What west Ham players were perhaps not good enough but always played and were always popular through sheer graft.

And do these players always end up with an ironic song!?
Christian Dailly the first like this I remember, although perhaps my memory fails me and he actually was good all along!

Fuck me, this thread would have had over 200 replies in the golden years, since the profile of player in said topic probably accounts for about 80% of the players who have ever wore the colours, lol.

Pretty sure david speedie wasn't popular.
"David speedie is a wanker" was sung very loudly at him when he played for us (especially after his miss v Bristol rovers)

Peter Butler; David Speedie; Iain Dowie

I’m either getting old, or everyone pre-1990 was considered decent, and the majority since then have been disappointing. I've seen everyone mentioned on this thread i think.Having spent a lifetime watching West Ham, awash with players who weren’t quite good enough for where we wanted to be, I've got my own list of great grafters. These are players who maybe symbolised where we were but, maybe, could have been upgraded at some point:
Noble
Daly
Dowie
Lomas
Lazaridis
I'm sure there are loads more.

Steve Jones. That first goal at Tottenham in the 4-1 win should have give him a year pass. I'm sure he would have done better than put the ball in his own net like Dowie.

Good enough to win a Cup though in a very defensive set-up (amongst the top 7 finishes).
*Of course I was gonna have a good chomp on that one

The way Fornals was treated at West Ham verges on the criminally insane.
One of our few modern day players who "got" West Ham and would run through walls for the badge.
Played in his best position, he would easily be classed as adequately "Good Enough", by both fans and fellow team mates.

Kevin Keen doesn't belong in that category.
