Some of you might see a parallel with current events, enjoy. The announcements in the French national newspaper Le Moniteur sum up the recent situation perfectly:
  • March 10:      The Corsican ogre has landed at Cape Juan.
  • March 11:      The tiger is in Gap. Troops are on their way and will stop him. He will end his miserable adventure as a homeless refugee in the mountains.
  • March 12:      The monster succeeded in proceeding to Grenoble.
  • March 13:      The tyrant is now in Lyon. Horror has caught the people.
  • March 18:      The usurper is some days march distant from Paris.
  • March 19:      Bonaparte approaches in a hurry, but he will not succeed in advancing to Paris.
  • March 20:      Napoleon will be in Paris tomorrow.
  • March 21:      Emperor Napoleon is in Fontainebleau
  • March 22:      Yesterday evening His Majesty celebrated his arrival in Paris. The jubilation cannot be described.

Probably a better comparison for Trump would be Cincinnatus, returning from the plough when his country needed him.

Thank you Pickle, the sound of a distant grosz dropping was heard in saffron walden.

The comparison was to the media, I'd never compare Trump to Napoleon, only an idiot would try to find any comparison there.

On reflection, I agree the OP hasn’t even succeeded in making a proper comparison and only makes a pedestrian observation about media sensationalism. My bad.

Pickle, mate.  If you can't parse the meaning of the OP, do the barest research and read the third post where it is explicitly explain.

I think it was actually a more apt call out of Biden and his press secretary than the press generally, who are really still saying what they were saying, just with more attempts to avoid self-reflection.

I appreciate Biden and Jean-Pierre's congratulation and attempt find unity but is completely different political message than the "a threat to democracy" from not that long ago, even when he was not the candidate.

It neuters such strong language.  Which is an actual problem for me.

There's a pattern Mr A

Political thread gets opened.
Some real sense of at least articulate non sneering, non angry ranting is seen. along with some debates.
Sneering starts
Anger starts
Points scoring and Score settling starts
Name calling starts
Thread becomes circular and cyclical around these negatives with only occasional chunks of decent posts.

Thread locked.

Yes yes Michael

I'm just wondering how all those Trump-voting Palestinians in Pennsylvania and Trump-voting closet cock-smokers in Iowa are celebrating today.

Are you having an extra biscuit with your tea?

The muslim, black, Latino, as well as women and 18-29 demographics really did come out to vote for Trump in big numbers. Because he's such a vile, disgusting, racist misogynist that no one can be seen to ever vote for him..

Can’t you celebrate your real victory?

I mean, if your kid’s in a US school and he’s not white, obviously heterosexual and you are somehow foreign, the teacher is not going to embarrass you by being on your side any more. All the kid has to do is punch first and show who’s the boss around here, right?

Altogether yippie MAGA!
