WHUFC Ipswich Town (Home) | Match Predictions & Lineup

Post stubbo-admin »

Feels early to be calling this a must-win, but at the same time if you've got any aspirations to 'make a big noise' this season, Ipswich at home IS a must win.

Team for me:

                                Areola

Wan Bissaka      Todibo     Kilman    Emerson

                Soucek     Alvarez    Soler

         Kudus             Bowen            Paqueta

Result:

I can see a scrappy 1-0 here.

Here's some pre-match stuff:

Same team as Sir Alf for me

But Bowen and Paqueta need a performance.  Hopefully Orford and Ghillurme on the bench if they dont perform.

Irving can also be pushing for more involement.

Fed up of watching the likes of Paq Soucek Alvarez Rodriguez Coufal Cresswell etc be shite every single time. Give the youth a chance they can't be any worse

I'd seriously consider dropping Paqueta. He's been a liability so far this season as he constantly loses possession. Isn't Soler a creative player? if so, I'd be inclined to play him CM alongside Kudus, Bowen on the right and Summerville on the left. Issue is, Antonio starts as he's somehow our only option again. Fullkrug's bruised foot is typical West Ham in that it's worse than originally thought.

Crazy, not to start Kudus and Bowen. Bowen should be on the right. Kudus said he prefers and plays best in centre and should play there with Paqueta or on his own. Paquet is more versatile, plays well anywhere and anyway he plays pretty much anywhere.

It is odd that those three arn't doing well this season, but Soucek is. Why would changing to possession football do that?

First and foremost, let's hope we can get through the first 5 mins without conceding a goal.

Thought Ipswich looked a hard-working unit when watching them against Villa and what they lack in skill they make up for with commitment and hard work.

As to line up fuck knows, be interesting to see if Kudus starts after all the bust up rumors? Will go a hard fought 2-1 to West Ham though but do think it will be tight.

Stubbo - Yep. While I understand tactics are important in the modern game the most important thing is sending out a confident, fired up side and the players performing, the rest will work itself out.

Nothing less than 3 points in this one, although Ipswich could easily surprise.

As much as I'm guilty of it, these 'formations' are all a bit pointless these days.

In possession were largely playing 3-2-5. Out of possession it's more like a 4-4-2 block.  So lining us up as '4-3-3' or '4-2-3-1' or whatever...doesn't mean a lot.

Kudus as centre forward...I like the idea of it in some situations (on the counter) but in a possession based game I don't see him as a back to goal number 9 to bring players into the game, stay central and get on the end of the balls from the wider players.

Frankly, for that we need Fullkrug, as none of our other players are viable in that role.

His skill is dribbling/carrying, beating a man and getting a shot away.  Central striker doesn't utilise that unless we're playing heavily on the counter from a low block position.

In the current setup, he has to play as a right sided forward. Same as Bowen. IMO one of them needs to start from the bench most games and they rotate, unless we persevere with Bowen through the middle (or see if he can make the left wing work).

But he is a quandary. Tremendous player, but we're in the ludicrous position of lacking real quality in many positions, but having two high quality players in the same position.

Debates for this game:

Does he start Kudus?  Does Emerson come back on or does Mavro start at RB after a strong showing (and Emerson has been poor so far)? Does Soler start?  Does Alvarez replace Guido, come in alongside him, or start from the bench? Who plays centre forward?

So many questions remain about this squad and how to use it effectively?!

I hate this revisionism around Antonio.

He was a very effective CF for a couple of seasons under Moyes, and should have been part of the England Euro squad in 2021. He was unplayable at times.

He is well past it now though.

Would be good to see this but highly unlikely:

                                Areola
Wan Bissaka      Todibo     Kilman    Emerson
                   Paqueta      Alvarez
                              Soler
             Bowen     Kudus     Summerville

Paqueta needs to play deeper imo as a no 8 and help Alvarez with screening the back 4, pressing, counter pressing and transition out from the back. But clear instructions to move it quickly and not get caught in possession.

Kudus to be tried as a false 9. May be hopeless at it but he’s strong, quick and may be better than Bowen at it. And besides Bowen’s best games are almost always wide right and cutting in.

However, I can see him starting with Soucek and Antonio. Soucek scores and has a value as an impact sub to get into the box but will contribute next to nothing in build up play and passing. Usually 10-15 touches of the ball  and 75% ( at best) passing accuracy.

Antonio is not and never was a central striker and cannot play 90 mins. Again, a decent sub to have if needed.

Home draw and more discontent.

Fullkrug is the only injury. He remains on the verge of coming back, lets hope it's before Christmas.

I'd like to see us get all our attacking options on in positions they play well in.

                                Areola
Wan Bissaka, Tobido, Kilman, Emerson
                               Alarez
                        Kudus, Paqueta
               Bowen, Antonio, Summerville

You’ve got some front, you were asking him to play Soucek as a centre forward.

Hope Loppety knows because I’m lost with him. He may even start without Kudus and Paquetá and with Soucek and Antonio.

The line up really isn't that important, go out organised and hungry and we will win. We got the line up we wanted against Chelsea and look what happened.

I see Fullcrock misses out again.

I reckon he’ll be about 34 by the time he gets himself fit.

What a joke signing honestly.

We've clearly got vastly superior players. But the messages coming out the club about the manager are alarming . Which means literally anyone could beat us . Even the Dagenham girl pipers .

Soucek has cemented his place in the side with that goal at Brentford…..Antonio has cement boots on, yet will start.

Ipswich are a hard team to beat and think they’ll nick their first win of the season.

Quite a few know that I have lived and worked here for a few years.

They have delighted, on a high support, a manager who is extracting every ounce out of his team and a team who are really feeling the love.

We, on the other hand, are the exact polar opposite.

*IF* we are to get a result this weekend, we will have to score two or more as they will definitely score. I am not confident and expect to be having some humble pie water cooler conversations with some delighted Tractor boys on Monday ;-(

It will get worse before it gets better.  Presumably the business superstars running our club have inserted some kind of performance related exit clause in the inept manager's contract. Lose by 2 goals.
