Lopetegui (sacked 8.1.2025)

Post maverick180 »

I was thoroughly looking forward to the start of this season

Was also prepared that things might take some time and wasn't expecting miracles over night What I didn't expect was a manager who after spending 6 weeks with the total dross he'd been left by Moyes would deem them fit to start in a premier league game And low and behold all of them played absolute shit

We're now 1 game in and none of our new players are any closer to bedding in or learning anything from their new team mates cos they barely spent a second on the pitch, half of them not at all I think it's gonna take somewhere between 6-10 games before we see the team anyone with an ounce of sense would play cos this bloke can't identify shit when he see's it I thought we was handed a miracle at half time when we went in level and low and behold he changed nothing I'm sure people are gonna make excuses for him and say it's too early to judge

But from what I've just seen today, this cսnt is David Moyes in a mission impossible mask

Part of the reason for getting a DOF was finding anyone happy to work under Sullivan was nigh on impossible. Let alone anyone who is capable. Nothing is changing while Sully is happy to let certain people have his ear. The only hope long term is if Kretinsky has a quiet word. And suggest Sully to rein it in.?

The footballing world is not blessed with goalkeepers who make it as top class managers.  Zoff, Lopetegui are about as successful as you can find before you are scraping the barrel (Bruce Arena, Mike Walker, Nuno, Zenga, etc).

This can't be coincidence?  Whilst you'd expect less goalies than, say any other position, you'd expect there to be about 10% of the great managers to be represented by goalkeepers.  The fact it's not even close to that suggests it's more than just a co-incidence.  I mean there are probably 5 to 10 better managers currently operating in the Premier League than there have ever been exceptional goalkeeper managers in all of football, if not more.

Goalies spend time with specialist coaches, away from the main squad, so they're not learning/absorbing all the nuances of the coaches they play under.

It's starting to prove hard to think that this guy has the gravitas or the talent to repair a broken ship.  Maybe with a group of excellent, functioning players he could where he was just building on current success and layering on his ideas.  Building from ground zero, if he had it you'd expect to be seeing signs of it at least already.

You could say he's not had 'time'.  But Glasner had Palace functioning within days.  Maresca has got Chelsea working quickly. despite much of the team he's using being different to the guys playing under Poch.  Postecoglu got Spurs up and running after Mourinho and Conte in his style very quickly.

Good managers make their ideas easy for players to grasp quickly...footballers not being the brightest in the world tyically, you can't over complicate the game.  The signs for Lopetegui are bad.  Very bad.

Talking myself swiftly into a 'kill this off sooner the better' position.   The thing holding me back...what Sullivan will do next.  He's already said he doesn't rate Potter.  Tuchel or Terzic are probably our best options currently...could we attract Tuchel?  Feels unlikely currently.

So.

It's not like we asked for him or employed him.

Its around about the same as Moyes currently so that'd clearly not good.

Would be curious to know their thoughts

To be honest, the foreign manager thing has never sat well with me. We always had a tradition of being a local club, managed by British managers until Zola was appointed in 2008. The foreign managers we have employed have all turned out to be abject failures. Zola was a joke, Grant relegated us, Bilic lost the plot after a good first season, Pellegrini lost the plot by playing the clown Roberto in goal for so long and now 'loser Lop' is in and never had a plot in the first place. It is no coincidence that our best few seasons in the past 40 years were under the recent management of a Premier League proven British manager.

A club like ours should always be hunting for proven, or up and coming British managers. McKenna at Ipswich has shown there are British gems out there.

To me, it is insane to continue with this disastrous appointment when Potter is available. We should cut our losses, sack 'loser Lop' and go all out to hire Potter.

Sullivan won't though and we will have a relegation battle ahead under 'loser Lop'.

Sullivan has no plan b. Most of the times his plan a’s are questionable. He’ll just do what he always does. Bury his head in the sand, and hope for the best.

our only hope is somebody is tapping up Potter on the quiet. As he’s out of work too, he’s probably our best hope. If Loppy goes, he’ll avoid the foreign manager route again.

3 games to save his job? You're a day late... Started yesterday, once that starts the end is inevitable. No point waiting, get it done today. Flopetegui OUT.

Think it might be possibly later than you think, goose.

Sullivan won't want to admit this mistake, I reckon.

