Lopetegui (sacked 8.1.2025)
I was thoroughly looking forward to the start of this season
Was also prepared that things might take some time and wasn't expecting miracles over night What I didn't expect was a manager who after spending 6 weeks with the total dross he'd been left by Moyes would deem them fit to start in a premier league game And low and behold all of them played absolute shit
We're now 1 game in and none of our new players are any closer to bedding in or learning anything from their new team mates cos they barely spent a second on the pitch, half of them not at all I think it's gonna take somewhere between 6-10 games before we see the team anyone with an ounce of sense would play cos this bloke can't identify shit when he see's it I thought we was handed a miracle at half time when we went in level and low and behold he changed nothing I'm sure people are gonna make excuses for him and say it's too early to judge
But from what I've just seen today, this cսnt is David Moyes in a mission impossible mask

Re: Lopetegui
I do find it a bit mental that even when we beat a team well (Newcastle) our fans still think that the fact that they had more shots etc means we were lucky. But when a team does that to someone else it’s fine (Leicester did the same to us for example).
or when Moyes beat a team with 2 shots on target vs about 30 against. Again that’s a master class…
Please make it make sense..

best performance of the season, Newcastle away. what a clueless fucking cսntNewcastle had more possession, more shots, and more than double the amount of touches inside our box than we had in theirs.
They fizzled out second half, but they should have been leading at half time.
Take off the claret and blue specs Mr Angry.Yes, they're bringing in games decided on more possession next year. Just fuck off you football illiterate spastic
Hahaha. This so called "football illiterate spastic" rightly called out 'loser Lop' as being not up to the job before the season even started! How is that for football illiteracy?

Re: Lopetegui
The manner in which this club operates, at least on a karma basis is pretty disgusting. We shouldn’t deserve anything good the way they handle things.
However the whole world is equally as fucked up with zero morality about anything so I guess it’s par for the course. And as much as I have sympathy for a man losing his job (and to be fair, if my father was dying my job would be a very distant second in my thoughts which may explain what has gone on), he will be compensated handsomely. He never need work again which is more than most people on earth can ever hope to get.
the King is dead .. long live the King and all that.. We welcome our new leaders!

I think people want us to not concede more chances than almost any other team, and fourth most goals in tge league, especially having two new £35-45m centre halfs and a new £15m right back.
I would also apply context on the season. Nottingham Forest on 40 points. Bournemouth on 33. Fulham 30. On a comparable basis, do I think 23 points and 6 wins is poor? Yes, absolutely. Add in we have been thumped by Liverpool x2, Man City x2, Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, Leicester, and have only beaten Palace, Ipswich, Man Utd (when their manager was on last legs), Wolves, Southampton, Newcastle. Only two don’t occupy one of the bottom 5 places, and lets face it, Palace, Wolves and Southampton could have gone either way.

Most of the five draws should have been defeats too. I can only think of Leicester as a game we should have won that we didn't.

Yep, there's a a way to lose. In short it had become clear that we were only capable of being crap at the bottom, that is nowhere near good enough. Even under Moyes we had some big results against the big boys (mainly at home, admittedly, but turned over Spurs and Arsenal away) but under this fella we were beaten before we even kicked off.

True, Gank. But the big difference is that most people can see, after 20 games, that Lopetegui is simply not a fit for West Ham and is not up to the job longer-term. With the exception of his close mate Bill Bellend (more of a PR man than a journalist these days) almost no serious commentator believed Lopetegui was the right appointment for West Ham.
He's handled this terrible period with the dignity he didn't show at Wolves. And for that he deserves credit. But he wasn't up to the job. We were shipping far too many goals while using oddball tactics, playing too passively, and, by his own admission, he was struggling to communicate with his players. He was just a bad appointment.

Re: Lopetegui
There's such a long list of shit to sort out and Potter is going to have to prioritise just a few of them in January - while focusing on getting some further points on the board.
The good thing is that we "should" be safe, unless we completely collapse without Bowen. It's a poor bottom third of the league and we're three wins ahead of the relegation zone. So Potter has something, albeit small, to build on. It's not where we should have been having spent big money in the summer.
After some emergency work on the squad in January, the rest of the season needs to be spent on Potter sorting out a system and playing style that will put him in a position to hit the ground running next season (presuming he is here then). Use the rest of this shitstorm season to get us ready for something better - don't just limp through to June like a wounded animal and start all over again when everybody else will be doing the same.
This is a chance to be battle-hardened and properly ready for August after an effective write-off season due to the appalling decision to opt for Lopetegui.

Re: Lopetegui
Short term issues for Potter:
Tighten the defence. Select a steady CB pair. Drastically reduce goals conceded. Get the defenders confidence back and to playing confident and positively out from the back.
Tighten the midfield. Drastically reduce times we are played through. Get the midfielders confidence back and to playing confident and positively from defence through to attack.
In January window try and get a striker to replace Antonio and to support or play with Fullkrug. Try and get a pacy, athletic midfielder to work box to box. Try and get a younger, more athletic left back.
Get hold of Paqueta and Kudus and give them a shake or a cuddle (whatever suits) and get them two playing positive attacking football.
Long term issues for Potter:
Introduce a style and ethos that is understood and developed from youth to first team
Develop and nurture a proper pathway for youth players to first team
Get rid of aging, high paid deadwood
Bring back some class, style, passion and flair to our great club.

Yeah bit rich from old Arry but he’s never been the most self aware.
Returning to the timing of the Lop sacking, was it simply Sullivan being unable to admit he was wrong and take the hit to his enormous pride and ego or also about lessening the time Potter gets to work out who he might need in the Jan window? This is Sullivan after all. Duplicitous git that he is.
And Potter us another “project” type manager not a “quick fix” type. Hope fans dont expect us to be transformed this season. Stopping us leaking so many goals and conceding so many chances will be enough for most tho.
All the latest talk is that it was Kretinsky who blocked the sacking post Leicester and wanted to allow some extra time.

Roll up, roll up for the next installment of Sullys Circus...
Lopetegui arrived at West Ham's training ground on Wednesday and, as things stand, he is expected to take training.
It is clear the Hammers will be dispensing with Lopetegui’s services imminently, presumably after training.

Re: Lopetegui
Seriously?!
You couldn't make it up. Our club is so badly managed that I genuinely think it's all part of a comedy fly-on-the-wall documentary!
I would have liked Terzic or Carrick - probably perfect fits for us. But Potter is a decent manager and a good coach. I hope he does well. Not disappointed with him.
It should all have happened last summer, though. What an epic waste of time, money and this season the appointment of Lopetegui has been.
