Lopetegui (sacked 8.1.2025)
I was thoroughly looking forward to the start of this season
Was also prepared that things might take some time and wasn't expecting miracles over night What I didn't expect was a manager who after spending 6 weeks with the total dross he'd been left by Moyes would deem them fit to start in a premier league game And low and behold all of them played absolute shit
We're now 1 game in and none of our new players are any closer to bedding in or learning anything from their new team mates cos they barely spent a second on the pitch, half of them not at all I think it's gonna take somewhere between 6-10 games before we see the team anyone with an ounce of sense would play cos this bloke can't identify shit when he see's it I thought we was handed a miracle at half time when we went in level and low and behold he changed nothing I'm sure people are gonna make excuses for him and say it's too early to judge
But from what I've just seen today, this cսnt is David Moyes in a mission impossible mask

“Hitler talking about inclusion and diversity” LOL
Yeah bit rich from old Arry but he’s never been the most self aware.
Returning to the timing of the Lop sacking, was it simply Sullivan being unable to admit he was wrong and take the hit to his enormous pride and ego or also about lessening the time Potter gets to work out who he might need in the Jan window? This is Sullivan after all. Duplicitous git that he is.
And Potter us another “project” type manager not a “quick fix” type. Hope fans dont expect us to be transformed this season. Stopping us leaking so many goals and conceding so many chances will be enough for most tho.

Re: Lopetegui
Potter may go tits up. But at face value he seems a good fit for us now. Has a point to prove and will instill a positive way of playing. The players will want to impress. And the players can understand him. Our squad needs fresh eyes on it. Lope was looking through fog. Hopefully Potter can pick up the pieces and sort out the mess and try and get us some respect back for this season. Then onto next season with a summer window behind him.

What the fuck is that do with anything? The point is about Redknapp talking about morals. It's a bit like Hitler talking about inclusion and diversity,

Surely Potter is more ‘pretty green’ than Tesco?
Re: Lopetegui
Potter could be Manuel as you say. We just dont know but he is an “academic” type, a thinker and seems calm and assured. Can’t remember many of them since John Lyall and Greenwood. Lyall was my personal favourite as a manager and a man.
I did a contract ( boring IT work ) at Eastern Electricity in Ipswich in 1991/2 which backs onto the Ipswich training pitch at that time and shared a car park. Met Lyall and Mick Mcgiven at the time and was so impressed with Lyall. A friendly, articulate bloke who only spoke well of West Ham as a club despite appaling treatmenf by the board.
Lets hope Potter can bring some of that class back to our club to provide a respectable veneer so we don’t have to see and smell the stench of Sullivan in the media as we have many times these last 14 years. Some of the success Lyall had in cups and if course 85/86 in the league, along with an exciting brand of football would’nt go a miss either.

Re: Lopetegui
I keep reading that Potter (or anyone) coming in has a big job working with Sullivan, yet previous managers have spoken highly of Sullivan, even after leaving. Plus he backs then in the transfer market. Without harbouring the point I do think some go well OTT on Sullivan.

Press conference scheduled today for JLOP cancelled
Potter should be in by time we leave work. Can't decide if I am delighted with the appointment or not, but glad JLOP is on his way......even if we have handled it appallingly as usual.

Re: Lopetegui
Fwiw, I made a point of listening to some of Potter's pressers towards the end of his time at Chelsea when he was under big pressure, I was impressed. He came over as confident, professional, clear and concise, I remember thinking at the time I wouldn't mind him being 'the face' of my club, and here we are.
No, I'm not getting carried away, hands up I thought Lop was an OK appointment, but I have a gut feeling that Potter could well be a good fit for us.

Re: Lopetegui
Should Potter say no, then what?
I don't see any way the current manager could continue, at this moment,he dont know if he will still have a job this time tomorrow. Fuck me, this whole shitshow couldn't be run less competently if there was a cash prize for doing so,what a fucking mess!

Lol, we wouldn't want it any other way, Alf. Imagine how boring it would be with Kretinsky in charge and not the pantomime/James Bond villain.

Re: Lopetegui
My brief for Potter -
Play Scarles & Orford more, show the youngsters that if you are good enough then age isn’t important.
Legs and pace in central midfield, someone box to box.
Play someone off Fullkrug to take advantage of his hold up play and flick ons.
Play people in their best positions and don’t be scared to drop players when they are out of form.
Sell Cresswell, Rodriguez, Cornet and JWP.

Re: Lopetegui
Whilst I’m embarrassed by how my club has handled this entire mess, it’s worth remembering that Lopetegui was happy to meet with Real Madrid while he was managing Spain, and had meetings with us while Moyes was still here.
I wouldn’t be shocked to see Steidten move on in the near future and Potters mate Dan Ashworth rock up.

Re: Lopetegui
Potter is hardly a "young English manager", he turns 50 in May.
At least the club is finally seeing sense and ditching 'loser Lop', the Spanish Grant/ Zola. This will be the FIFTH sacking of Lopetegui's managerial career following his dismissals by Porto in 2016, Spain in 2018, Real Madrid also in 2018, and Sevilla in 2022. Any club that takes him on in the future would be absolutely mental.
Back to West Ham, it will be nice to have an articulate English manager in the hot seat for the rest of the season and I feel less worried about relegation with Potter than if we retained 'loser Lop' for the rest of the season.

Re: Lopetegui
Immediate things to do in no particular order:
- Offload Rodriguez back to Spain on a freebie - free up the wages and place for a footballer.
- Look for the best available loan deal for a centre forward to replace Antonio.
- Have a think about whether he wants or needs Soler - or another loanee in midfield (he might thrive under Potter).
- Work out what to do with Mav and Kilman at the back because it's the worst partnership we've had for a decade and potential relegation material.
- ANOTHER LEFT BACK BETTER THAN AGEING CRESS.
- Play full-backs vertically. Not that STUPID inside low-block where they line up as auxiliary CBs.

Which should tell you everything about where the real problem at West Ham is.
That said, Potter must now contend with the remnants of an expensive and failed short-term experiment. If anything, he's a "project" manager, not a firefighter. So don't expect things to get much better immediately.
Potter is a decent manager and a good coach. He would not have been my choice, but once he walks through the doors he's ours and I want him to do extremely well. But he is precisely the sort of manager who needs time (perhaps more than Lopetegui), so he's a strange mid-season and emergency appointment.
He won't like the lack of legs midfield, but he won't have many options.
He won't like the lack of pace at the back, but he won't have many options.
He won't like the selection of centre-forwards, but won't have many options.
But, fuck it, we've got a young English manager (a rare breed in the Prem these days) and at the very least he'll be able to communicate effectively with his players - which was a big and genuine hurdle for Lope.Yep totally agree, as I said we are just about in the right place and we are exactly where we are suppose to be.
