Taylor Swift
Can anyone tell me what this is all about? In the last 6 months there hasn’t been a day gone by without the BBC and everyone other news org posting inane news stories about Taylor Swift. I cant recall a time when a pop star has been the lead story for not a lot on such a regular basis. The girl has been around for 20yrs years but all of a sudden I’m supposed to believe she is the most important artist on earth and of all time. I can’t even name a single song. What’s it all about? Am I just old?

Re: Taylor Swift
"Pretty inoffensive generally speaking. Average voice, can't really dance, not especially attractive, so not sure I understand the fuss, but clearly she and her family have very sharp business minds. Could do without the attention seeking bollocks at sporting events but that's a function of modern celebrity as much as anything else."

Re: Taylor Swift
Makes me wonder how many tourists were refused entry to Singapore and forced to miss the concert by their petty minded immigration officers. Based on personal experience BTW.

Re: Taylor Swift
"Understand she was going to play 6 concerts in SE Asia after Australia and Singapore offered her £14m to have them all there. Nice little earner Think people have to realise with streaming and other access the music industry has changed. She ISNT Elvis or the Beatles but in those days success meant you sold physical records and toured (not Elvis as Uncle Tom was an illegal immigrant so couldnt go). Her fan base is massive in the young girls, women and gay market and obviously most of what she does bypasses your average Westhamonline music fan. Her current uplift is because of access to streaming and her 146 date tour which she also turned into a Disney concert film that has grossed $260m I must admit I hadnt heard of Raye before this week ... but they have said she has been streamed 5 billion times (FIVE BILLION). Was reading that she had an album ready a couple of years ago and Polydor refused to release it so she did it herself. Ouch"
Re: Taylor Swift
This is big league stuff. Apparently Singapore have been accused of paying the Swift organisation seven figure sums to only play in Singapore and none of the surrounding countries. Comes to something when governments are paying you massive sums of money to only play in their country!

"It does seem a bit odd. Mind you, I can't name any songs by Raye and I'm reading this morning that she has just broken the record for the most Brit awards won in any one year. And there's no real surprise seeing who the SWIFTIES are on here."

Re: Taylor Swift
"Capitol Man, that‚Äôs where the issue is. You‚Äôve obviously been convinced. Your belief that she is the modern version of the Beatles or Elvis is confusing. Both of those had world wide hits and were hugely famous from the outset. Their music and their love lives etc was the story for the tabloids and entertainment press. I‚Äôm the last year we are seeing daily stories on the BBC and similar about Taylor Swift but without actually telling us anything. She has been around for 20 years already so why is she suddenly being pushed as the biggest star of all time. Why does non tabloid media insist on making her the news of the day? How can she be so massive with so many people not being able to even name a single song? She isn‚Äôt a modern day Elvis, Beatles, Madonna, Michael Jackson or even Spice Girls or Beyonc?©. Or she just has good PR that planned a 20 year build up to this point in time?"

"I only know one of her songs, Shake it off, which is an ordinary catchy pop tune, so I really don't know why she's as big as she is. A bit like Ed Sheeran, except she doesn't look like an orangutan. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind some vaTayTay."

Re: Taylor Swift
"She the biggest star in the world right now generating billions in business selling out stadiums around the world. The looney crowd in America is a bit concerned that she will get young people to vote so have made up conspiracy theories about her. The usual fuckwits on here have gobbled those conspiracy turds down and are vomiting them over here. Music stars have been doing the same for what, 70, 80,years? She’s the 2020s version of the Beatles or Elvis."

Re: Taylor Swift
"Anyone that will rally her followers to vote against the orange imbecile is ok with me. And besides that, I would gladly smash her back doors in until her labia looked like Evander Holyfield's ear."
Re: Taylor Swift
"She paid her American tour truck drivers a $100,000 bonus Unfortunately when she tours Europe I don’t work for the company that’s doing the shows. Hatred does tho. Her 2011 tour took 70 trucks , this one is pushing 120. My first thought was where the fuck will you park 120 Lorry’s. It’s tough enough parking 30."

Re: Taylor Swift
I'm aware of one of her songs - 'Shake it off'. The Rocks' character lip synced it in a car in the TV comedy/drama 'Ballers'. Her tight-end 'beau' Travis Kelce receives more money to promote vaccines from Pfizer than he gets from playing football or all his other endorsements combined. Kelce also came to the aid of Bud light when they were suffering from their association with Dylan Mulvaney. I don't think Swift is particularly interesting or appealing as a singer. She is being promoted by the media as her endorsement of the Democrat candidate will be important in the US Presidential election. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. The media can boost whoever they want & that personality can endorse whoever they want for whatever reason.

Re: Taylor Swift
"Not in Australia for a few weeks so no. She only appeared in Melbourne and Sydney I believe but many of the people interviewed had flown in from other states and SE Asia One bloke of questionable gender identificaton reckoned he'd spent $10,000 on flights, accomodation & tickets"

Re: Taylor Swift
"I am aware of one of her songs ... Shake It off ... but obviously not aimed at my demographic Seems to be massively successful & has a fanatical following amongst young girls and gays Not sure why but obviously well managed and in the right place when someone like Madonna has aged into a grizzled old crone. Often follow the abc news from Australia and after her exploits at the Superbowl she was touring there and drawing 96,000 to the MCG with other sold out concerts in Sydney. Everyone they interviewed inside & outside the stadium had paid crazy ticket prices or flown in and spent outrageous hotel prices. And as said all were young women or girls or OBVIOUSLY gay if male I UNDERSTAND FROM TRUMP SUPPORTERS THAT ALL THE AMERICAN FOOTBALL WAS FIXED SO THAT SHE WAS AT THE SUPERBOWL AND ....errr ...EVERYONE WOULD VOTE FOR BIDEN"

"I am also old like others here haha ... I think shes a talented young folk songwriter who now plays the role of a celebrity pop star to earn a fortune , much like another songwriter Stefanie Germanotta became Lady Gaga ; and who can blame them ? ."
Re: Taylor Swift
"I just googled her name and looked at some of the news stories, OP has a point. Endless pages of bizarre and irrelevant wafflings."
