Lopetegui (sacked 8.1.2025)
I was thoroughly looking forward to the start of this season
Was also prepared that things might take some time and wasn't expecting miracles over night What I didn't expect was a manager who after spending 6 weeks with the total dross he'd been left by Moyes would deem them fit to start in a premier league game And low and behold all of them played absolute shit
We're now 1 game in and none of our new players are any closer to bedding in or learning anything from their new team mates cos they barely spent a second on the pitch, half of them not at all I think it's gonna take somewhere between 6-10 games before we see the team anyone with an ounce of sense would play cos this bloke can't identify shit when he see's it I thought we was handed a miracle at half time when we went in level and low and behold he changed nothing I'm sure people are gonna make excuses for him and say it's too early to judge
But from what I've just seen today, this cսnt is David Moyes in a mission impossible mask

And if he's happy to invest that kind of money in the squad, why's he such a tight arse when it comes to getting a decent manager and paying some compo?
Sullivan doesn't rate managers, his ego thinks he would do a better job than any manager including Fergie, Guardiola. As long as they deliver the bare minimum and keep the golden goose safe.

How many times have we had 5 put past us recently?
Fucking loads. 3 times this season, 5 times last season.
For 2 managers who pride themselves on decent enough defensive work, they've shown next to fuck all of it over the past couple of seasons.

Re: Lopetegui
For a team like us how can we have over 100 million quids worth of players sitting on the bench from the last transfer window?
and even more worryingly how can they not get in that team?
answers on a postcard addressed to a dwarf please

But I think we probably only need around 38 points to stay up in what is a very poor bottom third of the league. That’s just 15 more points: in a league with Southampton, Ipswich, Leicester, Wolves, Palace, Everton and…Man Utd!
I hope we improve massively, of course. But at this stage, my guess (purely that) would be that we’ll stumble through to 38-40 points or so. It will be shite, though.
Unless we find a couple of McAvennie & Ward style signings who shake things up and get the side going.
Yeah absolutely. Don’t think we are in danger of going down.

Purely a soundbite, nothing else. Sullivan isn’t man enough or honest enough to ever admit that he once again, appointed the wrong man.

Re: Lopetegui
Honestly, I've seen so many bad performances from West Ham over the years I'm surprised anyone can be shocked by any thing anymore. We've seen teams leagues below us beat us up, part time farmers in Europe destroy us. Under Moyes we got destroyed multiple times. Even last season Palace murdered us at their place (I was sadly sitting in the home end..). This is definitely not the worst I've ever seen us, not even near it really.
I think people are upset because we're just going nowhere. Maybe thats why it's annoying. We won't be fighting relegation, we won't be getting into Europe and we dont seem to be getting any better at playing football. We have a manager no one asked for so no believes in whatever process or project is going on because it wasn't sold to us, it was just imposed.
So it just feels like a void, an empty season.
He aint getting sacked over a loss to Liverpool, thats for sure. So the only hope is a good transfer window where if he and Tim are worth anything, they need to identify the missing players to make this team tick.
What is good about the second half of the season is that most teams will know their safe by March and tend to let their foot off the gas. This is an ideal time to pick up points for any team that gets their act together. Chelsea did that last season for example.
Maybe we can do that? I dont think that would happen with a new manager though, still need the continuity I feel.
Also, makes wonder why Moyes' last 2 seasons he barely won a game in the second half of the season. Now that was shocking!

Don’t think it will be that high
Maybe 32 or 33 will be enough to stay up
Reckon Southampton & Ipswich might struggle to get beyond 25

Re: Lopetegui
This can’t carry on
Another ludicrous team & set up and didn’t lay a glove on a Liverpool team that didn’t get out of 2nd gear
Was 5 going on 10 if they’d broken sweat
No sign of any improvement after half a season
Why on earth would you think it was suddenly going to improve in any way?

Gut feeling: he’ll now limp through the rest of this season - like a wounded dog - because Sullivan will (probably correctly) assume we’ll always have our neck just above the floodwaters.
But it means I’ve pretty much written off this season. We’ll most like lose heavily, quite regularly, to decent sides while scraping the odd win against the shite sides - and there are enough of them for us, and Lopetegui, to survive.
But I’m really not expecting much from the rest of this season. Which is poor when you consider what we’ve spent and the position we were in after letting Moyes go. We’ve made a succession of poor decisions.
The big one now will probably be whether we move on from Lopetegui in the summer.
6 of our remaining away games are against sides that finished above us last season, so unless our home form improves it’s going to be a struggle to maintain the level we are at. Well, unless there is further investment, which at this point is just chucking even more money on the fire.

Re: Lopetegui
All those moaning melts who follow the Hotspuds keep slagging off poor Postecoglu but the way he plays football aligns much more with us than those twats.
At least when it's good it would be fantastic and when it was bad it wouldn't be for the want of trying. Not like today's result and the Arsenal one. There is no point if we give up before we've even started eh?

Re: Lopetegui
The one thing I’ll add is that it’s ALL just so tepid and uninspiring following West Ham at the moment. We stick with it, of course, because we’re West Ham and it’s all about us fans as far as I’m concerned.
But there’s very fucking little to get excited about. Shite team, managed by a shite manager in a shite stadium. It’s all just fucking dull and predictable. As always, it’s the core fans who ARE West Ham.

Re: Lopetegui
I was watching goal kicks today, at times you had areola + kilman + mavro + alvarez all in the box at the same time. no pushing up, no clearing the lines, it was as bad a parking the bus, defeatist display as I've seen. it's just shocking they only scored five
Re: Lopetegui
I’ve backed Lopetegui, and hope that we start to look like a team under him. But tonight that was absolutely shocking.
Clearly put AWB at left back to mark Salah - due to his reputation of being really good in 1v1 situations. Putting Emerson in front of him, who is not a winger, was comical. Surely Sumervillle should have been starting - at the very least that would have given us much more pace down that side.
Shameful lack of commitment on show.
