Farmers don’t want to pay tax

Post Fauxstralian »

Will be descending on London today to protest about maybe having to pay inheritance tax.
Who do they think they are? THE ROYAL FAMILY!

The threshold for a married couple could be £3m before they pay a penny

So, somewhere like Rome, Madrid, Lisbon Athens, maybe. Populous enough to make the West sit up and think, but not important enough, when push comes to shove, to trigger an immediate NATO nuclear response.
Each and every one of those cities belong to a NATO member.
Article 5 (collective defence) dictates that an attack on ANY NATO member is an attack on ALL NATO members.
Do you honestly think that should Vlad decide to have a pop at a NATO member, that no response will be forthcoming?
An attack on an American, British or French city would almost certainly trigger an instant response. Anywhere else in NATO and those 3 nations will want a debate/conference first to decide on the appropriate response.

Vexed, you seem to have either overlooked or deliberately ignored what happened at the recent GE. Blaming the Labour voters misses the point seeing as they were returned to power with fewer overall votes compared to the previous GE in 2019.

The reality is that the Tory vote collapsed such that the LibDems and the Reform party supporters made this present Government the most electorally unrepresentative for decades.

This country needs to sort out its Westminster system of democracy such that whoever gains power represents the majority view of the overall electorate.

Nearly 40% of the electorate did not bother to vote in the recent GE so perhaps it would be better to turn your ire onto them rather than the people who exercised their right,

I haven't overlooked anything, what you're talking  about is an entirely separate issue. It's also to be expected when the choices are a pile of shit vs a bucket of diarrhea. Why bother? I get it.

Well. The Frogs may have something to say about it. Being the only nuclear power in the EU. I would imagine they would have to respond in similar fashion.?

What’s your view on farmers and how they are taxed, Leonard?

I’m ever so interested in finding out what you have to say.

So every single farmer in the UK voted to leave the EU and cut off their guaranteed subsidies, this being their well deserved come-uppance?

Ri-i-i-i-i-i-i-ght.

You may have to talk me through the logic of that one.

The solution to this is to make working farms that are handed down the generations and not sold off and continued to be used for farming, exempt from Inheritance Tax. Any inherited farm land sold off, is subject to Inheritance Tax. That will stop people buying agricultural land as a vehicle for avoiding Inheritance Tax, knowing the charge will hit, when the land is sold.

Same principle should apply to any "family owned," business that is inherited, as it does currently. This relief is being cut in half, following the recent budget.

Erm, the law has been changed. It's Jeremy having a sulk, not me.

Farmers will simply alter the crops they grow (maybe we'll get prairies of rape across the country (which the woke brigade will soon demand is ploughed back into the ground as it puts a cheery yellow aspect on that particular, similarly named, crime)). What use it has will be anybody's guess
... and overactive, paranoid, imagination meltdown complete. You probably need a lie down in a quiet, dark room, after that.😂
Do you seriously not understand?

This government are tinkering around the edges of the issue, driven by public perception, rather than addressing the fundamental root cause(s) of the problems in the UK - the main one being that there are too many people (already) in the UK chasing too few resources.

What UK resources?

Pick any you like and it won't be remotely matched to current demand.

The signs are everywhere and (cool/smart/intelligent/educated/all of the above) people still refuse to even acknowledge them, let alone try to read and understand them.

I'd buy farmland if it reduced my tax bill - surely everyone would like lower tax bills.

The fact that not everybody can buy a farm to do so does not mean that nobody should be able to buy a farm to do so.

If it's legal, but YOU don't like it,  either get the law changed or go and have a sulk in the corner.
