So what you're saying is that we looked OK and were only 3-1 down when 11 v 11 and playing their reserves?

Not wasted? Name one positive? Todibo & Kilman, shit.
Wan Bissaka, average. Fullkrug & Rodrigues, not good enough and Summerville too lightweight.

We needed pace and we got nothing.
I can name more than one positive. Wan Bissaka is a much, much better player than Ben Johnson. Summerville is lots better than Benrahma. Kilman is streets ahead of Zouma. Fulkrug instead of Duran is bewildering but nobody was complaining after his performance in the Euros and let’s face it, if Moyes had signed him your pants would look like a bag of smashed up Dairylea triangles.

Kilman streets ahead of Zouma? Assume you mean a crocked Zouma? A fully fit Zouma is a different level to Kilman.
Kilman would do well alongside a strong leader...

I agree.
They look like a bunch of individuals ...never a good thing for a club like us.
Players jogging back..no one geeing up the lads..
The capitulation after the sending -off was typical of a weak group
A couple of strong characters in that squad would make a big difference.
We have none

That was my view too. Nowhere near as bad as last time. At least for that hour. We weren’t in the game at all last year.

Not to say we don’t have huge problems. But the team Moyes put out last year was worse.

I also thought Fab could have done better on goals 1, 2, and 4. That second yellow on Alvarez I thought was extremely harsh and never would have been given the other way if the circumstances were the same. He's clearly in front of Salah, clearly trying to play the ball, and only makes contact with the side of his foot at ground level. It's a foul but not yellow unless persistent infringement. It wasn't reckless, malicious, or a professional foul stopping a promising attack. I'm not getting my knickers in a twist because it went tits up after the red card. If that's a nailed on yellow, then every slide tackle that doesn't result in the defender getting the ball is a yellow. Alvarez has certainly been concerning this season and always seems to have a card in him. I wonder too how much his hamstring injury at Copa America over the summer is slowing him down.

Before that, they were getting in behind our back 4 but that was always going to be the case with Cresswell and Coufal playing. That we were able to keep it within reach as long as we did at least suggests some improvement. If we can start like that (hopefully not with those fullbacks) against Brentford and build on it, it's at least progress. I don't want to see Mavros in that one as his mental lapses are a significant problem for us. If we lose there, then Ipswich becomes a pressure cooker. I shudder to think if we lose them both. Still not willing to write off Lop just yet, but he MUST steady the ship and soon.
Slightly encouraging!!!! We lost 5-1 against Liverpool reserves.

Said it before but we need to learn how to defend at this level and sadly what is going on in play is no better than last season.

We are the Anthony Joshua of the EPL where one goal conceded  finishes us.

We need some athelticism in the middle, if we’re playing paqueta at the top of the 3 in the middle we need some legs behind him. Edson and guido run like they have parachutes attached to them.

Post Sir Alf »

Some of us have “bored on and on”  for years ( ok well i have and many others ) about the need for collective pace and agility in the team.  Doesnt mesn every player but quite a few. They also need to be able to pass accurately with one and two touch before quickly moving.  We yet again lack that this season and especially in the defensive midfield area and that along with other factors like poor decision making and misunderstanding of roles and tactics ( coaching / communication ) its costing dearly. It was less of an issue when we sat 9 behind the ball in a narrow “low block” but now we are trying to keep the ball and play out thru the opposition press its proving to be a real problem.

Like I say, its also tactics and understanding of roles, and not taking responsibility but every game we concede with a simple pass behind our back 3 or 4 ( centrally or wide left ( our right back ) ). Runners not able or just not being tracked by the defensive midfield and/or not bad positioning by CBs etc.

Its not a panacea for everything but a Kante, Caicedo level of pace in one or two of our defensive midfielders would help a lot.  Its made worse because Kilman aint quick ( not sure about Tobibo) and Mavrapanos positioning etc means attackers simply given too much space to move into.

But other issues too seen again last night. Coufal far too slow and was simply sidestepped twice by Gakpo although Todibo turning his back and not putting his body on the line didnt help ( not brave, physical enough suggestion?).

Then I lost count of the times Alvarez, Coufal, Soucek and up top Ings and last might Bowen give the ball back so quickly with poor passing decisions or options. Partly because we dont have the athleticism as a team to create space and options but also technical execution not up to it in too many players. Im comparing to Villa, Liverpool, Chelsea and City but we look a level below just in playing simple passes.  As mentioned possibly down to lack of movement, pace and getting pressed too easily.

We left some gaping holes with recruitment and looks like we simply got the wrong type ( one paced every player recruited excluding Sommerville).

Loppy has snookered himself as he tries to get us play a high line, possession game without some key player profiles to do it effectively in the Premiership ( its much faster than la liga).

His only way to get results unfortunately may be to revert back towards sitting deeper again in a quasi Moyesball  set up. Because currently we will concede 2 every game we are so open.

So fvcking depressing. I saw some little patches of play last night but still not enough cutting edge and chasing shadows trying to get near the ball as the young Liverpool Ressies passed it around us.

Finally Todibo? Not a difference maker based on that. Comfortable in possession, good passer and interceptions but not physical in challemges at all. A Kind of slightly better version of Aguerd ☹️

Stalking?

No just replying to your claim that you've been proven right, you haven't as it's early and it's you confirming your early opinion with your current opinion because it hasn't changed.

On the other hand you said to me Alverez will play Saturday because he doesn't get banned for a league game and that I was a thick cսnt for saying it.. Which isn't opinion and it's 100% wrong so in fact you've only been proven 100% wrong today not correct and your only defence of me questioning your 100% incorrect claim is to call me a stalker..

Summerville adds pace & trickery and think will be good for us
I see the Premier league panel was 3-2 in favour of him getting that obvious penalty v Chelsea
AWB is a massive upgrade … just needs to be played at RIGHT BACK
Hopefully Todibo will step up & form a partnership with Kilman
The Brazilian kid seems a bizarre choice & the German at 31 also odd given the age of Ings & Antonio
In hindsight the £50m on those 2 could have financed a push for Duran
Im guessing Fulkrug Ings & Antonio cost more than Watkins & Duran did Villa
Its not always about the amount of money!

Just another game where at the end you feel totally deflated and disappointed. Not many positives again to take.

Alvarez is shit at the moment what has happened to him?   Bowen is also nowhere near his best.

2 years we have been watching Ings, Cresswell, Coufal and Soucek and saying how shit they are. Why are we still having to endure them away at Anfield?!?!

If the likes of Ghillerme and Orford are not better than those 4 then what is the manager and the club doing.  If Orford can't produce better than Soucek or Rodriguez so far this season then why didn't we lob him out and get Duran instead of the German lump.

Feels like the season is bit of a write off already. Can't remember feeling so deflated and disappointed this early on in a while.

We can't defend and can't create chances from open play. It's not looking good!

The performance was much better than last ywars
Antonio looked good when he came on last night, best he's looked all season, should be used in that way. For a while in the second half we looked likely to equalise, we were never in it last season.
