Fury v Usyk 2

Post cup of tea »

Anyone give a shit?

I'm not paying £25 thats for sure and I am sure streams will be shit so it'll be the radio for me.

Got a feeling Fury will win inside 9 to set up a 'trilogy' decider.

I backed Fury, but he got his face boxed off for the most, barring the odd moment here and there.

Regarding the Dave Allen, Johnny Fisher fight; Allen was robbed and it's a constant theme in boxing that's a huge turnoff.
I called it as a fix about two rounds in. Allen had clearly been deemed 'the opponent'. All the commentators AND the referee treated him as such. The referee was constantly ordering breaks to protect Fisher and warning Allen over non-existent offences. The commentators were almost dumbstruck as their carefully prepared scripts were torn up in front of them. They resorted to commentating on a fight that was happening only in their imaginations. Fisher was a game as they come, but hardly landed a meaningful punch after about two rounds.

Bent as fuck.

He didn't get his face boxed off, other than 3 rounds, there was barely one or two punches landed more by Usyk on the rounds he won, there were 9 very close rounds, so you can see why people could see it another way watching the fight. Yes Usyk won. But people claiming they had him winning by a mile are just making shit up, even Usyk and his corner weren't sure

I agree and it’s clear to me that the fact there is so much money on offer gives a compelling reason to those not competitive any more at the very top of the game to have one last fight, then another and one last go.

A combination of Arab money and social media so called boxing is actually degrading boxing as a genuine competitive sport. I really think right now that heavyweight boxing in particular is in danger of becoming as authentic as show biz wrestling. Fighting in a cage is a better watch to me than some of the so called boxing match ups.

Bet there’s a Joshua Fury fight in the pipeline to entice the mugs.

Itauma looks a prospect, be interesting to see what happens when an opponent blinks away Ita’s Sunday punch and smacks him back in the face.

Moses has a granite jaw and you've not seen the best of him, or even close to it, he has unbelievably fast hands, moves like a middleweight and has knockout power in both hands.

He had the Irish heavyweight champion quit sparring him when he was 15 years old after 40 seconds. Nick Webb who was an IBO international champion at the time quit after 2 rounds when he was 16.

No one wanted to spar him and as an amateur no one wanted to fight him.

Fury looked genuinely gutted at the post fight presser, so suggests to me he used the last of his waining powers.

But I agree with Scum, the fight was hardly a classic, though I think the four point gap was a tad harsh, but no quibble with Usyk getting the result.

Regarding the Dave Allen, Johnny Fisher fight; Allen was robbed and it's a constant theme in boxing that's a huge turnoff. The last time it really hit me was when Josh Taylor got the nod over Jack Catterall. I stopped watching for over a year after that. Boxing needs to find a way of improving the judging, because you can't tell me it isn't dodgy. In fact, if I'm Dave Allen I'm throwing the mother of all tantrums until I get at least a rematch.

Johnny Fisher seems a nice well grounded young man, but as far as I know his family are all Spurs, so bollocks to them.

Dave Allen is a bit of a cսnt in real life, so wasn't to fussed he got robbed.

I said ages ago Fisher was shit and getting by on his ticket sales and a fair few told me I was wrong.

I also touted Moses as the future of the Heavyweight division 3-4 years ago. He will take some stopping now.

As much as I like Usyk, the fights are boring, they are being paid way to much money.

Financially both fighters won having each pocketed over £100M from their two fights.

I had it a draw or either boxer winning by one round, but then again I wanted fury to win so would have been biased

I thought Usyk edged it at the time but could easily have been a draw. Most of those rounds were so close there was hardly a fag paper between them.

Ben Davison, De La Hoya most people ringside all gave it to Fury and even Usyks own Team weren't sure he won it. A judge not giving Tyson a single Round for the last 7... 😂

So little atmosphere at these Saudi fights, too. That didn’t help. All the money, none of the history or tradition. You could hear a pin drop at times.

Was it just me, or did others find the whole fight a bit underwhelming?

Wasn’t too impressed with the quality. Many long periods where both fighters were too cautious - knowing the other had the ability to hurt them on the counter.

Thought Usyk did edge it. He’s a good champion.

At 36 and having lived his lifestyle, it does look like time is just beginning to catch up with Fury (who is still a good fighter). Doesn’t move quite as well as he did a few years ago. I know Usyk is a few months older, but he’s lived like a monk in comparison.

I think Usyk just edged it but not by as much as that score. I think a lot of the problem was that Fury got in a lot of body shots which don't look as spectacular or get as much reaction from the crowd.

Usyk didn't think he'd won, so I'm not sure why anyone else would.

Yep, Dave Allen's another who I feel for over yet more dodgy scoring. It ruins the Sport and has done for years.

if football can evolve then boxing certainly needs to, the judges seem to constantly let it down and don't face any accountability whatsoever

That's exactly how I saw it but to Fury. Usyk was in trouble midway, eye swelling up, recovered and went more for it but ultimately I still felt Fury won more of the fight than Usyk from just after that midway point.

Only 4 Rounds! 😂