I wonder how long it will be until we hear from a 'source inside the club' that he has 2 or 3 games to save his job?

“They just don't look like a group of players playing for a new manager looking to impress and run through walls for him.”

This is exactly it. No change on this front and we have to cut our losses.

Keep seeing 'we are in transition' or 'it takes time to change styles and ethos' etc but with transitions and a change of manager you see glimpses of positive changes. Glimpses of new set up's or style of plays.

We have had nothing this season, we look an absolute mess. The team selctions have been shit, the tactics have been shit, the subs have been shit. He isn't using any of the promising youth.

I get you need to give a manager time but Jlop has shown absolutely nothing since the summer to suggest he deserves it or will do anything with it. I am far more in favour of making the call and getting rid.

Tezic is a good shout, or I would look at Corboran at West Brom.  Maybe even Tuchel, at least he would get them running and showing aggresion and a sense of urgency.

They just don't look like a group of players playing for a new manager looking to impress and run through walls for him.

Brentford away is now a huge game.

He looked absolutely shell shocked post match v Chelsea. Whatever he had about him he lost on his sabbatical, I'd suggest he walk for his own health but the lanky clown has put himself on crutches so won't even be able to do that properly. Fucking Spanish Rodney Trotter. Flopetegui OUT.

His body language shows he's under severe pressure unshaven wearing jeans and sulking in his chair doesn't bode well.
He's also developed a tic blinking at a 100mph.
Doesn't look like the players are listening to him and the coaches.

Anyway get him gone and put Noble and Potts in for the next 2 games before appointing Potter.
That would well be an issue. You'd think a basic command of the language would be a pre-requirement to manage a top flight Premier League club. Not at West Ham though (Zola, Grant, 'loser Lop').

But 'loser Lop' failed in Spain too (sacked by Real Madrid and Sevilla), so it's not just a language barrier issue with him. He is simply an incompetent manager and a loser as I said all summer.

Something this broken will never be fixed so there's no point wasting 2 good fixtures verus Brentford and Ipswich only to sack him after and throw the poor bastard that replaces him to the lions against Tottenham and Manchester. Do it today Sullivan, get the cսnt gone. Flopetegui OUT.

He can take the credit for a battling first half performance but has to accept he fucked up with Cresswell and Soucek and his failure to respond properly to the bent ref and their gamesmanship. It’s not as if playing a cup tie at Anfield should come as any surprise to him. Taking Ings off for Antonio rather than Kudus was arguably another mistake.

This was never going to be easy but last night was another nightmare closely following the Chelsea debacle. The learning curve has to be steeper.

The wait until Christmas thing (I can't think of a better word) is just moronic really, nobody can lose matches for four months, ffs, particularly after spending 150 mil. He needs some results very soon or it will begin to look untenable.

Got a feeling we will get at least 4 points from the next two games, which will alleviate some pressure. It's a fucking mess though and the start that we feared would happen, with the wish for cunts now sharpening their respective knives.

Like many I was underwhelmed by Lop's appointment but convinced myself that he could do a good job due to what he did in his short stint at Wolves and was deemed a good enough manager to be the Spain boss, but a nagging doubt remained.

I also wondered why we paid 25 million on a teenager from Brazil if he wasn't good enough to walk into and improve the 1st team, yet we refused to pay 40 million for Duran who'll probably be worth twice that by the next window. The kid + the Kraut money would have been more than enough to get him.

What I've seen this season thus far has been incredibly disappointing to say the least.  I believe that he (Lop) has already alienated a vast swathe of our supporters and as much as I want to, can't see things improving.  If we lose at the weekend Sullivan needs to get rid, as even if we beat lowly Ipswich we have Spuds and Man U following, which would leave us on 7 pts after 9 games if we, as presently expected, lose those.

I still believe it was right to let Moyes go, but it seems that we fucked up on his replacement.

Never wanted him, and sadly he has already proven everything I was critical of him before he arrived. Wasn't that impressed with our summer dealings but they are all quite high profile and can't complain. However, It's looking like has spent an incredible amount of money to not improve any area of the pitch, or at least he doesn't know how to utilise them. Much like Moyes.

The next two games are sink or swim for our season.

Sounds good now, might be some time before we see Europe again but I do agree about the youth but Lopetegui is no better.
