WHUFC Spurs Away | Predictions and lineup

Post stubbo-admin »

Big game, and not just because it's Spurs. They've got a style that could tear us to bits, but we've got players that can hurt them in behind.

Important game for Lopetegui, as the outcome carries more weight than the fixture itself represents. Get thumped and the knives will get sharpened. Shithouse a win, and he'll have plenty of breathing room.

Prediction: 2-2

My Lineup:

Areola

Mavropanos
Todibo
Kilman
Wan Bissaka

Soucek
Alvarez
Soler

Kudus
Bowen (c)
Summerville

Think we need stronger defensive full backs this game with the Spurs wide threat, and pace in beyond. With Paqueta way off the pace and him and Antonio globetrotting, would start with our greatest counter attack threats up top.

Can't see Spurs not having 60% of the ball. Think we need Alvarez's greater thrength and tenacity over Rodriguez calmness in this game. Can't leave Soucek out, and Soler needs to keep us calm on the ball.

Surely as one of our longest serving current first team squad, Soucek will have a better understanding of the importance of this match than any of the newbies.

Not saying he should start, but I do feel that he should at least be in the squad to help emphasise to the other players what a London derby means.

Fornals would be absolutely gunning for this if he was still with us.

Usually I agree with you, Stubbo, but that team you’ve put out is not only absolute rubbish but also no way would Lopetegui ever use players as talented as ours in this weird way.

Also I think H&P is full of shit with everything he posts, but he’s right on this one. Obviously still a massive cսnt, though.

Soucek has been much improved. He scored the important goal at Brentford and worked hard in the last game. All this is true but to suggest he starts as our best player is absurd. I don't believe he should even be starting in a derby of this nature because we need ball control and technique to plug that hole in midfield and for all his height and running, Soucek is simply not PL standard in this department.

First goal is super important. They’ll be a bit fragile from the Brighton game, but if they go 1 up it changes everything.

assuming we’ll be unchanged from Ipswich.
hopefully Antonio is on his game.

I'm hoping Noble has a word in the squad's collective shell-like before this game.

Spurs will certainly be up for it (and the media will be 100% behind them), but I think we can sneak 1-2 (Away win) out of this.

Not at all.  He's been our best player the last few games, including cycling the ball simply in possession from a deeper starting point.  Reckon he's earnt his place in the side, regardless of who 'on paper' is the better player.

It's strange having all these options after seeing the same side all last season.

Not opposed to playing Mav at RB gain, but suspect Emerson will start.

Alvarez - Still not convinced about this bloke, but yea he gets the nod over Rodriguez.

Paqueta - I'd still keep him in, just, but doesn't really deserve to keep his place.

Summerville - Keep him on the bench and bring him on later.

Antonio - Of course he starts, and can't really believe some wouldn't.

As for the score - fucked if I know, but they are favourites.

I’ll leave the lineup for Lopetegui to decide on.

As for the result, really can’t see anything other than a Spurs win.

Hope I’m wrong.

Good call on Mavropanos in that position, Stubbo. I thought he did quite well there last time.

Would do well to start this with Paqueta on the bench. Not sure I would start Summerville for this one though. I see it is a proper test for them so don't have a prediction, just hope they build on that Ipswich game and we see some sort of coherence to their game.
