I laughed quite hard at this.

If you ever wonder why he's a darling of the media and above criticism...

Nations League is for shit. The only reason it has "meaning" is due to injecting arbitrary incentives for world cup qualification which already had a qualification system that did not really need fixing. If there were too many boring friendlies, the solution should be to get rid of those friendlies, not pretend some shameless money-grab has meaning. We're about 5 years from the world cup moving to every 2 or 3 years so buckle up for oversaturation .
A good, insightful post, don't see too many of these on here these days. These painful intl breaks are making people resent their national sides, utter fucking garbage. Wasn't it Wenger who wanted a world cup every two years? I was reading for the 26/27 season they are rolling the Sept/Oct intl breaks into one, assume that will be over two weekends.

That statue looks nothing like Kane. The ears are too small, the chin is too square, the cheekbones are too high and the nose is completely wrong. The only thing remotely like Kane is the Cro-Magnon forehead.

International games are - and have been for some time - at the top of a political and administrative, not a footballing skills & quality pyramid.

To be quite honest, it's a structure that is fundamentally Victorian and really has no place in the modern game. Try taking that away from the suits & parasites though.

The elite - those for whom, decades ago, before the jet-age, probably -playing for your country was the supreme accolade, now want to play against their peers on a weekly basis rather than 2 or 3 times a year, and so gravitate to the world's top 4 or 5 national leagues to achieve their ambition; a path made that much easier by the media revenue those national leagues generate.

This has nothing to do with whether or not you have pride in your country (of birth/ancestry) and everything to do with personal ambition.

If the authorities really want to see how important playing for one's country is in the 21st century, all they have to do is introduce a rule that forbids anyone playing in a foreign league from ever again representing their home nation.

I disagree to a certain extent, club pays your wages which keep the lights on at home; the amount players are paid now you can understand why they don't want to get injured or, in a worst case, suffer a career ending injury whilst on international duty.
I think it's the other way around, I'm surprised clubs allow it these days, How many other businesses allow their multi million pound assets to be lent out for no return to themselves at fairly high risk?

I know they introduced the Nations League to have more meaningful games than a load of pointless friendlies but it's over complicated and find I have as little interest in it as said friendlies. Bring back the British Home Championship.

I’ll be honest. I really don’t care about internationals unless it’s an actual tournament. The FA’s around the world are desperate for money and FIFA are desperate for the cash the domestic game generates. And they use the “tools” generated by the domestic game (i.e. “the players”) to make money for themselves in the international arena.

it’s a joke. I get the idea that more games will make teams better etc. but if players don’t want to play and aren’t turning up anyway or squads are “experimental”, are you really creating a cohesive football team?

Did England really play much differently from one tournament to another even though they tried out tons of different players. not really!

I actually prefer the randomness of just picking the best players for proper qualifiers and tournaments and working it out there and then. There’s something more exciting in seeing the best players that rarely get together, have a go at beating other countries who also rarely get together.

I just find the international breaks really really boring and do nothing for our national team. Rather have domestic football where everyone cares about every game. That’s proper elite sport. Not this stuff.

Then get rid of the club World Cup, super cups and stupid mid and pre season tournaments the other side of the world.

Won’t happen though.
Doesn't really matter if the games are "competitive" or not. There's simply too many games. The number of games needs to be reduces and the media taught to suck lemons.

I don't think it is as it over saturates the Football calendar. Take it all away and just keep the occasional Friendly. We never seemed to bang on as much as we do now since the advent of a totally pointless Tournament no cսnt genuinely cares about. Bin it off tomorrow.

Really don't see the point of a nations league when theres no tournament at the end of the season

They moan about too many games, well this can be some of the games that can get binned. Utterly pointless.

These internationals seem to me to be the result of the authorities putting the demands of the media (well) over and above the health & well-being of the players.

Almost nailed-on the suits attempts to address the situation will be to increase squad sizes rather (anything but) reduce the number of games played by teams in any given period.

If there HAVE to be international breaks, then ALL national football games should be suspended for however long the break lasts, even if the majority of teams don't contribute to any international squad.

It's nuts.
Two- weeks allocated for this shite.
mental thing is England play in Greece on Thursday and the paddies on the  Sunday.

Much prefer how it used to be .
If you got called up for your nation, it was announced on the Saturday, the game was on a Wednesday back at your club on the Friday.

but those were the days when players actually regarded it as an honour to represent their country.
