The International Break

Post Mike Oxsaw »

Day one of the international break and already I'm as bored as a bored, no, listen, really fucking bored, bored person. I'm more bored than I am boring.

Why can't the suits just fuck off and let everybody enjoy club football?

It feels like cheating getting in a foreigner as manager again. Anyways, I hope Skeletor can select and coach us to play like a team, and doesn’t pick lazy cocky players who think they can stroll about hitting pointless balls with the outside of their foot, but go missing when it really matters.

Apparently he has been named as the new manager . Let’s hope Jacob Steinburg wasn’t the one that gave the tip off.

I would have happily taken Tuchel for us ahaed of JL so happy if he takes over England.  Would rather have a good foreigner as manager than a crap Englishman.  Only Englishman I could see making a good job of it is Howe but that won't happen now.

It's pretty much impossible for Ghana to qualify for the AFCON.

Excellent news.  Means we have Kudus over Dec/Jan.

Agreed. In fact the clown Keegan was very guilty of the play the best XI in any postions. The funny thing is Eriksson actually started with the "'pick a formation and pick the best players available for each position"' then totally fucked it up when he wanted to play Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard  all central midfielders and ended up playing Gerrard wide on the right. Oh and Cole wide left.
To be fair to Sven he had so many options in midfield it was a difficult choice, plus he was very rigid preferring a 442 which didn't give much movement but sticking Scholes or Gerrard wide wasn't the best option.  If he had played a diamond or even three at the back it would have helped as Ashley Cole would have made a good wing back but then you still had to choose between Scholes, Lampard, Gerrard, Beckham, Joe Cole and even Carrick who rarely got a look in.

Southgate was hailed by some because he tried to play the passing game, albeit a defensive passing game, because apparently the English football hustle and bustle style didn't work.  They said the same thing about England when they didn't qualify for the 1974 and 1978  World Cups but yet English Clubs won The European Cup every year from 1976–77 through to 1981–82 with Liverpool winning it three times and again in 83/84, Forest twice and Villa once.  So how could English Clubs dominate European football at the same time that the national team weren't qualifying?!

Like said below pick a formation and pick the best players available for each position and play them in their natural position.  If your three best players are Number 10's,,,, er sorry attacking midfielders and you only have two spots then one will have to sit on the bench.  Not difficult is it.

International football is the simplest of them all. It should be the best 11 English players available playing in their best positions. For expample, playing a left back at left back would make sense, even if they left back plays for Palace or Ipswich.

The manager should be the best English manager possible. Eddie Howe is the best English manager at the moment, so he should be approached. If he says no, then it’ll be the second best English manager - Potter or Dyche, if they say no, then third best etc etc it’s not hard is it.
Well, it's hard not to argue with that. Spain's win in the Euro's was simple football personified:

CB's that can defend - Tick
FB's that can defend and attack - Tick
DM that can tackle and play football - Tick
AM that can play football - Tick
Two good wingers - Tick
Target man up front - Tick

Seriously, when you look at it, that is the basic nuts and bolts of it and that's what Spain have and they played to each of their players strengths. Control and dominate the ball in the middle (Rodri), give it to your creative player (Olmo), get it wide (Williams and Minah) and have someone to aim crosses / cut backs at (Morata).

De La Fuente didn't play Rodri as a sweeper or move Carvajal and Cucarella to play central. He didn't drop Olmo deep to play with Rodri. He didn't play Minah or Williams as a 10. It's just basically, where do you play and what do you do well? Ok, this is where you are playing.

Obviously then, there is a tactical element as the game progresses and making subs to suit game management. But ultimately its a simple game. Play your best players in their best positions and go and win.

The FA criteria for employing a football manager for the England football team have nothing to do with football knowledge or ability.

Can you say "Yes"?

""Yes".

Right, you're in. 5 year contract, 50,000,000 pounds whatever. You're the right man for the job.

pragmatic cսnt suppression is the way gorward
I don't think many of the current crop are that cunty.  Walker is about as bad as it gets, and that's only because all his baby mothers are spitting out kids left, right and centre at the moment.

Discounting Grealish, the majority of players are very beige.

Lee Carsley the manager is, perhaps unsurprisingly, as dull and uninspiring as Lee Carsely the footballer was.

Far too sensible that, Deano.  That's not how the FA works.

We played the best team to win the 1966 world cup.  God knows why they suddenly think they have to reinvent the wheel.

His U21 Championship win was a bit of a fluke.

Spain battered us in the final.  There's very little in the way he plays, compared to WAISTCOAT.
