Areola Areola or Fab?

Post claret on my shirt »

I thought Areola was shit again today, beaten at his near post again today, 2nd goal he's dived before they even shot, stand up and he saves it, 3rd not great either. His kicking is dreadful as well. Last week he was beaten badly at the near post again. Get fab back in goal.

Areola is the better goalkeeper but his distribution was never much good and seems to have become even worse recently. The quick fix isn’t to change the goalkeeper, it’s to change what we do at goal kicks. Just do something else and get him on intensive training to address this major weakness.

I think a career-prime Gordon Banks would struggle with us at the moment.

The problem isn't the individual players - it's what and how they are being asked to do.

Imagine doing a half-time dressing room talk as head coach and telling a keeper he needs to get his mentality right. What could possibly go wrong?

Neither.  One too old and one not up to it.  Wes not of the calibre to be given a a run, a key position that should have been strengthened but overlooked in favour of other less vital areas.  Despite the big spend squad is still unbalanced and short in key positions as it has for donkeys.

I'm not happy with the pair of them both struggle with finding players in a claret and blue shirt.
Time to get a proper keeper that is good with his feet as well as his hands.

Its not Roberto level tbf its mostly that he cannot use his feet. But neither can Fab.

But seeing as we cannot win it and keep it in central midfield anyway, it means it highlights how poor he is kicking it out over any distance when we need to keep it and it just goes back to them. With a team like Spurs who press and counter high it can lead to us being exposed and stretched. Led to one goal as did Paqueta’s weak loss of the ball in midfield.

We cannot build from the back without better movement and speed in the centre and thus rely on a hoof from Areola which is not his strength. But Fabs even worse at it.

needs fixing but behind centre mid for me

Areola looks totally shot. It’s turning into another Pellegrini goalkeeper season, I fear.

I getting really pissed off with Areola this season. I said to my lad in the first half that Areola was playing like he was pissed as his kicking and distribution were dreadful. Every time he got the ball he returned possession to the opposition.

I'd get Fabianski back in. He generally never let us down and 39 is not particularly old for a goalkeeper.

Neither of them are good enough or capable of playing out from the back keepers.
