were having decent game. We need to see more of Soler, but I can understand introducing him slowly. Clearly not up to speed with the pace of PL and almost got sent off against Fulham and has already been booked twice in two sub appearances.
Yes, It's not been a good, its actually been fucking dire at times like yesterday, but its got to play out. Anyone thinking we'd be world beaters this season needs a reality check. If we're near the bottom three in January and still turning out performances like yesterday, then yes his tenure needs a re-think, but we have to hope yesterday was our low point and we start to turn corners (and yes that is becoming a phrase we tend to use every other season!)

Re: Lopetegui
Last time I checked that was still unbeaten...Never said he was any good. You said they were rare, apparently not. Im purposely ignoring Seville as you purposely ignore Fonseca played really good football at Lille and more importantly the reason I think he'll fit, his over achievement at Pacos and Braga. Still swerving any reasoning for you choices I see...Sloppy has pulled a Starmer here, he's done, there's was nothing positive at all yesterday, Chelsea actually took pity on us, we've have to move him out early.
