Farmers don’t want to pay tax
Will be descending on London today to protest about maybe having to pay inheritance tax.
Who do they think they are? THE ROYAL FAMILY!
The threshold for a married couple could be £3m before they pay a penny

The fact that not everybody can buy a farm to do so does not mean that nobody should be able to buy a farm to do so.
If it's legal, but YOU don't like it, either get the law changed or go and have a sulk in the corner.Erm, the law has been changed. It's Jeremy having a sulk, not me.
Wasn't aware that the budget proposal had been ratified and passed into law - not that I really care as it has no immediate impact on me either way.
UK farming is not broke(n) so trying to "fix" it will only make things worse.
Farmers will simply alter the crops they grow (maybe we'll get prairies of rape across the country (which the woke brigade will soon demand is ploughed back into the ground as it puts a cheery yellow aspect on that particular, similarly named, crime)). What use it has will be anybody's guess.
Farms are already squeezed to the pips by whom they supply so you can buy "affordable" stuff at your favourite emporium.
They will need to start factoring in putting money aside to cover these new surprise taxes. Guess where that money will come from.
Arable land is expensive because stupid fuckers want to build on it rather than use it for food supply. Plenty of non-arable land that can be built on, but that requires investment in infrastructure that nobody wants to pay for - and, being 22 million pound in debt, the government simply can't afford to.
Suitable building plots are so expensive because successive governments have suppressed housing supply in order to prevent a decline in the value of existing housing stock. They're on a win-win with that one as more and more property price rises bring estates into the inheritance tax bracket - another reason why things are fucked.
If anything, this proposal will only make things worse for the whole nation.

No he isn’t. He said he could put his liquid assets into trust for 7 years and all he needs to do is stay alive for that time, he was there on behalf of other farmers who are asset-rich but financially just getting by.

Re: Farmers don’t want to pay tax
So my neighbour, who, as I mentioned earlier, is a very shrewd businessman, can be described as a modern gentleman farmer. I once asked him why he didn't diversify into marijuana as a cash crop and he answered (without so much as a pause) that the good things in life are for the wise while the fools of the world must stay at home and drink milk. So the main problem he is facing, together with the rest of the arable sector here, is a serious labour shortage. He has sold off the land he can't work rather than hire the workers available at the rates he's ready to pay - he clearly doesn't trust Ukrainians and Belorussians with his animals and machinery.
Our house is built on land that once belonged to him and he has gone into development himself. He's built a row of houses on the edge of a field he still works, some of which are clearly designed as commercial space. The other day we were chatting and he said, again pretty deadpan, that he'd been talking to his wife about turning one into a brothel and the other next door into a church. Said he thinks there's a market but his wife won't have it....
Incidentally, it's been estimated that were it not for access to Ukrainian labour since the war, Poland would be at least half a percent of GDP growth worse off right now. The jobs to be had are mostly in farming and development...

Re: Farmers don’t want to pay tax
I don't particularly want to pay for anything. I blame my parents for that for bringing me up in an environment where - for me, in my formative years - everything was provided for free.
I fully accept the need to pay taxes though, to help build the society in which I want to live safely (and comfortably). That tends not to include specialist and exclusive agenda driven stuff, but I've no objection to those that want these things paying for them.
If I want to reduce the burden on society by, say, sending my kids, at my own additional expense, to a private/non-state funded school, then that should be applauded/encouraged. If I want to pay extra to specifically have a village policeman and station for him, that, too, helps relieve the state's financial burden (but doesn't buy me a position above the law).

War mongers looking to escalate, that’s what it is.
Let’s all hope that Putin is not as unhinged as Pickle has been saying all these years. Because if he is we are on the cusp of some serious brinkmanship with Nukes as a possible outcome.

All of a sudden, standing up to Putin is exactly what you are doing.

Oh a change in posture from Pickle now that Trump will be in charge. All of a sudden Putin is no longer the big bad wolf.

Venture capitalists are exactly one of the groups that will buy the farms if you make them more difficult to pass on to family. So the tax will very much help them.
The price of a jacket may be expensive but they pale in comparison to what it actually takes to feed you (- some of these pieces are over 500,000 GBP alone)
Tractors
Combines
Balers
Hay rakes/hay tedders
Planters
Air Seed Carts
Sprayers
Seeders
Disc sleds
etc
etc.

Re: Farmers don’t want to pay tax
I disagree with all inheritance tax.
if I work hard all my life and want to leave money to the kids, that’s my business. I’ve already paid tax on absolutely everything. Why should the state get their grubby little hands on more of my hard earned money.

Re: Farmers don’t want to pay tax
Jeremy Clarkson is a Grade A cսnt.
He gets the hump with the reporter from the BBC for reminding him that in an interview with one of the Sunday supplements in 2021 he admitted buying his famous farm to avoid paying tax.
"Oh that's just typical of the BBC isn't it" he says
Now whatever anybody thinks of the Beeb is neither here nor there but the fact is this...
Didn't the BBC give him a platform to be famous thus feeding and clothing him and his family for 30 years, send his kids to public school and pay for his nice big house in the city and probably various other residences? I'm sure that actually happened or did I imagine it?
No credibility whatsoever - he can fuck right off.

Re: Farmers don’t want to pay tax
Yeah. No suggestion of them cutting the number of MPs or Civil Servants and selling off government assets to raise money.
Houses of Parliament will make a great base for a historical theme park; so close to London., too!
The MPs can all fuck off to a new town or Garden City - or even Milton Keynes - where they expect everyone else to live (except them, their families and their best mates).

Re: Farmers don’t want to pay tax
Big , bloated Government demanding more taxation. Sounds like a good idea. If your a leftist fuckwit. Too bad none of it will go to the pensioners or British veterans. We all know where it will go.
