RD seems to be working again (well I can watch American TV series on The Promise which I couldnt on Thursday).

The Fen developer came up with a (possibly temporary) fix that all the other addon developers are now using. So yes RD is back for now at least.

Cinema HD was still allowing RD streams but Kodi has completely dried up

Never used RD. Still enough choice through scraper addons like Scrubs. Or Alternatively CinemaHD and BeeTV apps.

RD seems to have stopped. I am watching US TV through The Promise/RD. Just comes back with No streams available. 

Are there any suggestions for an alternative to RD ?

For sports there will always be some streams. 

Actually to add to that be casreful which vpn you chose. I had a previous one on which I got a very nasty warning message ref copyrights etc. I use Nord VPN now and never had an issue.

No, it won't affect football streams. It will severely affect movies & TV series streaming.
Unless, of course Real-Debrid move their operation from France to a safe haven.
