It's not running 800m once though.  As with most sports there is a story there about a few 2nd's on the world stage and finally breaking through to win the gold.  Plus going the whole year unbeaten in an 800m race and all the hard work that goes into winning an Olympic Gold medal - training for any athletics endurance running event very tough.  There's allot more to it than that and I do think she should have been up there.

I don't understand how Alex Yee wasn't in the top 3 though.  The amount of training that goes in to being that good at 3 disciplines and how he fought back in the final to catch the leader and win the Gold, plus the year he's had totally dominating Triathlon and winning Gold in the World Championships too.  He's such a great talent but somehow doesn't have the same profile as the likes of the Brownlee brothers or even Keeley has already. 

My vote would have gone for Yee.


 

i agree- Alex Yee can feel really hard done by. Fantastic sportsman and I think that's four olympic medals for him now?
Tom Pidcock possibly could have been in the final 6 as well.

Keely was just very high profile. Has she done more than some of the others? Possibly not, but she was the poster girl for the Olympics and by far the most well known in the general populous from those who made the final.

Mary Earps winning last year was a joke, but no real issues with Beth Mead or Raducanu winning it in their respective years, although Raducanu sohuld probably give hers back for all she's done since...

That said she was the favourite from a long way out so the bookies know the score these days
