NFL (since 2016)
"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

Re: NFL (since 2016)
The Jets trade for Adams (for a conditional third round pick) is just desperation.
The terrible owners have tried everything to deflect from their own inadequacies - sacking head coaches, hiring more over-rated head coaches, trying over-rated rookie QBs, buying expensive egotistical QBs etc - and, with the rare exception of a few seasons under Rex Ryan's Revis-led defense, none of it has worked.
Eventually, the people at the top run out of excuses because they've tinkered with everything and still failed. The one constant that remains is that the owners don't know what they're doing. They don't know what a successful team or franchise looks like, and so they are incapable of identifying what they need to be successful. Until that changes - which would probably mean them selling an extremely lucrative franchise - then I can't see it changing much.
I'll give the new HC, Ulbrich, some time just because we have no other choice right now and he's there by default. But I've no idea if he's any good - and he doesn't stand much of a chance anyway.

..Drake Maye finally started and I thought he did alright...
Daniels and Williams have both started from the off and doing well ?
Daniels played almost double the games in college (55) compared to Drake (30), so is very experienced but he's exceeded any expectations. Williams had a shaky first couple of weeks but is now looking comfortable, the Bears recruited some really good weapons for him so he has an advantage in that respect over Daniels and Maye. The Patriots just need to be patient with him

Re: NFL (since 2016)
The big issue now is that the guy effectively in charge of the offense (Rodgers) is a player who is out of contract in January. It’s all a bit temporary and feels very “shit or bust”.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
I see the Jets have demoted Nate Hackett (former OC) after firing Rob Saleh (HC), which means they’ve overhauled their entire coaching staff mid-season, as they’ll have a new DC in place, too, following Ulbrich’s promotion.
Todd Downing, the former QB coach, is the new OC. Which means Rodgers will be doing more of the play-calling on offense - not necessarily a bad thing, as Hackett was very poor.
What a shitshow it has all been - again. They could and should have made some of these moves after last season. I get them having waited to see how Saleh started the season (although, clearly his head was on the chopping block). But Hackett should have gone in the summer.
So, basically a new HC, new OC and new DC. All promoted from within after five games.
It seems unlikely to work, but you never know. Can’t think of too many examples of when three internal appointments have clicked - are there any?

It’s really annoying, but the cameras point towards the side of the stadium we let the visiting fans in - so always looks bad on TV

Dominated 6 games and could end up 2-4, someone's making some bad calls somewhere!!!
And yeah fuck the seahawks, utter utter cunts.

Whiners whining even when they win, who’d have thought it.
Love you too Grumps…
Losing most of our starting D is killing us. No point scoring 20 points plus a game if we’re going to concede 30.

More niners fans there than the millwall equivalent seahawks, goodnight you useless sluts.
Can roll this terrible division now, though probably after losing the next game against the chiefs and getting the injured lads back.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
Zeb, I know he's struggled in Carolina but Bryce Young would be perfect for the receivers you have. No idea why they're not trying to bring in a QB, very strange but if it continues will get Mcdaniels also fired
Re: NFL (since 2016)
Good point TM..
There is nothing wrong with the Jets Defence at all and the situation with the offence is entirely down to the decisions of Hackett and the GM (whose name escapes me).The O-line is appalling and the Jets have a roster of receivers who can't catch.Lazard, in particular, had a complete shocker last time out.
My Dolphins are in a deep hole as well. Having both backup QBs completely unsuited to the offensive scheme with the entirely predictable long lay off for Tua is baffling. What is the point of having a stacked set of receivers when neither backup is capable of throwing deep especially when the RBs are going down like flies?
Watching Ven Ginkel tearing it up for the Vikings makes me weep as well.

Sure, there's a school of thought that says "Saleh was a defensive coach and the Jets defense has been excellent - and it's the offense that's misfiring". Because all of that is true.
But I keep repeating: Saleh was the head coach, not the DC. Under his "leadership" of the team, the offense was getting worse despite a big investment (Rodgers, Hall, Wilson, Lazard, big money spent on the line etc). One reason for that was certainly Nate Hackett, the OC. But another reason was that the highest-paid coach on the staff, and supposed team leader, had absolutely no idea what an offense was, how to fix problems (Lazard, for example, can't catch a cold at the moment), or how to get more out of offensive players, coaches and situations. You don't need to be an offensive mind to do that - but you need to know what a good offensive mind looks like.
Saleh was a superb DC struggling to be a head coach and he never took responsibility for losses - something the players grew tired of. After the loss to the Vikings, linebacker Quincy Williams said there were people at the club who needed to "start taking accountability" for performances. "People get tired of hearing the same thing every week," he added. It's pretty obvious who he was referring to.
We could have sacked Hackett as OC, and still might. He is a problem. But it risks pissing off Rodgers - which the Jets' owners literally cannot afford. But if they did that and Saleh continued to know absolutely nothing about offense, and therefore wasn't able to monitor his coaches on that side of the ball, you'd still have the same structural problem.
They should effectively let Rodgers call offensive plays at the line, and use Hackett as a loose playbook guy. Give Rodgers enough rope to hang himself - or thrive - before he retires. Then he can't moan that he was given a chance.
It's not ideal, but it's probably the only way to get through this season - after which Rodgers is gone and we can start again. Never forget, Saleh was 20-36 as a head coach and lost almost twice as many games as he won. He'll bounce back, but he needs to learn some lessons to become a HC again.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
For the 1st time since the Rex/Sanchez days the Jets are being taken seriously and Woody Johnson is not seeing it coming from Salah.
I agree with the firing, I do thing it should have been done last year and Bill or Pete Carroll brought in just to make sure it went right.
a 2-3 season which should easily be 4-1

Has anyone else noticed the similarities between the Cowboys head coach and Ange at the spuds ?

What he (the owner) should do is immediately sell the franchise and give the fans some hope, because he and the GM haven't got a fucking clue what they're doing
Amen to that. But the chances of Woody selling one of the most lucrative franchises in all of sport are pretty low. We make shitloads of money, because we're in New York, despite being utterly hopeless. And it's a prestige thing for the baby oil vendors, isn't it? I suspect Woody wants to run for mayor, too, following his stint as Trump's UK ambassador.

Re: NFL (since 2016)
I do agree with you about the broad Rodgers, Hackett point though, TM.
Gut feeling is that it will all end with a damp squib this season. We'll probably win a few games, and threaten a revival, but fall short. Then everybody - Rodgers, Hackett, Ulbrich and Douglas - will be on the chopping block.
Can envisage that the Jets will be starting from scratch, yet again, in January.
But let's see. Maybe Ulbrich will get the formula right.
