Although it was a sixpence that went in Christmas Pudding I think it is worth noting that traditionally it should have been a "silver sixpence" " so that would need it to be one minted before 1947. Sixpences up to 1946 had more than 50% silver after that date the base metal content was greater than the silver content.  As time went by and the silver content in pre-1947 sixpences became worth more than sixpence they disappeared from circulation (Gresham's Law - Bad money drives out good) so maybe why it doesn't happen these days - that and decimalisation I guess. But as a kid it was a Christmas tradition in my house.

I've recently uncovered a couple of 5 pound (cash) bags of sixpences, remnants of the tips from being a milk-boy in the 60s & 70s.

I've bought a Xmas pudding that gets microwaved & divvied upon Boxing Day to hand out to any of the expats who turn up that day, complete with one of the sixpences & brandy sauce or custard.

They're all old gits, most older than me, so they'll get a waft of nostalgia even if they're too proud/stubborn to mention it.

Also looking at getting someone to roast up a few kilos of chestnuts as a starter, which I must admit was a nostalgic Christmas activity for me back in the day.

Although it was a sixpence that went in Christmas Pudding I think it is worth noting that traditionally it should have been a "silver sixpence" " so that would need it to be one minted before 1947. Sixpences up to 1946 had more than 50% silver after that date the base metal content was greater than the silver content.  As time went by and the silver content in pre-1947 sixpences became worth more than sixpence they disappeared from circulation (Gresham's Law - Bad money drives out good) so maybe why it doesn't happen these days - that and decimalisation I guess. But as a kid it was a Christmas tradition in my house.
