Lopetegui (sacked 8.1.2025)

Post maverick180 »

I was thoroughly looking forward to the start of this season

Was also prepared that things might take some time and wasn't expecting miracles over night What I didn't expect was a manager who after spending 6 weeks with the total dross he'd been left by Moyes would deem them fit to start in a premier league game And low and behold all of them played absolute shit

We're now 1 game in and none of our new players are any closer to bedding in or learning anything from their new team mates cos they barely spent a second on the pitch, half of them not at all I think it's gonna take somewhere between 6-10 games before we see the team anyone with an ounce of sense would play cos this bloke can't identify shit when he see's it I thought we was handed a miracle at half time when we went in level and low and behold he changed nothing I'm sure people are gonna make excuses for him and say it's too early to judge

But from what I've just seen today, this cսnt is David Moyes in a mission impossible mask

I can't believe some of our supporters actually rate 'loser Lop'. After the lucky win at Newcastle (lucky because Newcastle wasted some guilt-edge chances at 0-0 and 0-1) some thought this clown was some kind of guru who was 'getting his message across' to the players. Absolute guff.

Normal service was resumed last evening. A complete lack of desire in the first half, a complete lack of effort and a complete lack of closing down a technically superior opposition team. What kind of tactic is it to just allow them to knock it about with absolutely no closing down or press? A disgraceful tactical set up.

Unfortunately the Newcastle result keeps this loser in a job for a few more weeks, so we will have to endure more of the following:

West Ham 1-3 Man City
West Ham 0-3 Chelsea
Tottenham 4-1 West Ham
West Ham 2-5 Arsenal

We are not even getting close to competing against these teams, despite West Ham being 7th in the league since Guardiola took over at Man City at the start of the 2016-2017 season. Pathetic.

If this cսnt isn't gone pretty fucking quickly it's time to take things into our own hands and start marching to get both Flopetegui and Sullivan out of the club. Where the fuck are Hammers United? Fucking shoe gazing as usual? Danger wanking over their 20k social media followers? Fucking turn the heat up on Sullivan you cunts.

Lopetegui out and a proper top quality replacement reflecting a club with one of the highest average gates in World football. No more cheap out of work no mark has been or never will be wankers. OR WE FUCKING MARCH.

I'm not sure about that, think most were over the moon cause we weren't expecting anything from those two games. Most would have gladly taken 3 points with just a one goal deficit. Yesterday first 35 minutes was unacceptable no doubt. Was a cսnt of a game to follow the Newcastle one. He needs to get some decent results starting with a win Tuesday though the cսnt

Exactly.

One half decent performance and people seem to be accepting of being 4-0 down in 30min. The attitude of “oh well they’re a good team” makes me sick.

It was pathetic and takes us back to square one.

A manager who hasn't got the balls to axe primadonna Paqueta and not being able to get himself a forward during the summer is not worth backing.

He’s obviously not getting sacked today.

BUT I don’t care who is the manager, you can’t concede 5 goals in half a game. Today was miles from what I expect from any West Ham team.

My patience has run as thin as many but for context, we've won three drawn one and lost two of our last six, the two we lost were away to two top six sides.

I'm not expecting much today but hope we put in as much effort as we did on Monday ⚒️

To his credit you could see in the Newcastle game how much passion he has, credit where its due, think plenty saw it and saw it as genuine, let's hope the fella delivers, imagine a Pellegrini doing anything like that???? would he fuck, just be sat on his arse almost indifferent, or BFS going red faced and chewing gum 😆 or a Moyes, arms folded and looking bad tempered 😠

Cost him his place down on the pitch for the Arsenal game and will have to sit this one out in the stands, but reckon he won over a few fans for it, we just need to kick on now and he will get plenty of support.

Lest be honest though, still a big "If" that he will deliver............
Loppy and the players showed up and did us all proud at nucassel.

Early days, or late off the mark either way Arsenal at home is never easy but let's hope this is just the start of a roll and run of results.

Lopi has been given a stay of execution at this point, that's it, we beat a decent side and on their turf, but he needs more like this, points on the board and to be climbing the ladder.

Still a long way to go, and how many times have we thought we have turned the corner this season, only to be delt a swift kick to the bollocks????

I'm not sure why Lopetegui's absence from the touchline should be such a big deal? Whilst he was present at St James Park, it didn't exactly help us at home to City, Chelsea, Villa or away at Spurs or Anfield in the cup?
Here's hoping. I'd be more confident with him on the touchline than not.

I wonder if we might try Kudus as the false 9?  He's so strong and fast can play well with his back to goal and turn players.  Obviously it would mean playing into feet and not lumping high to his head or chest as CBs would just clatter into him.  He supposedly prefers a central position too?  Its probably just "clutching at straws" and would be a waste of time but would like to see it tried once.  Not sure he has the finishing but that didn't stop Antonio making a decent fist of things centrally for a couple of seasons.

Given how poor we've been at recruiting, I wouldn't be looking to shift out one of our better players.

Look to offload any, if not all, of the strikers.
100%

Madness to sell 1 of our best player's. I dont even think he's fighting it out for 1 position with Summerville either, as I can see him play anywhere across the front line. We have to bear in mind Paqueta could be off soon too if reports are to be believed he could be sold due to the FA investigation and may miss Leicester game because of it which means we'll need to turn to Kudus quality to pick up the reigns.

This is a Squad game more than it's ever been in the game at the top level, so see no problem with a squad big enough to cope with serious competition and rotation as and when. And that definitely includes Kudus in my thinking.

Problem with kudus is Bowen plays in his best position and is captain. If he’s trying to get to the top (Madrid, Barca etc) he needs to play where he is most effective. Bowen is captain and also wants to be in England squad so moving Bowen centrally is not ideal for his career.
I also prefer Summerville on the left if I compare him and kudus.
On performances I don’t think Summerville is droppable. I don’t think I can imagine anyone playing better than him on that left side.

If we want a solid midfield we are going to have to consider playing without a no. 9 to get all our best players on the pitch.

not sure where fullkrug or Antonio fit in as starters when kudus is back? However Antonio played really well for us so I just don’t know how this jigsaw fits together. Maybe drop soucek for an all out attacking team?

Opinions as always but I think Alvarez can be a key man. His issue is obviously discipline and decision making.  He aint quick which is part of his problem in the Premiership and even why a more distinguished player like his fellow countryman Casemiro often looks ropey at United nowadays.   But in some games he will be needed. He was outstanding in many games last season under Moyes but as we know kept getting yellows as we were struggling most weeks. Soucek is a better fit when we need to be solid defensively by keeping our shape, staying compact etc when we play the likes of Newcastle away or tomorrow against Arsenal.  They will be looking to take the game to us and us having to defend well, sitting in a lot more.  But there will be games against other teams, especially at home, where they will sit back and look to counter on us.  They will not be easy to get in behind and will defend set pieces well etc.  Alvarez has great control and strength and can run with it, created a few goals last season with a ball over the top iirc.   I remember Alonso saying he was the bloke we should build the team around after we played Leverkusen.

I could of course be proved wrong ( has happened many times :-) )  but if he can manage his emotions, get some discipline etc, there is a valuable player there.      Having said all this, our finances and the whole PSR, FFP thing may make it all a moot point.   The recent splurges in spending have been made possible largely from additional European revenues and not having that will again start to limit what we can do in transfer windows.  With no European games that means selling an asset or two for long term squad strengthening?
