I was thoroughly looking forward to the start of this season

Was also prepared that things might take some time and wasn't expecting miracles over night What I didn't expect was a manager who after spending 6 weeks with the total dross he'd been left by Moyes would deem them fit to start in a premier league game And low and behold all of them played absolute shit

We're now 1 game in and none of our new players are any closer to bedding in or learning anything from their new team mates cos they barely spent a second on the pitch, half of them not at all I think it's gonna take somewhere between 6-10 games before we see the team anyone with an ounce of sense would play cos this bloke can't identify shit when he see's it I thought we was handed a miracle at half time when we went in level and low and behold he changed nothing I'm sure people are gonna make excuses for him and say it's too early to judge

Yeah, I agree. I think I said back in October that we'll limp along this season, and pick up a result here or there against a team we should beat and he'll likely be binned off in the summer.

Here's how I see it......

We get beat comfortably by Citeh. I forecast around 4-0 (possibly more). We get beat and knocked out the cup by Villa and, again, I would suggest the score may be a bit closer but they will be comfortable on the day. Off the back of that Lope won't get sacked. Those two games will not define Sullivan's thought process around sticking or twisting. 

It's then the two games at home to Fulham and Palace as to where I see the battleground. If we get beat in those two then Sullivan surely will have absolutely no choice but to let Lope go. I think if we play well in these two games and pick up a minimum of 4 points, then that's Lope in for the season.

Any player can look bad if the tactics and role hhey have within them does not suit their strengths. 

That is a big part of what Lopetegui has done in order to meet the objectives which included increasing possession and playing on the proverbial “front foot” which kind of equates to being far more entertaining. 

The pressing idea is great ( although I notice no one really doing the all out pressing from the front other than Spuds now) and “3box 3”, with players stepping into defence or attack or out back into midfield but you have to have the right players to do it. We dont especially in midfield.  Some like Alvarez, Soucek and even Mavropanus were better suited to a more structured, static set up that Moyes only used.  And Lopetegui seems wedded to his high line, advanced/inverted backs as Moyes was to low block and counter. Both tactically inflexible

The players still play like they’ve never trained together, they still can’t pass a fucking football, they’re still unable to stamp any kind of authority, no matter who we play, there’s still no leadership on the pitch, still no decent forward. The difference for Spurs I thought was all down ti commercials. The naming rights on the stadium is a big earner? And the events they hold earn a few bob (NFL, concerts) whereas as we earn diddly squat. 

They were also regularly earning euro qualification revenues whereas we only had the 3 years.

The next level fir us would be euro qualification most years. We got there and in 2022/23 the “sliding doors” moment happened with Sullivan and Moyes not strengthening the squad and not being able to change the way we played.  Unfortunately Lopetegui is failing in the latter too. Its not easy and relies on excellent recruitment not just spending a large sum of money. Excellent recruitment requires a long term strategy, getting in a DOF and execs and coaches, at all levels to align with it and look for young players, to develop them and accept selling one or two for a huge profit to fund the multi season building process.

And finally for a long term strategy and vision you need execllent, insightful, intelligent leadership. We have David Sullivan a dinosaur, egomaniac who thinks he knows better than anyone ( narcissistic).

We will never up our revenues by £150 million a year. We have to get into Europe most seasons, and have our own stadium.  Thank you Mr Sullivan.

I would be really surprised is Spurs were the biggest supported club in Essex. Even my Spurs pals say West Ham fans are like ants. I do know loads of Spurs fans in Essex but I would take an estimate that just around my area of Essex they are outnumbered at least 8-1 by West Ham. You go along A13 from Hadleigh to Dagenham it's majority West Ham. I suppose north west Essex may be different.

Fair enough and yes the West Ham shop at lakeside seems pointless.

That said I wouldn't have thought Spurs and our revenue would have been that much different.

 

 

Spurs turnover is something like £400m when you strip out the champions league income in their last set of reports.
Ours is £270m.
